  • In this video I discuss a topic that I see a lot of people speculating about and that I get a lot of questions about. In this video I explain what happened with the Air Force and why I got out.
    Note I have no negativity towards the Air Force or security forces despite my song selection during the outro.

    I feel your pain. Was a MSgt at 10 years. I was on the fast track for Chief. No doubt about it. Retired as a MSgt at 22 yrs because of one mistake...12 years in the same pay grade. Why did I stay? Had a family dude. Worked my ass off! Did everything needed to get promoted and filled every blank possible...yet not! Anyway here comes 22 years and I was #1 non selectee...was a shoe in for Senior. Everyone asked me to stay and what would it take for me to stay. Fuck that. Had a Masters in hand and I told them I was outta there. I let them pay for all of my college as was my plan. Now I've been retired for 15 years got a superb job, a monthly retirement check and have been flush with $$ ever since. Don't look back my friend. I never did, and will never do so. My only regret was that I wasn't able to do it sooner.

      His mistake was that he pissed off the central promotion board for not getting promoted to Senior MSgt. After they told him he didn't have the technical and leadership experience to be a SMSgt. If you can't make Senior MSGt. what makes you think your even gonna make Chief MSgt.

      @@williammcmilliondot1392 no its possible because that one mistake could keep you from other opportunities you need to make senior. DSD's, volunteer special duties would be off the table because of markdowns and corrective actions. Any kind of paperwork a person gets alot of times dont come out of pifs if you stuck at one base. I Know that firsthand because I was at a base for 10.5 years and still had a LOC in my pif for driving with a cell phone in 2006.

      I did the same. Had a master's degree as a staff sgt at 12 years in. Told the AF, fu, I'll do what I want and they gave me a dream job in SOF, Okinawa. Stayed until I knew they were going to send me to shitsville, and retired at 23 years. Moved to Thailand, haven't worked a day since retiring at age 43, in 2005. Invest young grasshoppers! Invest!

    Bruh I got out in 2010. I was stationed in guam for 4 years, never deployed. As soon as I got out, my uncle put me on to contracting. within 6 months I landed a $120,000/yr job (yr 2 $135k, yr3 $155k) in iraq working on the flightline doing the exact same thing i did in the AF... I did that for 3 years and now im straight...I suggest everyone join the mil, get your security clearance, GO TO SCHOOL while you're in and get your degree (You make more money), then get out, get your disability money, and become a contractor.... Im 28 I OWN my $190,000 home and my 2013 bmw AMG. No payments...You'd be crazy not to do this. I worked for kbr and flour btw.

    I feel ya on the force reduction program bro... I was regarded as a super troop by my supervisors, I did volunteer stuff, took college classes, 98%-99% on my PT tests, etc...pisses me off that the worst thing that i got was an LOC for coming late at a commander's call, and for some reason people who got DUI's, failed their PT test, etc, just managed to get under the radar and was able to re-enlist... happy for you that things worked out ... I'm currently frying my brains out studying College trying to make things work out for me... ,I wish you all the best bro...

    2Kool4SkoolTV, I feel your pain. I was SP/SF and was a SSgt when I got the RIP like you. I was a squared away individual, which I can go into more if you want to talk, but I completely understand where you are coming from. I am glad you found work that lets you do what you were trained to do, wish I could say the same. But as I said, I really do understand.

    I got out of the air force in 2003 after 10 years. The pay was a big part of it, felt like I was making poverty for such an important job. I miss my bro's bigtime, other than that I didn't look back. Been working for the railroad every since, I can make more in one day that I did in almost 2 weeks which is sad. Luckly, the railroad retirement board (union retirement plan) counts my 10 years of service towards my total railroad time retirement.

