--------
In this clip, Too Short talks about collaborating with Kelis on a song produced by the Neptunes called "Bossy." He described the events leading up to the partnership and what it meant to him in the latter part of his career before Shirley Ju informed him that he has partaken in 20-30 gold-selling records as a guest feature. To that, the Bay Area rap legend names off some of his greatest collaborations that have earned him plaques such as his work with E-40, Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, and Snoop Dogg.
As the interview moves along, Too Short talks about the way in which his friendships with East Coast rappers blossomed in wake of his first retirement back in the 90s. The Oakland native attributes the friendships that he developed with rappers like Eric Sermon, Keith Murray and Redman. Then, he tells an interesting story about how he and Keith Murray hung out for an entire day, which eventually ended with the two of them going to an infamous nightclub called in NYC called "The Tunnel." He reveals that Keith Murray had a razor blade in his mouth for the entire day until he spat it out at some point later that night. Lastly, Too Short shares the backstory for some of his favorite collaborations with East Coast rappers such as "Buy You Some" with Eric Sermon, before explaining his logic for working with a litany of unknown rappers all over the country.
Interview by: Shirley Ju
He was charging between $25,000 - 50,000 depending on who project it was. But sometimes he would only charge $7,000 - $10,000 to Artist that couldn’t afford the higher prices.
"Buy You Some" is my favorite song by Too Short. The bass that kicks in, half way through the track, is ridiculous!!. I have memories of me cruising in my civic, back in the 90's, with two 12 inch Kicker Competitions in the trunk, bumping that track, like there was no tomorrow.
Have that song on my phone..him and Erik Sermon...
👆🏼You nailed it on this one my friend… Erik Sermon (EPMD) & MC Breed… the bass never ends on this track… still have this one on my playlist til this day!
"Nobody Does It Better" is THE Too Short track for bass. You could literally blow out house windows just driving by. LOL
@@DawgcityClev
That one has tremendous bass as well… but as far as clarity + bass on a system. Buy you some was recorded 10+ years later, a lot my different things going on production wise. Now I do remember bumping that Life Is album on my 1st system and it would rock the neighborhood.
@Ivan Alexander ll 😂
All Game. This is all Short knows. Knowledge reigns supreme.
Comes with age
Come to find out, True Game Is Simply Just Keepin It Real With You & Yours! That's why Short Keeps It All Good & Stress Free!! Short Shall Always Be On Top,!!! ✌️
I've never understood why Too Short is never mentioned w/ the Legends. Too Short is a legend. Dude put out soo many albums I cant count them all
Because he is a great rapper. He is great at having content that attracts ears.....
Who don't mention Short with the legends ? Not the West Coast , or mid West or South ....
Word. You're a real one, with courage and intelligence.
Word up, baby. We're sucker free. You're a real one, with courage and intelligence.
Well, he's a legend to us in FL as well as the South no doubt! "Short Dog's in tha house ya betta listen to me!" Had a homie w/a beach cruiser and boombox and all he listened to was Too Short 24/7! Dude ain't wanna hear nobody else! Short had a lot of ppl ears!
I don't recommend local artists paying major artists for features because 90% of the time, the major artists are not going to clear the record. That means that you will not be able to monetize or make money from it. They will say that the label won't clear the record, but most of the time, its them that won't clear it. Before you agree to $20K+ for a feature, get in writing that they will have it cleared..
BINGO!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
100 great advice. Also if you want to do a video with that artist its an additional charge.
Nowadays. Major artists need the local artist now to stay hot. New artists lead the way now
a lot of times before the artist can even do the feature got to get it cleared from the label first the label can block it. the artist may do the song but if didn't clear it from the label the artist that paid for the feature is out that money so it's best to have both agreements from the label and artist you want featured at the same time then your clear. I've heard labels blocking their own artist on the same label from working together the industry is whack that way.
What is clear the record?
I love hearing him get so excited about that snare. Just shows you why this man is as successful as he is. This music is his life.
Love this Too short interview especially when he tells deep truthful stories.
Just wish Vlad did it.
Him and LL both had a nice run of platinum albums! That alone puts them in legend status! Respect to my childhood Icons!
Here before TK Kirkland tells us he takes 20% of each Too $hort feature fee
Lmaoooo Sorry bro he commented exactly 1 minute before u
🤣
Just a minute off 😂😂😂
That’s golden!!! 😂😂
You mean the fake account TK Kirkland
Short you really need a movie or biopic!!! You 1 of the few rappers who been in the rap game since the 80s and still here!!! Iam only 39 and literally grew up on your music 4real!!!! Birmingham fucks with you heavy 💪
As a father with custody of four I can say everything short spoke on is true. From the manipulation to the having to fight it’s not easy but we living in our place all cause I fight.
Hells yeah Short speaking facts. Parents and Grands, especially from the South, tell ya what you they want you to know.
He's right about the parents lying or not saying shit about certain things.
The bass-line on “buy you some” is legendary!!!
I like how it changes mid song.
I had a 85 Grand Prix with 1 15" Kicker in it on a Punch 45...steering wheel was was resonating with that bass. I miss that shit.
Back then Too $hort announced his retirement it was one of the biggest things ever and then since then I think that propelled his career even more because he just kept appearing and appearing and appearing on music on albums that it created a need to hear from him, and I'm talking back then 96-97 niccas was like rappers don't retire LOL and it gave you something to strive for...
Short carrying the interview
Yea that female sucks at interviewing
His talking to a little girl 😂😂
@@Cordy_Mac she at least lets him speak. Vlad be always mentioning a story to relate to the guest story. Vlad always be on some B's. Let the guest speak.
@@L.ATRAFFICNMADNESS vlad is doing what you call “clickbait” and asks questions people wanna hear for views . Not this Bullshit where you let a mf control the interview. That just shows how bad of a interviewer you are. Control the narrative. Lol stay woke tho bro internet niggas are dumb that’s the whole point why he said Short is carrying the interview clearly she’s 🗑 😂🤦🏾♂️
@@Cordy_Mac *He’s
It's very few rappers who can walk in any rough section in North America and get a pass with real respect and Too Short is in that small group. ✊🏽
I'll still bump Too short over most new artist....I talked my mom into buying me short dog in the house and listened to it front to back was a great album...born to mack still a fav and cocktails super classic
Just because you listen to too short over new artists dosnt mean he trending all that saying is you an old head, but there is a market for everyone lol
@@Capital_gainz I am an old head and just respect he still working at his age...I listen to sum new artist but just bcuz songs trend in this era don't mean the artist r any good most don't make a good album r have 6 platinum like short dog....
Much luv to Sir Too $hort for showing interest in me..still cant get over the experience I had with him & Jazze Pha.

