  • In this video I replace the broken shock on my 16890a with a set of new shocks from Amazon but more importantly I installed a relative cheap Aluminum Upgrade/Hop Up kit from eBay that looks great and shouldn't easily break. You can pickup the Aluminum Upgrade Kit from eBay using the following link. www.ebay.com/i...
    The HBX 16890a is available at Amazon for $149 using the following link.

      Yes!! I'm going to upgrade my 903a to aluminum as soon as I see a kit for it and when I do I'll be sure to top off the shocks with oil.

    Seems like a decent aluminium upgrade kit, pity about the issues with the new shocks though even after you fixed the leak cause they look much better than stock

      Oh my. I'm very interested in that. I need to look through their color catalog again because there are some higher end cars in the back of the catalog that I've never seen listed anywhere.

    Now that you have had time on these parts how is the car holding up? are the bulkheads holding up? I would be concerned that instead of breaking or flexing an arm you are now going to put that on the bulkhead.

    hi how are you? those upgrades look really nice but mine is the brushed 16889 version and its use is for interior, a little help here pleaaase, the only problem is with the controller, to install my dumbo receiver do i need to change also the esc? i need to change the controller because it gets crazy braking and reversing when i am accelerating forward, none of my rc cars do that

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes you get to install an aftermarket ESC that you can connect to the dumbo receiver.

    Sometimes the upgrades are downgrades but at least you didn't have a lot into those shocks! Hope you can find a better set for it.

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  Год назад +1

      You got that right Addam!! I wouldn't have ever touched the stock shocks if it weren't for the left front one breaking. The stock shocks just needed more oil added to them. I figured I'd give these $14 shocks a shot. I've had some good luck with some of these cheap RC products but these were a strong lesson in "you get what you paid for" :) At least the aluminum upgrade parts seem great. Thanks so much for stopping by!!

      @@RDsRCReviews And sometimes you win big on finds like that but more often than not it ends up being so-so parts, it really is a 50/50 shot it seems!!

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  Год назад +1

      @@AddamsPlayground agreed! Oddly though I've had great luck with the cheap brushless electronics. They are hard to pass up for simple backyard bashing for the price. The shocks I picked up from Banggood for my 16889 are wonderful and they are dirt cheap.

    Really cool upgrades Ryan! Love your Holiday intro! Thee aluminum bits will definitely give this a fighting chance in the case of an impact or hard landing. It may be a generic kit , but it seems too have most of the essentials. • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  Год назад

      Yep! The stock shocks were fine, they just needed more oil added but when mine broke I thought I would give these cheap shocks a try. Yes, those oil filled shocks I got from BG for my 16889 are great so I wish I had just gotten them instead but I didn't feel like waiting a month to get them. Thanks for stopping by John!

    Cheap soft aluminium parts on a bashing truck = fragile blim blim with NO FLEX = breaking parts. Sorry , nice but useless waste of money. That's obvious.😉

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  9 месяцев назад

      Lol, then go spend 5x more on a Traxxas. I admit the shocks suck so I need to get better ones but everything else has been great

    • @Madprax
      @Madprax 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@RDsRCReviews No , i neither "spend 5x more on a Traxxas" , nor waste 50 bucks in useless upgrades... I just bought my HBX 16889 Pro for 83 bucks (so just a little more than what you pay just for your aluminium parts + shocks) , and KEEP IT STOCK, its quite bulletproof as it is, and plastic replacements are very cheap. Same for the shocks, just keep the stock ones , change for a heavier oil if needed + new o ring joints if they leak and that's all.
      These trucks are worth because they are cheap. ( less than 100 bucks )
      If you add 50 bucks upgrades, you should better buy directly a better car.
      You get an Arrma Gorgon for 150 or a Hpi JumpshotV2 for 160 ... Lol😉