    I was in Security Police from 1975 to 1996. I completely understand why you were fucked. Being a outstanding troop is a two edged sword. On one hand, your supervisor can count on you to come to work ready to go, and he doesn't have to closely supervise you because you proved to be trustworthy. But on the other hand, he probably saw you potentially leaping over him, and now your competing with him. Unfortunately, I found that as you go up in rank, the more politics comes into play. You seem like someone who could have been a very successful Cop, but was seen as a threat to some peoples careers. It sucks, but that's a fact of SP life. It doesn't matter how good you are, or how many lives you save, or how well you represent the Squadron to others, there's always someone looking to screw a good person just because they drink with the right people after work or run to the back office ratting out the people they work with, to curry favor with the Senior NCO's who control your career.

    It was meant to be! The Perfect Storm! Keep striving for improvement! Same thing happened to me when I was Active Duty! I had a perfect record and made one mistake. However, I had an in forgiven First Shirt and Commander. Subsequently, I got burned, and a year later I got out voluntarily under a Honorable Discharge. It worked out because I finished up my under graduated at the University of Oklahoma, went on to Law School in San Diego, and I' m now practicing law. If not for my mistake, I would still be serving, and who knows where I would be.

    The Air Force has always gone for force reductions when they are denied their budget request. They do this to teach the folks in congress and the Pentagon a lesson. They then institute their unwritten rules such as anyone who has received an article 15 is normally the first rule spoken by commanders in the staff meetings. The next is anyone who is not making progress regarding the weight management program. Then it is anyone who has a letter of reprimand. They stack the files on the desk and put them in varied stacks and go from there. That has been the way they have operated since the eighties {80's}.

    • @beerborn
      @beerborn 7 лет назад

      When I joined the air force in the late 70's, there was a serious weight problem with senior NCO's. It took a while for the air force to come out with the "Fat Boy Program" to start telling these fat NCO's to lose the weight or lose the rank. Then they no longer accepted GED recipients. You had to have a high school diploma to be accepted in the air force. Then you can no longer retire as an E-5 anymore. As an E-5 you had to make the rank of E-6 on your 15th year or get fuck out. So basically you retired as an E-6 or above after 20 years.

    I can ABSOLUTELY vouch for exactly what your talking about here and how the AF completely fcks people who are truly trying their hardest. We get E-5S in leadership roles that have ZERO clue what they are doing, and literally since they cannot perform their jobs correctly they CONSTANTLY try to hem people up. I am gonna say I defer from you my friend, I DO have resentments from the AF, however ide give it my ALL if I had another chance. Your situation is a sad one, I saw so many great airman get ran over by trumped up sergeants that couldn't do half the job the airman was doing. Good luck brother! Keep your chin up my man.

    This happened to me but I was just a Security Police augmentee. I was stationed at Mildenhall UK and worked in finance. I was involuntarily chosen on this exercise war time dutee. It was February and insanely cold out on the flight line. I had already done two nights in a row sitting in a fox hole in Chem gear with no radio and some kind of flight line heater blowing in my face. I had a super bad cold. I told the flight chief I didn't feel good be he didn't seem to care. It was about 3 in the morning and I was doing the ole head bob. I tried to walk around but to no avail. All of a sudden here comes the first shirt he whacked me on the side of the helmet with a stick, threw me in the back of a security truck and took me into some room like I was a criminal. When I finally got back to my regular squadron I went to see my commander. He gave me an article 15 but no severe punishment. The asshole Security police commander wanted to see me go to correctional custody, loose a stripe the whole nine yards. My commander thought that was too severe being a first term airman with no blemishes on my record. The only thing that ever did to me was prevent me from going BTZ. I will never forget when my commander told me about the assholeness of the SP commander. To this day I feel sorry for anyone that has to deal with that organization. No fault of your own. I sympathize, what was weird was about a year later I had another friend this happened to but he lost a stripe because he had previously pissed of the commander.

The books I used to pass the test are the asvab for dummies, cliffnotes asvab cram plan, and Barron's asvab book. I got all 3 at a local Barnes and Noble. DOS rollbacks make people get out earlier than their original "separation" date, and, usually catch people off-guard. Sometimes those folks are ineligible to reenlist for some reason (disciplinary, etc.). They put themselves in that category. Sometimes they just can't get a Career Job Reservation in their current career field and are also ineligible to cross-train. Those are the ones I feel for. Aside: Sleeping on duty or at a post is called "Misbehavior of a sentry". It's a crime in the military. It's not usually the only thing that can get you ousted, but it can be the capper. It's especially bad for a Security Forces trooper.

