- Highlights from Portland, Oregon's very own 2022 Adult Soapbox Derby.
Started in the summer of 1997, every year racers climb to the top of Mt Tabor to race their creations. All cars are gravity powered only, all hand built by teams. The race is entirely volunteer ran, and one of the best events in Portland!
The event is free to watch and usually attracts upwards of 10,000 people. It's about a mile long track from the top of Mt. Tabor to the finish line around reservoir 5.
Fun fact: Mt Tabor is an extinct volcano now a century old forested public park in Portland. It has beautiful open air reservoirs and amazing views of the city.

The national lampoon vacation station wagon was the best, they did a great job with authenticity and the dog leash had me laughing.

The Griswold station wagon with corpse up top, honky lips, and the leash was absolutely priceless.
The bloody-faced rabbit at the minute mark made me burst out laughing! All of them are amazing.
Nice to see something positive and fun out of Portland for a change.

That’s awesome! I love the slo-mo as they pass by. I made a video on my channel about the soapbox derby as well, but sadly you can’t see much details of the cars as it is drone footage only. I should have also done some filming on the ground.

That was my car. I came up with the name "the shart cart" and then on registration day we all drew our car numbers out of a hat and I drew #2. It was amazing. I felt like I was commanded by a higher power at that point to make a giant turd. 15 cans of expanding foam on chicken-wire later and a gallon of "Brown Velvet" paint from Home Depot and we were ready. :D

I'm not sure what you're getting at. That's my car. It was a blast. Little kids came up to it all day long and cautiously approached. One little 5 year old girl turned to her mom and said "mom, is that real poop?" It was hilarious. After the race I sold it to a guy who owns a waste management company. It's an adult soapbox derby so your assertion is inherently wrong. I'm an adult. by definition. :*
