Went to Andertons with three grand burning a hole in my pocket. Wanted to try a bunch of guitars and expected to come home with a Gibson. Picked up the H7 and fell in love with the neck. P90s sealed the deal. No regrets
Mine just arrived yesterday! Can't believe it took me this long to get a guitar with P90s, absolutely loving them! Fit, finish build of guitar is way beyond it's price point too! Same colors too :)!
I kinda regret staying away from P90 guitars until I turned 40, I somehow thought those pups were obsolete like back in 1978. Amazing sound. And absolutely mindblowing playing by you, once again.
I've just taken delivery of one of these. Handsome in black, gold bits. Straight from the box, plug and play, maybe an hour of noodling. I'm not giving it back, it's superb. A couple of days later. I've got a number of high-end electrics. This fits in great. Fit, finish, quality control is faultless, no-slop-whatever tuners and rock-solid stability, the P90s are the real deal and answer the controls perfectly. Seems like it's wired simply, 50s style. Ace! It lives up to axes costing five times as much. No compromise pro grade instrument. I'm looking forward to the gold bits getting some wear on them, it's gonna happen - 'cos it sounds great.
When listening to your solos, like this one, I get the feeling that you open your very own secret door into a wonderful fresh, sonic landscape, where you can freely wander around and explore a seemingly infinite variation of musical territory. In this clip you really make the Sire H7V sing with such a superb tone. What a pure joy!
I’ve given up the idea of ever affording a Gibson 335 , but over just the last few years these 335 clones are certainly not second best , but this p 90 version has sold me on this guitar ,
If this is banked video, that means Congratulations are soon in order! You're not playing a strat in the intro, so good luck to you both and looking forward to your first new video after your daughter is born!
Hi John - thanks for your video review of the Sire H7V. A year or two back I replaced the humbuckers in an old Epi DOT 335 with P90s and I think its' a marriage made in semi-acoustic heaven...if I didn't have the Epi I would definitely go for the H7V, especially after your review and what I know now. Good work John.
I have picked up several Sire guitars after listening to your demos. I have even copped several of your licks because I enjoy your melodic sensibilities
I've got one of these in cherry sunburst for a week now. I lowered the action a bit. The nut needed some attention because the G and B strings were binding at the nut. For the rest it is perfect. For the price this quality is mindblowing. I like it a lot. Maybe in the future I'll change the electronics into a 50's wiring because it will give me more tonal options. Very nice review and playing!
2:13-4:07 I've been listening to Vai for 40 years. That was a lovely Vai-ish run. This was by far the best demo of this guitar I've seen. Thank you! Beautiful phrasing and playing! All throughout.
I was working as tech on a show about 6 months ago. A Doo Wop show. One guitarist had one the inspired by Gibson ES 339 burst. I asked him if he liked that guitar because I was considering buying one. I want a semi hollow but not the 335. Some a bit smaller like a 339, a Florentine or Memphis. He told me loved and then he showed his les paul which a custom shop Gibson. He said he liked the Epi 339 better.. I asked for any particular reason, the sound, playability and he said both. lol So there you go. Don't be scared to buy a guitar. I'm sure a sire H series is a step up from the Epiphone due to the neck and frets that Sire puts on these. The H-7 is not much more than the Epiphone if you want a bit better quality. I like P-90's also. a lot more bite and clean for clean tones and they get gnarly with a bit of dirt.
I put J. Mascis Squier Jazzmaster pickups in a 335 and they are basically p-90s at least in the Squier version of that signature guitar and I absolutely love it. Fantastic video. Cheers.
Wow, that box opening was a nail bitter. I was afraid you might slip and cut your arm off.Geeesss! Now that the weapon is out of your hand I can relax and watch your review of this beautiful guitar.

