How can SEO data be added to a G Suite Site to improve the site's search ranking?
These sites are intended to be super basic, so they don't really have options for adding meta data like you would with other platforms. The best you can do here is write keyword rich and well optimized content and make sure your images have their alt tags. The next step after that is to build backlinks to the site, which will have the strongest influence over your rankings.

I would just use an embedded Facebook or Disqus comment section or build the site on something like Weebly or any of the other more blog-focused site builders. That being said, I did find some recommendations for attaching comments through a Google Sheet - support.google.com/sites/thread/4245826?hl=en

Title is going to be the first H1 on the page and your description is typically going to be the following paragraph - though Google will change those if it wants to. I haven't found a way to edit them manually.
When I try and upload photos from my laptop the resolution is horrible
I haven't run into that problem before, but the first thing that comes to mind is that the image is being enlarged to fit the space on the site. That would pixelate the image. The solution is to simply find larger versions of the image in question. If that doesn't work, shoot me an email (tristonseo@gmail.com) with the images and a link to the site and I'll ask my designer to take a look and see if she has any suggestions.

how can search engine optimization be improved for a google site?
That's a good question! SEO is typically divided into two phases: on-page SEO and off-page SEO.
The goal of on-page SEO is to help Google understand the content of the site and who you're trying to reach. Basic on-page SEO would be to use your keywords in the titles, as part of the URL, using them in the body text of the site, and optimizing any images so that they all promote one cohesive message.
Off-page SEO is where we show Google that our website is more reliable or trustworthy - it has more authority - than all the other sites trying to capture traffic for that specific keyword. The main way that this is done is through backlinking - or getting another authority website to place a link back to your site. The more of these links you have, and the more authoritative they are, the higher you'll appear in the search results.
But, it's not that easy. Google's TOS state that any kind of rank manipulation could result in the website being penalized. Technically speaking, this includes on-page SEO as well. If you were to strictly follow the Google TOS, really all you could do is make a site and then sit back and wait/pray that you get links and traffic... or buy the traffic from Google. So, for off-page SEO, and for more advanced on-page SEO, it's typically best to work with an SEO consultant or agency. Every site is different and there are opportunities available that can help improve your rankings.
How do you find editing history (like who put in a picture or words)
