I really love the main story of Pokemon Conquest but I do wish we actually got to see how the constant war between kingdoms was bad for the region. We're told at the end that the warriors stopped caring about their pokemon and began to see them as mere tools but that's never actually portrayed within the events of the narrative. Pokemon and warriors seem to get along pretty great and the legend of unification is what spurs you to link with your Pokemon in the first place. Perhaps this is all the way it is in order to show that Nobunaga's approach was wrong but then that makes the big reveal at the end that he was actually trying to help Ransei feel empty and unfulfilling. This is still my favorite Pokemon game but I do wish they treated their themes with a little more care. Although, I do understand that it can be difficult to show the evils of war within children's media.
If anything, given the linking mechanic, that part about "stopped caring" seems to be contradicted by what we're shown in the game itself. And I agree, this game is a bit odd on that front; the main series has had a negative perspective on the wars that take place in its universe (as early as Gen 2, we have Elder Li tell Silver that "Pokémon are not tools of war"), and while this game came out before XY, it retroactively gets odder when XY shows up and goes "yes, many Pokémon die during wars" when the wars Conquest shows us are just as non-fatal as "modern" Pokémon battles. I think a simple way a Pokémon tactical game could hammer it home would be by taking a page off Fire Emblem where if your units die, they die for good. Maybe there could be even more creative and effective ways to depict the how war is hell in the Pokémon universe, and I can't think of them at this exact moment, but permadeath is a start. (I realize this wouldn't work well with the format Conquest was following, this is all just a what-if on my part anyways).

Awesome to see a video on this, I played it on a whim a few years ago and was shocked at just how good it is! Like you said noone really knows about Nobunaga's Ambition in the west so I think having having its name attached to this game turned a lot of people away despite how well the crossover works
If you look at Nobunaga's Pauldrons (Shoulder and Arm) Armor the color is "Black and Gold" So giving him a Shiny Rayquaza which is also "Black and Gold" made perfect sense.
Dude, this is legit one of my absolute favorite Pokémon spinoff titles in the entire franchise. In fact, I love the game so much that I actually took the time and effort to link together each and every Warlord with their perfect links (every Legendary included) AND made sure I had all of their Warrior transformations, both of which I completed fully BEFORE the game's final episode (2 heroes of Ransei). I was seriously that hooked on the game and its creativity, and it's really a shame that it got so underpromotted and overshadowed by every Pokémon game following it. I'll always love Conquest, even when it's 50 years old 😄🚩
Same, I even gave every normal Warrior their perfect links, fully evolved as well, and completed all stories in the post-game, even the WiFi/Password exclusive stories.
i can’t believe i didn’t get recommended this video earlier, pokemon conquest is one of my favorite games and it deserves so much more recognition. all the designs and music are so good and there’s so much stuff you can do too, we got robbed of a conquest sequel
It always suprised me when this game was supposedly a cross between pokemon and nobunagas ambition. When this was first announced, I immediately assumed it was a crossover with the samurai warriors series, especially since the characters designs in conquest is identical to the samurai warriors 3 designs 😂
I'm saying, this game was so retroactively beloved that I bet a Fire Emblem/Pokemon crossover would be very successful. If it were designed like a 25 level game with more team customization while still having lots of content I think the repetitiveness of Conquest wouldn't be as much of an issue. You could even include more chaotic maps like in Conquest rather than the straightforward ones typical to FE. This game has so much sequel potential, and I would love to see a modernized take on it.
I never forgot. I believed the entire time. The character designs of the Warlords are just exquisite and tie in well with Pokemon in a way that no one would ever imagine. Conquest is perhaps my favourite Pokemon-related game second to the Gen V Mainline Games, followed by Explorers of Sky.
I still have the box and cartridge of conquest and this video sends me back to nostalgia, I remember being 9 and spending my Christmas money on it while being indecisive if I actually wanted it or not, but holy hell this game is just amazing ,character design ,the Oichi plot twist, the post game, just everything. Today as an 18 yr old I still play it as a ROM on my phone since my old DS is kinda broken. I feel so sad that there isn't atleast a mini fandom for this game so you don't understand how joyous I am seeing a video made by you about pokemon conquest in 2020.
pokemon conquest is so deep and you can think of many complex strategies with a lot of tactical freedom until you get Volcarona on Okuni with Guardian Charm and you can just solo every fight because Fiery Dance with Kabuki Dance is absolute god tier broken
I feel like this game could be made into a spin off itself, make Pokemon Conquest Online, an MMORPG, where you run around as a Warlord and catch different partner Pokemon and basically play as a pet class the entire game, with a few special moves you assign to you Warlord avatar that can help your partner Pokemon. I could see it being a beautiful game. I would love to see a remake for the Switch and a sequel done of the original as well, but a true Pokemon MMORPG would be a ton of fun and small enough in scope compared to trying to turn all the different generations of Pokemon into a living breathing world.
