I'm afraid I didn't miss you because this is the first of your videos I've seen. Thanks for the installation walkthrough though. I am going to be installing Debian for the first time outside of a VM soon, so it's nice to see somebody go through the installer and getting a stable system to reassure me that I'm not going to mess it up.
Before you install it outside a VM: Enable the propriertary drivers and make sure you have a wired network at your disposal, since Debian does not have support for proprietary WIFI-drivers out of the box. Or use the Debian variant with the proprietary drivers built in. I will create a video about this.
@@opentaq Ooh, that's good advice. Thank you. I'll subscribe then so I see that video. The other videos on your channel seem high quality anyway. If you're making a video about Debian installer quirks. Would you happen to know what the "Debian desktop environment" checkbox is in the installer? Clearly it's a different checkbox from GNOME, but I have no idea what it installs and tutorials online recommend unchecking it if I want to only install KDE or something.
Considering it @@docopoper. Regarding the non-free drivers: I checked that again, and it looks, as if these would - starting with Debian 12 - be part of the installation media. I will double-check myself by installing it on a dedicated laptop, but it looks as if you could give it a go, and as if they had finally worked that issue out.
My feeling exactly about debian. It is not exiting, but it is rock solid. If you want a super stable server or desktop, go with debian. But bells and whistles are not included.
Awesome to see a new video after such a long time! ❤
More to come!
