CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When General Newton (Burt Reynolds) presents Whistler's Mother" to the crowd, Bean ("Rowan Atkinson) admits to David that it's a poster.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Comic actor Rowan Atkinson brought his bumbling character Mr. Bean from television to the big screen with this British comedy. Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) is a well-meaning but not especially bright fellow with a gift for making the worst of any situation. Bean is about to be fired from his job as a guard at the Royal Nation Art Gallery for sleeping on the job, but the Chairman (John Mills) intervenes at the last moment. To insure that his incompetence will manifest itself so completely that there will be no choice but to get rid of him, Bean's superiors come up with a plan -- they'll send him to America to speak at a posh private gallery owned by George Grierson (Harris Yulin), where General Newton (Burt Reynolds) will display the most recent addition to his art collection, "Whistler's Mother." It's even money whether or not the museum will still be standing before Bean is done; as if this weren't enough, while in L.A. Bean is mistaken for a surgeon and forced to operate on an injured police officer. Richard Curtis, one of the film's producers, said after viewing the final product, "It's an unpleasant family movie. I'm very pleased."

I know his is supposed to be funny and it really is, but it's also quite beautiful. The soundtrack is epic. I feel silly but it brings tears to my eyes. Just so well acted and touching.
I love David's reaction to the poster since Johnny English fixed it that svaed himself and his life and family where he continues on and shows that his mate can takes things seriously no matter if he's happy go lucky all the time.!

It's a pity they cut out the scene where he is introduced to Mr. Bean properly.

Howard Goodall, who composed the theme song of the show returned to compose this movie :) highly intelligent and fantastic music composer!!
All jokes aside lets not forget that Bean disfigured and virtually destroyed a priceless painting, replaced it a cheap copy and also stole the damn thing. This is a disgrace and it teaches our children that.....haha just kidding. I love this shit! Bean for President.

I have seen Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie dozens of times now and 1:22 still gives me goosebumps. Just one thing though, if for some reason the "painting" had to be moved again at some point in the future, won't somebody discover that Whistler's Mother is actually a poster made to look like the real painting? Then David really would have to worry.
Actually, something I didn't know until I bought a printed scriptbook of the film at a fleamarket: the original ending would've actually been 'Three years later', when an earthquake occured and the poster ripped apart from the framing, revealing it's true state. Thén the shot would cut to Bean saying goodnight to his bear, with the destroyed original in his room.
Really? I didn't know that.
Interesting but I'm kinda glad they left that out because this way everyone has a happy ending with closure. It really doesn't matter that it doesn't make sense because we're talking about a movie where nurses randomly mistook Mr Bean to be a surgeon where he magically saved a guy's life by pulling a bullet out of his stomach with his hands. I don't think they were going for realistic.

I think at that point they'd think someone stole the poster and replaced it, which Bean did but I don't think the police would think he or David had anything to do with it.

@Lauren Janell According to Mr. Bean, I guess he felt uncomfortable to keep a secret hidden which is why he told David that it was a poster. Hopefully that poster will stay stuck forever since Mr. Bean chewed up a lot of chewing gum to make it stick because I'm sure if the poster falls off the frame, the owner Mr. Grierson will find out that there was a secret hidden and then David will get fired.

Fun Fact: According to the director of this movie! Before they start filming it! They hired a professional artist to remake a second copy of Whistler's Mother to replaced with the $50M one with the $200K one for Bean to ruined! Because they don't want the actual painting to be f'kd up or messed up. So they made a version copy and the real one was still at the other gallery art and was still there the one they use in the movie is just a second copy did by the artist who spent days painting it by copy to copy. It wasn't until the film has now rolling and they use the copy painting intead of the real one that cost $50M (possibly they used is an $200K painting not the real $50M one).
So when messed up the painting and he knows to found a way to fix it by replacing the ruined $200K painting with a cheap $100 poster brought by a proffessional poster maker using the exact photo of a paiting and completely using it for any damaged to the real painting.
If you ask Where is the original painting stays while this movie is filming?
Somewhere in USA Gallery but not in Grierson Gallery, it was transferred to the Other Gallery Arts and was later brought it back to the Grierson after the movie was done filming.

If they ever found out that it’s a poster, who would they blame? The person who sell it to them or the idea itself that the whistler’s mother painting is a fraud?
Kinda surprised how Mr Bean knew how to restore it back to its original condition after accidentally ruining it, but hey Mr Bean knew if he didn’t do it then he no one will forgive him for it
I have to say this. The very first time I watched this, I somehow recall that, when the painting was unveiled and David saw that it had been "restored", he started pumping his fists and cheering like someone who watched his favourite soccer team score a goal. When I was younger, I was disappointed when I didn't see this again, but now, as an adult, I realise that this would have drawn a lot of attention from David's peers.

Here's what will happen if Mr Bean didn't "fix" the painting:
On the day of the unveiling, the damaged painting would be shown, everyone present would be shocked, then every newspaper and every TV channel would pick up on the news and report the incident. The interest generated due to this incident would make the publicity of the painting skyrocket and it would become a household name overnight. Everyone would be talking and tweeting and creating memes about the painting. Tons of ordinary people would flood the gallery hoping to see this "ruined" artwork with such an extraordinary story behind it. And the hype around the painting generated by this incident would push the price of the painting even higher. The art gallery would love the publicity they're getting and the General who donated the painting wouldn't even care, by his own conviction, he cannot tell the difference between Picasso and car crash, so he would probably consider Bean's doodle an improvement.
So in a sense, Mr Bean's accidental action will bring "Whistler's Mother" out of the art world and into the mainstream culture. Mona Lisa and American Gothic both became famous not because they were tremendously better than other paintings in the same time period, but rather because they were both linked to highly publicized events at that time, which help them to make their way into mainstream culture and become masterpieces in our minds.

At 0:14, Harris Yulin and Peter MacNicol both played in Ghostbusters 2 in 1989. In case no one knows, Harris Yulin played the judge in the courtroom when those two ghost (the Scoleri Brothers)freed and manifested themselves from the jar full of pink slime on the evidence table.
+William Brown That's right, and Peter MacNicol played as Dr. Janoz Poha as the owner of an art museum just like Harris Yulin is the owner of the art museum on this movie. (The first movie Peter MacNicol was on was the movie "Dragonslayer" and out of all the actors on that movie, all of them passed away except for Peter MacNicol).
Ain't that a coincidence that Yulin is the owner of a museum like where MacNicols was somewhat the owner ro director of the museum in GB2.