I REMEMBER THAT GAME!! I have so much nostalgia for it, I had it on ds and my dad would help me with it a lot. Im so glad you are getting it out there more :)
It is an absolute CRIME this wasn’t in my sub box. This is literally my favorite spin off that isn’t Poképark. I’m very glad somebody is finally adknowlaging it.
I started playing Fire Emblem in 2015, but it didn’t remember that it wasn’t my first tactical rpg. I played Pokémon Conquest in elementary school and it was a ton of fun.

Truth be told I actually never heard of Conquest until I heard you were making a video on it, and after watching this I gotta say, I'm very intrigued by it. Looks like a fun game and I love the cool art for it. Why do spin off games seem to be a lot better than the main-line games now? lol
@@antoniodelgado5465 Yeah a common shitty trait of pokemon is never having more than one file for some reason. If you wanyed to replay the main story, you had to reset the game.

Never played the game, but I do remember it thanks to the fact that Japan did a wi-fi event for pokemon B&W that gives the player a shiny Rayquaza, yes Nobunaga's Rayquaza. But the event was Japan exclusive and I was so irritated that never bothered diggin more about the spin-off, kinda sad that this is the only reason I remember this game ngl.
This game is criminally unknown and underrated for a game that got a 9 rating from IGN almost immediately after release Like, I tell my friends this game is good and THEY DON’T BELIEVE ME. AGH
I love this game and how good it blends the two series together. Quick tip to winning that I came across by accident while playing: evolve your Eevee into a Glaceon. Bam, end-game is a cakewalk.
(My english is bad) actually the first crossover between nintendo and koie tecmo was in samurai warriors 3, the wii version had a mode based on nintendo's murasame castle. by the way, your channel’s content is of the highest quality😺
the 2 things i remember about this game are not knowing how to "capture" warlords, (turns out you just capture them in the normal ways but with another warlord) and looking up all the perfect links
Ah yes, Nobunaga's Pokemon Ambition, the unlikely union of a game that would eventually lead to Pokken and Hyrule Warriors. (Still waiting for Pokemon Warriors) Gundam had a Nobunaga's Ambition spinoff series too called Gihren's Greed ( _Pretty sure_ Oda wasn't in them though). Unlike Dynasty Warriors Gundam (dumb name, should've called it Gundam Warriors), I'm pretty sure it's 100% Japan exclusive though and the last game was released in 2011 which was a remake of the first one (the actual last game was released in 2008).
I remember wanting this game so bad when it came out, but eventually didnt get it, but at the time I didnt really get into tactical games yet, and I regret not getting it since I got into tactical games thanks to Fire Emblem Awakening. I might try to get it now when I find it
10:56 I learned that the hard way, as even in the main story once you hit the "Nobunaga section" of the game those enemy warlords can and will take a kingdom if you don't have a threatening army there. So I would try and place random warriors that are decently strong at the border kingdoms just to make them look tough enough to make the AI not want to try and invade
I am surprised he didn't mention the blatant fact that the landmass it's self is literally shaped to look like Arceus. Which was what I noticed when i played the game myself
I loved playing through Conquest. I was very surprised when I saw all the new campaigns I could do, it felt a bit overwhelming. I need to go back to it someday.
I'm so up for a remake or sequel. Hell, if they made this an anime, I would be so down for that. Conquest is the only tactical RPG I've ever played and this game came out around the time I discovered Capcom's Sengoku Basara franchise so I got really excited for that aspect. It needs more love and appreciation.
Pokemon Conquest has the japanese aesthetic but fire emblem conquets has the european one and is the oppposite to the japanese looking one, thats really curious tbh.
I remember being getting this and being EXTREAMLY disappointed because each Pokémon only had one move. I swear, that final boss was so hard, I'm literally using the god of all pokemon, why am I getting bullied by a big tiddy goth gf and her 100% hat ghost
I thought that was Nobunaga’s wife?
Thank you! No one talks about this game despite it being absolutely amazing! It has some actually difficult parts but that makes it even more rewarding when you win in a campaign!
I remember talking about this when it came out on /v/ or /vp/ and EVERYONE loved it which is rare on the vidya boards.
God i miss those days.
Now I haven't been on /vp/ but /v/ is a buzzword wasteland unusable everytime a big title gets out because bait treads and tourists.