Too Shorts a great inspiration.
This is the best interview ever with Two short.
It seems like that this man has so many stories when it comes to hip hop and the people that he has made music and Too Short is a legend. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.
The name of the rim shop was Peachtree Motoring. And that song Short is talking about was a classic. Greg Street used it for the intro to his show on V-103. That's when Atlanta was really lit and the place to be.
Cocktails still my favorite song from dude✊🏾
FIGHTING IN LIFE ... SOMETHING YOU FIGHTING FOR OR SOMETHING YOU FIGHTING WITH...
Word is bond. Word is bond.
Short: They don't tell us Shit
Me: Facts
Imagine growing up around Too Short. So much free game
It's People that never grew up around "Sir Too Shoat" but paid for the Album & was raised own Shoat Dog! The Host gots a very nice but freaky sexy voice, wonder what she looks like.😀
The city of Atlanta is definitely a staple in the culture! So many historical things in the culture went down in Atlanta!

"Just a week ago" with Jay Z. Classic G shit from coast to coast 😎
This feels more like a conversation than an interview. Shout out to Too Short tho he carried it. OG
That song with Eric Sermon was big in my play list at the time. You remind me of my fat gold chain!!🎶🎶
After listening to this interview I can never NOT mention Short along w the goats
The last 5 min is the realest shit ever! Why Short will always be a Legend!
Dude a genius. This is a man that deserve his flowers while he is still living.
I saw Keith Murray in jail, and all the inmates saying whats up like a star. He was walking around like it was a stroll in the park
If I ever meet bro, I'm buying him a drink and passin' a leaf. I was introduced to "Don't fight the feeling" in '88 at the ripe age of 10 years old, while helping my cousin wash my aunt's car. My ear was glued to that album.
Good Work Too Short
Yo, Too Short still doing it. I only listen to his old music but he has a couple other ones I like too.
❤my man here helped me through my childhood. Soundtrack of my life
one of the best too short interviews
Yeah but the interviewer trash
Dang. You know you on another level when you can say: "My plaque life became complicated."

