I needed this video twice. July 2023 and October 2024. Two different trucks, same blend door actuator R&Rs. The service procedures for this are vague. This second time around I just needed to review 1 minute of this video. I had forgotten the order of metal subframing and upper dash removal. Also forgot about the hidden side, middle bolts, and airbag removal. So glad I re-found this video. I’ve been looking for it for almost a week. Finally found it searching Silverado HVAC assembly removal. Thank you for doing this video x2.
The driver's side blend door quit on my 2005 sierra. I took it apart, cleaned it up with alcohol and applied a little dielectric grease. One year out and no problems.
Great video and explanation as always. During the summer I've noticed that water often drips down from underneath the passenger area, must be condensation? Always wondered if it was a leak, but haven't seen it during cooler weather.
@@wesangel9989 I guess if you have a photographic memory. Would love to see the organization of tools, parts and raw materials in your shop. No f**** given there too?
Hopefully don’t need to do this on my 2001 Suburban but if I do your careful explanation will come in handy. Question you have a large radio head on yours mine is much smaller can I use the larger head ?
Great Video! Hopefully I don't ever need to do this to my 2006 Yukon! I'd have the extra step of removing the two front seats in order to get the center console out. Did you undo the steering column and the shift linkage on the driver's side?
I just loosed the column, didn't touch the linkage since I was just moving the passenger side out. Just change your coolant regularly and hopefully your heater core doesn't leak
My vents stink like a dead mouse. Any thoughts on getting rid of that? Would I be able to get a small vac hose down the vents instead of taking this all apart? The smell comes from every vent so thinking the carcass is in the heater box itself.
So my blend door actuator for driver side failed (thank goodness because I don't want to ever do passanger side again....) but I went to replace it, well the previous owners must have also done it because the actual stud the blend door slides into was broken and replaced with a bolt.... That being said any idea how to get it to where my blend door actuator and the actual door are in the same position without having to replace the door itself and do all this work😅
I also agree. I am still running a 2002 gas winter beater, a 2006 Max dually and a 2007 Max SRW that is almost complete with a full resto. Love these trucks.
How long did it take you? I broke off a spindle thing that goes into the blend door actuator when trying to replace it. I’m not sure how to replace that spindle now. It’s the actuator on the bottom that goes directly to the heater core
Imma just take my 2004 yukonxl to a professional I do know how to remove the dash and the other stuff I’ve done it before I replaced my dash it’s cake but this is a bit to much and I don’t have time so imma take out as much as I can and put my parts in my room then drive it to the shop to make it easier for them
great video a young man with more time to spend than an older guy like mmwa so I will be in the market for a new truck by fall COULD YOU EXPLAIN HOW TO BYPASS THE HEATER CORE please???
Is that core the same for the ac ? I need it replaced Where did you get your instrument cluster for odometer and rpm? Is the screen in your truck from factory or did you install.. Great video thanks
Core is separate from AC condenser. Gauge is from a Cadillac Escalade. Here's the gauge cluster swap video ruclips.net/video/yD6NH6LLsf8/видео.htmlsi=18P68RuAfrWRkj49
@@motofunk1 No I didn't, mine looked good so I kept it. People do recommend to change them at the same time though, especially if you have a lot of mileage on the vehicle.
GM should be ashamed on this design. Dashboard should be one unit and be able to be pulled back in one piece. You have to disconnect your AC system to replace the heater core? Ridiculous. I bought a 2005 Silverado 2 months ago. Sorry I did. The Fords I had the dashboard pulled out as one unit and I replaced the heater core without dealing with the AC system. GM should be ashamed with their HVAC system.
Your 2005 Silverado is one of the longest lasting trucks on the road currently, and the whole power train is easy to work on. Did you not see how ingenious the head light design is? What do you change more often, the heater core or a head light bulb?
Very involved job . Things will definitely break . It will take alot of time , unfortunately the video makes it seem like it’s easier than it is . I’ve found that the only way to really do it is to find the best possible way to remove everything while on the process of doing so . There’s more to be removed than it seems in the video .
So you totally do not have to remove all that ! It’s like take the steering column down and remove 6bolts and two nuts and the entire dash will set around into the passenger seat in Service position then reverse the box and service the box .
what about stop leak ? my old truck has 330000 miles everthing works, and now the heater core is leaking It hurts so bad knowing how long and teadious this repair is I want to scream and break something Maybe I will just play some loud music

Helpful video thanks! This job is honestly not as bad as most make it out to be, I just did this yesterday 5 hours total.
Nice! Great job!
Great video. Answered my question if I wanted to tackle myself or pay someone else to do this. Dropping it off at the shop lol
Ya it took me a solid weekend to do the job.
How much at the shop? (If you took it in yet)

That water drip is coming from your A/C system, it's normal.

Just now seeing your video. Will be doing this this weekend. Thanks!
Hope I put enough detail in it to help you!
This is a good instructional video. Doesn't mean I will enjoy doing the work though.
I know, it's not a fun job at all. Reserve a whole weekend and take your time. You'll save a lot of money though.

2001 has a different wiring setup than 2003+ so the head units are not interchangeable.
Do you have a video showing how to replace the temperature blend door on a 2004 Silverado
Sorry no I don't.

my 2003 tahoe started leaking today. 2 weeks ago I did the radiator, last year the water pump and ac system. Wish you lived nearby, lol
But I don't want to do this job ever again lol. I want to pay someone else if it ever happened again lol
Did you leave the dash inside the vehicle? And were able to remove the core?
I left it in half way. Yes I was able to swap the core.
My vents stink like a dead mouse. Any thoughts on getting rid of that? Would I be able to get a small vac hose down the vents instead of taking this all apart? The smell comes from every vent so thinking the carcass is in the heater box itself.
You'll have to pull it apart

I wouldn't move the actuator. Can you manipulate the door with the bolt?
and thanks for a great video any idea how much it would cost?
how much would you charge ?
Shop will probably charge 2-3 days worth of time.
Will the upper ductwork come out through the top, without removing the whole dash system?
No, you have to remove everything
On the bright side, you could have a truck that doesn’t last as long as these 2000 chevys and just scrap the whole thing before you need a heater core
100% agree. I've had this thing for 15 years and it has served me very well. One of the best generation of trucks ever made.

Good video you didn't talk about dropping the steering wheel
I didn't mention there's two 15mm nuts you need to drop the column?
Why do they make them like this! Crazy!
Newer vehicles are worse
Really hoping heater core isn’t my issue 😂
Would this work for a 2000 chevy suburban?
Is you're the older body style or similar to the truck in the video?
The older body style was so much easier to do this with. Unfortunatly i Have to do this to mine soon.
Newer trucks are even worse unfortunately.

Only work with what you're comfortable with.
As a Mechanic I still ask....why the EF did they start burying the heater cores under everything.
I think it's dumb too.
I have a 2004 H2 Hummer how much would it cost?
Not sure, it would be a little bit more work because the dash is different and you have the center console that needs to be removed.