    • @tjwelch62
      @tjwelch62 9 лет назад

      Roger that. There are rules, if you cannot follow them, its not for you. This gentleman's bearing does not give one the impression of a model trooper by any means. When there are cuts, the low hanging fruit cakes get the chop first. Sorry that you had a bad experience. I did 8 and got out to make more money, it was a good experience, its what you make out of it.

Two things: we really don't know what some of the dirtbags' records look like (I used to wonder those dirtbags MUST be worse than me and they're STILL in!). The other is it does seem to be the case where they liked to be fucking harsh on those performing well with good character, and more of a shrug-off or talking-to with the DBA's. I had a BA, and I find out that it's nearly impossible to get in as an officer these days. As a result, the next option was enlisting. During my DEP, I had to move back to my home state and had to delay it. Two weeks left to BMT, but two weeks before I leave I sprain my ankle training for prep. It heals and I try again, and the day before I leave to Lackland, the doctor DQ'ed me for having eczema. I'd have to start the whole process over again, so I said "fuck it." The universe, God, Jesus, whomever you believe in, was telling me that the Air Force wasn't for me, and I truly believe that. I've heard about USAF cutting airmen....

    • @Xrpxlm7
      @Xrpxlm7 9 лет назад

      +Brian Smith I obtained email addresses of officer recruiters, and the initial contact was made, but they dont respond afterwards. My theory is so many people are trying to get in the air force as an officer that they dont have to respond. At the San Diego MEPS, the air force recruiter told me that I should try to get in as an officer since I have a BA, but he told me that its near impossible. They had 30 applicants that were eligible and worth considering, but they only chose one, and he was a harvard grad with a 4.0 gpa and graduated with a STEM degree. I was like WTF>>

    • @Xrpxlm7
      @Xrpxlm7 9 лет назад

      +Brian Smith yeah, it's ridiculous, but it's understandable because the military has great benefits and free school, etc. all these guys that don't care much about the military are joining because of it. I can't join anyway because of my eczema.

      The usaf is very short on people. A lot of people where given the opportunity to leave early and a lot of people were kicked out. So much people left that now manning is bad. There are certain AFSC that need people. Best job I recommend with good hours is personelist. This AFSC is critical.

    sleeping on guard is (as stupid as it sounds) gets you pretty bad punishment, its so serious, getting caught sleeping on guard basically ends your career right there.. the rule for getting shot while sleeping on guard is still in on paper.. obviously no one will get shot, but big punishments are to follow with dozing off on guard duty... sucks man

    I was surprised to hear about the rollback. I never thought I'd see the day that the AF would force people out of Security Forces. When I was in, they were always undermanned.

My dad was an active duty aircraft maintenance officer and after the Cold War when they were doing the force reductions back then he was let off the hook, and about a year and a half later went reserves and finally got back to work. All went well, deployed twice to Iraq and Kuwait, and he retired last year as a LtCol.

    Glad you found the positive in the wake of the QRFB. I got an Art. 15 back in Korea for underrage drinking, and I was a high speed troop just like you. I'm still in, it's fucked up how the system is, they let the good guys go and keep all the dirtbags. And it's like, damn, you want these people to be the future leaders of the Air Force? I'm not holding any grudges though, I learned from it and continuing to push forward with my career. The only thing that sucks is the UIF hindering me to cross-train into TACP.