"Just a week ago" is a super classic
He ain’t lying, the Tunnell was savage back in the days. Shout out to my Pana Alpha

Very engaging
Not too many people can outdo what Too Short did. That's gonna be a really tough feat for any one. Very rare guy.
Too Short is one of the Goats and he doesn’t get mentioned enough in that conversation.
@55 YEARS OLD. RESPECT OG!!!!
55 still rocking, that’s hip hop straight up!!!!
Thanks, Too Short for exampling why he did a lot of features with a lot of underground artists in the last 90's. I guess daz dillinger was doing the same
TOO SHORT.. IM STARTING AT 52,, LOVE YOU MAN.. LIFES TOO SHORT
I always loved too short...a great man...full of love...
Short Dog Im that rapping man . I said it before & I say it again LIFE IS 2 SHORT !
I’m reallly from St. Louis and these are facts!!
Thanx for shout out short, 314lou
Too Short is the MAN ⚡️⚡️ I like these long form interview.
Yes he is, obviously. And not just of the hour. Why should you get any thumbs up?
That joint with lil Kim 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Song is called “Call Me”
What you mean “back to the plaques” he was talkin shit we wanna hear
Too Short is a intelligent business man. Most entertainers on his level would never consider a collaboration with someone who didn't have the required amount of money or something of equal value in return at the time. Another excellent point was about being accepted in New York, particularly in the music industry. You can be popular everywhere except NY and succeed, but if you're accepted and successful in New York you most likely will never fail.
Great interview and interviewer
Too Short Lit 😂
He's having fun doing this interview
I like how she lets him talk. Vlad be always talking over folks lol.
Honestly !!!! Vlad should’ve tapped in this interview !!!! Word to my mother🎶
“Yo momma switched boyfriends n I know that” 🤣🤣 idek why that was just funny
Damn Too Short, you forgot to mention RIP MC Breed. He's part of the topic.

Buy you some was my banger here on the East Coast....Great cut.
Straight up I’m going through the fighting for my kids! Gotta fight! This trick done kept my kids from me for 9 months! The worst is the thousand of dollars you gotta spend to be able to just be in your kids life’s
It is called extortion! 🧠👈🏾
You ain’t lying!
Child support fake ass bull shitt, fraud will get there's soon
Can we say Too Short is the longest running rapper
The one part Too Short forgot to mention was why he and Erick Sermon bonded so well.
It’s because Erick Sermon was all about THE FUNK just like Short was.
I hope Too Short does a piece with Vlad explaining the two factions of hip hop.
The Jazz and The Funk.
Short explained it in the 90’s but it needs to be re-told.
The Jazz dominated until Dre and Too Short brought the P-Funk and G-Funk in.
I see the East West battle really as
The Jazz vs The Funk.
(And The Disco from the early 80’s late 70’s).
It’s a different rhythm and a different state of mind.
Please in the future if Too Short is back on have him provide to you his Master Thesis of The Jazz vs The Funk and how “i deal strictly with musicians and producers who are all about …. THE FUNK.”
From the west and that is an interesting POV! Grew up on short
Fu¢hyoo. Jazz and funk are miles away.
Keep preaching BIG DADDY
In the middle on this interview i had too look up “buy you some “ just too here the bass
Buy You Some is classic in Atlanta
That was a great 16 minute segment of info
Man that song one of my fav it was big around the world fyi buy u some woo ah aha ahyia word is bond
Someone please make a “I respect that” compilation.
Furshure
😆😂🤣
The lady interviewing Short has to get waaaaay better at her interviewing skills. Novice at best. Not ready to be interviewing artist on this level
I've known $hort Dog was the shit, by just the way he kicks those lyrics and manifests himself in interviews. And he proves it with sophistication, as he suavely removed the bullets from that Oriental's gun. We love you in Detroit, nigga.
First and foremost I want to say I love this dude because he’s one of the only really real honest rappers out here and he fucking kills it every time pure no filter If I ever get a chance to see him in concert I’m gonna be there And I have to give an salute honorable mention to E-40 fucking incredible dude they put so much game out for the niggas it’s ridiculous
Who is this interviewer. She’s hella goofy why is she asking about someone else’s child 👧🏽 custody case 🙄
Quick question. Rappers have been talking about charging major label artists exorbitant prices for a feature. in the name of sticking it to major labels, the corporations, the man. If that is all just a loan then aren't the ones really getting hurt by the crazy feature prices the artists who are actually the ones paying for the feature since it makes it harder for them to recoup?
That's how Too Short, and Goldie did us in Milwaukee pulled up to Hadley st
Too Short is a living legend! The interviewer is super goofy tho... Looking forward to hearing Too Short over some new Ant Banks production on the 'Mount Westmore' album.
that song /chant e sermon is on getting it!!!!
Didn't know they were filming this interview at Too Short's house.... That interviewer definitely is going to get tossed up 5 minutes after this interview is done! Facts bet on it!

Don’t forget MC Breed is on Buy You Some
She don’t remember that Erick Sermon Too short song at all lol. You had to be on the east coast or Atlanta for that one, and no video ever dropped but it was 🔥🔥
MC Breed(RIP) is part of the topic that should have been mentioned.
He has good stories, he need his own podcast