How many Sire's have reviewed now? So the new G5 is the best one? But I really love this one, the H7v, just because it can do more or less everything and with P90's... My wife is also happy due to that I can play it acousticly without it sound awful and not that loud, and an acuostic is pretty loud! Anyway, did you get the story around this guitar? Pete Honoré from Andertons got to choose a special order from Sire Guitars and he wanted a H7, semihollow, with P90's... And that the way it is... I named my H7v to 'Danish Pete', even though I'm a Swede, and it is my favourite guitar! By the way, your playing is breathtaking! 👍
Hello John. A big hello from Colombia . I've been seeing you a lot lately, IDK why I hadn't suscribed before. Look, I'd like to be honest about my situation from here: the exchange rate of the Dollar/Euro vs COP (our currency) is crazy ---> 5:1... Its ridiculous. My personal dilema: I've been really needing a semi-hollow guitar and in that sense, guitars like Yamaha SA2200, Gibson ES335 etc is absolutely unaffordable for me but, consequently, I've been really interested in the H7 line from Sire. I didn't like the narrowness on the nut width in the traditional H7 but after doing some research, I've found out that this new H7V did correct that and I also happen to love the p90s (my current main guitar is a Revstar 702b with p90s). I'd love to know it theres a chance to have both the H7 and the H7v head to head so that we can have a better idea of what we're really dealing with here regarding these two guitars. I've been thinking for over 7 months what to buy but the narrowness on the nut width was the main reason that stopped me from taking the risk of blindingly buy any of these guitars. It is almost an act of faith, hehe. This world is a bit crazy, you know. For all of us here, this is quite normal: it is rare to have these sorts of guitars available here to try out, so we have to "imagine" how they might feel in the hands through helpful videos like the ones you make. To me, your content has a great value. -- Regarding the H7 vs the H7V comparison, I think that indeed it would be nice to know about the sound qualities of each guitar, for sure, but it would also be great to address the nut width differences (if it really matters or not); the noise of the p90s when compared to the hambucker version and the 'chunkyness' on both the necks too. Thanks for your understanding. I'm really interested in this guitar and the H7V has stolen my attention mostly thanks to your videos. Thanks for heklping us out as southern americans. There's almost no access here to these sort of offers from the market (Sire, Sheckter etc). I was touring in brazil in December and I was very surprised that almost all the musical instruments industry (guitars and basses) is local. NO Sires available for try outs anywhere. You can only see the typical: affordable lines of Fender/Squier, Gibson/Epiphone, a couple of Revstars and that's about it. Very close to the landscape here in Colombia. Anyway John, I thank you very much for your time and work. I enjoy very much your musical taste, your playing and technique. Thank you JNC. Sincerely, Pinzonic
Great demo! it's so pleasing to listen to players who know how to use vibrato and bending strings without either bending out of tune or making this "nervous"vibrato sound. Many demoers on RUclips can't. I really like your sound from 2:05 mark. May I ask what effects/amps you are playing trough here?
I tried to buy a Sire for several months but they were never in stock. Sweetwater, Guitar Center, it didn't matter. No one had any and I wouldn't order one if it wasn't in stock. So I bought a couple of other guitars and now, Sire is coming out everywhere again. I just bought a Helix floor in November so I can't justify spending more for a while.
I had a Larry Carlton. I traded it for a Gretsch only because the neck didn't fit my hand well. They are superb guitars. Very well made and the do sound very good
This is a great guitar. I have one with HBs and enjoy playing it. Having said that, I think it's important to note that John very likely receives QC'd and setup guitars for his promotion videos. The guitar I bought from Thomann's doesn't come with a gig bag, had the black fretboard staining mentioned in other independent reviews, high nut, completely whack bridge pickup position which was pushing up the strings, it was so high and the tone-knob plate already fell out. Sooo... great demo... great guitar but don't fall for the 'OMG these are unbelievable' videos. They have their short comings for the low price like any other brand in the price-range.
Great I just got one and it's exceptional, have Truefire approached you in regards to making a guitar lesson with them? Just a thought... they really should 👍🏼
Great video, thank you! It does sound amazing, and when I ordered mine, the P90 played a big role. Mine arrived with no case/bag and the color is slightly different (might be the lighting) and the figuring is slighter better. Agreed with the frets, they do need either playing or polishing. You had the H7 and now the H7V, can you see/feel a difference (not in sound) in playing?
Great review. How noisy are the P90s when playing clean, then a little dirt? Obvious humm at low volume or does it kick in as you turn up the volume and gain?
I use a 79 ES-347 and have been looking for an affordable backup. The main options that I have found are the Ibanez JSM20 (John Scofield's signature), Eastman T386, the vintage Japanese copies like the Yamaha or Greco SA series or Ibanez AS, Epiphany Shinichi Ubukata ES-355, and the Sire H7 and H7v. The Sires on the used market can be found for 550-600 which is really attractive. But, while vain, this guitar has one of the ugliest headstocks I have ever seen. If I can't put together the extra 200-400 for some of these guitars, this seems like the pick, but man is it a bad design choice.
just bought the black version - insane value for money, the build quality is up there, or perhaps above in some cases, Gibson. I'll be fitting a Duesenberg Les Trem (and roller bridge) to mine tomorrow, happy to update you on how that goes!! Would love to know what you played that through to get that glorious sound, as mine doesn't sound like that - hoping there's a Pod Go patch for it!
@@valendis True dat, I recently got a Jazzmaster and I'm blown away with the clarity. Even over the P90s in my Les Paul (but I still over that guitar too)
It’s great to see affordable instruments in the marketplace. I would like to get my hands on a Sire to see how they feel. My only issue with this one is purely a personal preference about the “pointy” sunburst. It looks rathe cheap and tacky (to me). Otherwise it’s an intriguing instrument for the price.