    • @Lemurai
      @Lemurai 10 лет назад

      Haha cross train if you want.. I was a JTAC for 8 yrs. im sayin though, if you like being around a bunch of PTSD alcoholics be my guest. I hear it all the time from folks. Oh I want to join tacp or cct etc...But what is there to prove? How much you can beat up your body? How many days out of the year you can sleep in a ditch you dug yourself? Sorry for being blunt, but I just have to tell folks. You don't need to be spec ops to be an in shape marksman. I've known some very sharp sf guys who had just as much heart if not more. I was training with weapons long before the military, you don't need Uncle Sam to tell you to do it to be good at going above and beyond. Even though I'm no longer in I still train and I know those who've never been the military who can shoot just as well if not better and also in really great shape as well. I'm not saying you want to join for this reason, but for the majority I'd say if you want to be a killer, become a seal or join force recon. Other than that I'd suggest you learn advanced weapons training on your own time. Plus it helps since you'll be able do train on those weapons that the mil doesn't use on a regular basis.
      BTW try NECP it's a nurse commissioning program, it's not to hard to get into. A buddy of mine is now a nurse on a combat search and rescue team, he's just as in shape and Badass as any of the operators. Not to mention with better pay and rank and all the blood and guts you want to see.

    I'm kind of stuck between choosing security forces and administrative aptitude.. My main concern is with taking college classes. I feel like SF might not be the way to go if you don't get weekends off and have to work 12 hour shifts but administrative stuff sound boring as shit lol.. Just don't know what to do. Do you think college classes would be manageable as a SF person?

    • @Crashtian
      @Crashtian 10 лет назад +6

      Heres an exercise to help determine whether or not you will do well in security forces: Find an ant on the ground. Attempt to watch and follow the ant for a good 13 hours straight. If you find that youre nodding off and getting bored after a few hours then security forces is not for you and you would likely just wind up getting into big trouble. If at the end of the 13 hours you're like "way to go ant!!! way to goooo!!" then you were born for security forces.

    • @DiscoDashco
      @DiscoDashco 10 лет назад

      No, they wouldn't. If all you care about is having a cake schedule so you can go to school, go anything admin or finance, straight up. Don't be a maintainer or SF because you will have a lot of 12 hr days and that's not including deployments. You won't be able to got to school until you become a 5 level, after that you're golden. Most admin and finance even have "training days" on Fridays which is a clandestine way of saying internally: "well, all our work is caught up by Thursday, so let's just come in on Friday (because we still have to) and just leave early". I was a maintainer (F-15C/D) and still got to go to college though.

    • @2Kool4SkoolTV
      @2Kool4SkoolTV  10 лет назад +1

      Yes, college is manageable as SF (coming from someone who's done it). Will you be able to take a full load of classes? Most likely not. It depends if your schedule that you guys are working and it depends on if you're talking about online classes or not. If you doing online classes then yes. I was able to take 3 classes during my deployment and that was between 14 hour days, going out on missions, volunteering and working out for Raven. You have a lot more time than you think you do when you're off, it's just how you use it. If you're trying to go the brick and mortar route then it would be a little harder because you'd have to physically attend the class which could interfere with your work schedule. I've seen people do it but it's a little harder to manage.

    • @2Kool4SkoolTV
      @2Kool4SkoolTV  10 лет назад +4

      Both are capable of becoming PMC's. I would say an infantry guy with deployments may be more appealing at times depending on what you've done in your career. They like people that have time downrange and a lot of infantry guys have years downrange vs a Security Forces guy that has 6 months to a year. All depends on the position you're applying for. Of course for the really high paying jobs, their #1 picks are seals, rangers, TACP, CCT etc any one of those special guys.

    I swear man same shit happened to me. Long story short I was in Air Force ATC School. A buddy of mine and I had a drink to celebrate or upcoming graduations(I was underage at the time). So this other loser gets wasted and is confronted by our MTLS. When asked who he was with he mentioned my buddy and I. They took my bac and found I had enough for ONE beer in me. Since I had been late before they discharged me. Most of my sargents said they had done worse than me and I shouldn't have been discharged but like you said in 2013 they were chopping down the ranks. Bad thing about it till this day that DBA(dirt bag airman) is still in lmao. I felt betrayed by my country man. I was a good troop, I'm completed one of the hardest schools the AF has to offer and I was ready to serve. The bastards didn't care, if only I had your contracts I wouldn't care either lol.
