  • In 1873, Christopher Sholes changed the world when he designed and manufactured the world's first typewriter. It offered users a way to produce quality, typewritten documents, transforming business, government and education. But the lasting remnant of Christopher Sholes is his layout of the 'Q-W-E-R-T-Y' keyboard, which 150 years later is used daily by billions of people around the world. Every second, of every day, 30 million keystrokes are being hammered out around the world, mostly on Sholes' keyboard layout. That works out to over 1,000,000,000,000,000 (1,000 Trillion!) keystrokes per year! Talk about having an impact!
This video introduces a 'Rem Sho' Bronze and Copper typewriter from the 1890s, designed by Sholes and manufactured by Remington, the military arms industrial giant from the 1800s. It's design and materials are unique, it's place in history is unequalled and it's importance in moving mankind from the Industrial Age to the Computer Age can not be over stated.