Truly the old days were so much better.
@@reinweissritter the "x was never good" posts on every board really didnt know how bad it could get
Wow, you totally brought back some suppressed memories I had about that steel stage. It was so annoying and dragged out!
I don't know which one is worse. That one or the ghost stage and tge moving statues that waste so much time per turn.
@@JRLim105 I got softlocked there once because I only had Normal types left and 12 year old me didn't wanna quit. Eventually quit after a few more turns.
@@JRLim105 i feel you' man
That stage was so annoying
@@JRLim105 Steel and the camera bs is worse but the ghost statues would fuck up my attack plans and either get in my way or open a path for the enemy to attack. The ice stage is pain when you can't target correctly on there due to ice.
You're taking me back to my childhood with this one because I never shut up about how good this game was in comparison to the mainline games (and I still do because I'll never stop hyping this game)
Goodness. You played through the whole danged thing. I honestly don't remember the Pokemon keeping their strength between missions, or maybe I used secondary characters more often through the game..... but getting reset over and over (from what it felt like at least), I only cleared some 5 or so side missions.
Dedicated reviewer. I like it.
They don’t keep their links but they keep their evolutions.
I used to play this game almost every night a few years ago. the post game side quest stuff is so much fun.
Yooo Thank you for talking about this! I've never heard of Pokemon Conquest and I'm very intrigued :O
i can’t believe i didn’t get recommended this video earlier, pokemon conquest is one of my favorite games and it deserves so much more recognition. all the designs and music are so good and there’s so much stuff you can do too, we got robbed of a conquest sequel
It always suprised me when this game was supposedly a cross between pokemon and nobunagas ambition. When this was first announced, I immediately assumed it was a crossover with the samurai warriors series, especially since the characters designs in conquest is identical to the samurai warriors 3 designs 😂
Finally someone covering this games
This just showed up in my recommendations and I LOVE this nice to see videos on this cool spin off.
I preordered this game back when it was announced, I still have the extra content unlock codes I received as a pre order bonus.
Wait, what was the extra content if you don't mind me asking?
@@user-ck7tg1dq9y motochika + motonari, reshiram, ranmaru event, okuni event and a few pokemon that are near impossible to link with normally
What I loved about the Ransei region is that every kingdom was perfectly designed to fit with its Main warlords type speciality
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS GAME!!!
Shame that we didn't get more games like this
pokemon conquest is so deep and you can think of many complex strategies with a lot of tactical freedom until you get Volcarona on Okuni with Guardian Charm and you can just solo every fight because Fiery Dance with Kabuki Dance is absolute god tier broken
3:52 Your going to the mines
This was my favorite pokemon game and my favourite part was the special pokemon connections
Mine to
I REMEMBER THAT GAME!! I have so much nostalgia for it, I had it on ds and my dad would help me with it a lot. Im so glad you are getting it out there more :)
There you go again, covering my childhood
That psychic level is a no smooth brain zone
... I can hear the portals
_chwee chweeeeeew_
It is an absolute CRIME this wasn’t in my sub box. This is literally my favorite spin off that isn’t Poképark. I’m very glad somebody is finally adknowlaging it.
I started playing Fire Emblem in 2015, but it didn’t remember that it wasn’t my first tactical rpg. I played Pokémon Conquest in elementary school and it was a ton of fun.
The funny thing is Conquest was initially going to be a crossover game with Fire Emblem.
Thank you so much for placing the spotlight on this great game!!
It's nice to see this game get some recognition. First Fossil Fighters and now Pokemon Conquest. I'm still hoping you hit Fossil Fighters Champions soon!
Man, I always got every new Pokemon game that came out, but I NEVER saw this one in stores. I swear, I had no idea this existed!
But it looks so good! By the way, I bought the original Fossil Fighters after seeing your video on it and yeah! You were absolutely right: what a game! I love it. I can't imagine all the awesome DS titles I missed because I was a dumb kid, lol.
Thank you RPG Monger! You are awesome!
3 mins in, I'm already sold. Thanks for the rec!
Probably my 4th most played game of all time, only beaten by Smite, Overwatch, and Smash 4.
i fell in love with this game as a kid lmao
Truth be told I actually never heard of Conquest until I heard you were making a video on it, and after watching this I gotta say, I'm very intrigued by it. Looks like a fun game and I love the cool art for it. Why do spin off games seem to be a lot better than the main-line games now? lol
DAMN THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE GAMES I HAVE SPENT 500 HOURS ON IT
I spent well over 1200 HOURS OVERALL.
IMO, the fact that this game locked you out of the main story after beating it kinda killed its replayability.
What like replay the main story? You didnt know you could just reset your game to play the main story again?
@@poly.fcracka9362 Yeah, and then you lose all your progress
@@bluefiregamingandcards theres just one file?
@@antoniodelgado5465 Yeah a common shitty trait of pokemon is never having more than one file for some reason. If you wanyed to replay the main story, you had to reset the game.
I guess with how many scenarios it had maybe it wasn't meant to be replayed and more like your re-play value is with new content?
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!! I have been playing the heck out of this game recently and it is great to see some new publicity for my favorite pokemon game. Not favorite spin off, favorite gqme
If we get a sequel to Pokémon Conquest, it should be called Pokémon Birthright
Never played the game, but I do remember it thanks to the fact that Japan did a wi-fi event for pokemon B&W that gives the player a shiny Rayquaza, yes Nobunaga's Rayquaza.
But the event was Japan exclusive and I was so irritated that never bothered diggin more about the spin-off, kinda sad that this is the only reason I remember this game ngl.
I loved this game, it's too bad it never caught on like the mystery dungeon games
Wait, you're telling me when I played this game I only finished the tutorial, and there was still 100+ more hours of campaigns and content? geez
This game is criminally unknown and underrated for a game that got a 9 rating from IGN almost immediately after release
Like, I tell my friends this game is good and THEY DON’T BELIEVE ME. AGH
Dude thank you for making a video on this game! Conquest deserves more love!
This game is a hidden gem
I myself rate it a Solid 8 out of Ten
One of the best Pokemon Spinoff
also my Fav pokemon, Excadrill
also badass in this game, just like in the Main Series
Excadrill :
HP 5 / Atk 5 / Def 2 / Spd 4 / Move 3
easy to Evolve, Massive Dmg and have great typing (Ground/Steel) to cover weaknees
Compared to Pseudo Legendary like Dragonite, Tyranitar, etc.
Excadrill still looks Awesome
Dragonite & Tyranitar :
HP 4 / Atk 5 / Def 4 / Spd 3 / Move 2
Hydreigon :
HP 4 / Atk 4 / Def 4 / Spd 3 / Move 3
Garchomp :
HP 5 / Atk 4 / Def 3 / Spd 4 / Move 3
Metagross :
HP 3 / Atk 5 / Def 5 / Spd 3 / Move 3
I just realized, i didn't even finish the "tutorial" part of the game. This game is interesting, really a fresh new take from the mainline pokemon.
Broke: Nobunaga’s Ambition, Pokémon Edition
Woke: Fire-Type Emblem
Still one of my favorite tactics games. I honestly want more of this if they could ever make another one.
Ah yes, Nobunaga's Pokemon Ambition, the unlikely union of a game that would eventually lead to Pokken and Hyrule Warriors. (Still waiting for Pokemon Warriors)
Gundam had a Nobunaga's Ambition spinoff series too called Gihren's Greed ( _Pretty sure_ Oda wasn't in them though).
I have finished this game many times and I really enjoyed it
I am surprised he didn't mention the blatant fact that the landmass it's self is literally shaped to look like Arceus. Which was what I noticed when i played the game myself
I love Conquest its where I got my name! I just wish I still had it
rip dude, rip.
I loved playing through Conquest. I was very surprised when I saw all the new campaigns I could do, it felt a bit overwhelming. I need to go back to it someday.
Omg finally someone talks about this absolute gem of a game
Imagine the remakes/sequel having Oichi becoming the first Warlord of the new Fairy Kingdom
The OST in this game is holy
I'm so up for a remake or sequel. Hell, if they made this an anime, I would be so down for that. Conquest is the only tactical RPG I've ever played and this game came out around the time I discovered Capcom's Sengoku Basara franchise so I got really excited for that aspect. It needs more love and appreciation.
Yeeeees! This game is awesome. Also, I want Ginchiyo to kick my ass.
Great video Monger! Loved this game growing up and I still have it to this day.
Pokemon Conquest has the japanese aesthetic but fire emblem conquets has the european one and is the oppposite to the japanese looking one, thats really curious tbh.
I love this game. I've never once forgotten about it. I want a sequel
I remember being getting this and being EXTREAMLY disappointed because each Pokémon only had one move. The way the Warlords interact with Pokémon was great but it still felt flat to me comparing it to something like Final Fantasy Tactics. Id love to see them try something like Conquest again though.
Wozza.
My uncle got it for me together with Pokemon White! Pokemon Conquest has such a special place in my heart, my favorite character was Hanbei lmao
Why the fk pokemon RANGER AND CONQUEST aren't getting a new game