Nope, i had a fusion II, and i thought it was pure trash. Everything was ok, but the neck playability threw me off. I dont expect much to be changed on fusion III
I got one and I really like it. My only hang up was how narrow the neck is. That said, the guitar sounds excellent.. also, it’s a bit heavier than expected.
Did you mean narrow at the nut width? If so that's why I won't be ordering a Sire semi-hollow electric because it won't accommodate my fairly large hands, even though I like the looks of them and some of the specs. Thanks👍
@@SuperJayfive Thanks for your quick reply! When checking out the specs on Sweetwater again, I see that the Sire LC H7V comes w/ a 1.69" nut, but the LC H7 comes with only a 1.57" nut! I've never seen an electric guitar w/ that narrow of a nut. I wonder if it's a typo? Going to call S.W. to find out for sure. On a full size semi-hollow, it seems like it would make more sense to build it w/ a 1.75" nut width. Did you buy the H7 or the H7V? Anyway, I'm probably going to look elsewhere. The ONLY company I know of right now that is building some of it's semi-hollow guitars w/ a standard 1.75" nut width is Eastman. They cost 2 - 3x what the Sires are going for, but I'm probably going to end up springing for one in order to accommodate my large hangs/fingers. Thanks Again!
Wish Sire made some practical guitar.. Like S shaped 12 inch plus radius modern trem(which it has)... I will never understand why someone would want a heavily carved neck and restrict their playing. All guitars should have a flatter radius.
Love your channel and review on the H7v . So much I bought one and it came yesterday. I fine that in middle position you have to push the neck pickup almost 30% to get a sound from the bridge pickup. Never knew the blend is dependent. Do u find the same? I also have no sound with bridge position first plugged in and tapping near the toggle switch it comes back on. Perhaps dust got in the contact or soldering issue?
Apparently I learnt something new about the middle position is normal to Les Paul standard wiring. I just need to resolve the intermittent no sound issue :) other than that the quality and finishes is excellent!
Whoa, perhaps lay off the gain, mate - thinlines can be much more expressive than solidbodies with how the pickup balance affects break-up character. High gain legato noodling masks a lot of what is "in there", potentially. i. e. When every guitar sounds similarly clipped, compressed and "arranged for", the possibility for a unique feeling gets buried. Try picking every note and getting as much as you can without needing any sustain, and _listen_ to what the guitar is telling you. _There are words in there that a solidbody can't quite say._
Corey Congillio (Congilio?) does RUclips dem of Epiphone Casino. It says exactly that. The H7 or H7v (like the es335) is a semi-hollow but it's the same effect. Less is more when you ditch the synthetic processing with these types of guitar. Which is OK because the guy "does his thing" but for a dem - so many are putting guitars through either loads of gain or processing. Either way, the effect is basically soporific...ironically. The energy in music comes from the rhythm, not our finger speed. Incidentally, I own one of these. I've seen it said a few times on RUclips that one has the impression of it being a high-end, high-dollar instrument. I completely agree. Mine is superb to play, sounds are the real thing, the controls, frets, tuners...fully present pro-grade quality on a superb guitar that one could easily estimate to cost four times the money. I shimmed the bridge p/up for a balance I like but honestly - no hot-rodding or after-market needed here.
Went to Andertons with three grand burning a hole in my pocket. Wanted to try a bunch of guitars and expected to come home with a Gibson. Picked up the H7 and fell in love with the neck. P90s sealed the deal. No regrets

@@samuelbeniuga9116 So you are saying you don't actually know anything about the Fusion-III :D. It's a great guitar!
@@samuelbeniuga9116 😩waaah! I was hoping to get a proper guitar I can (almost) afford!
How can a semi-hollow be 8-1/2 pounds? Must be a British vs American pounds thing! :)
May i ask about your amp and pedals/effects you are using - GREAT TONE!!
How does it do with a George Benson be smooth jazz sound?
wow...how about a smaller knife....do you use a 10 Sledgehammer for a doorbell. ??? just saying..great video BTW
Think about how much better it would have sounded if you took the plastic off of the pickup covers!😊
what is with the plastic over the top of the pickups???
please tell me what is the setting on your amp..the leadsound is sooo..nice!❤🎉😊
The H7V has a sweet voice. I prefer the P90's over the reg humbuckers.
Love the pocket knife
Great playing! A great sounding guitar as well.
Thanks👍
@@richardalan6219 yes, I’m referring to nut width. I also have pretty large hands but I did get used to the neck. .
NICE PLAYING ✌🏽👍🏽
Stainless or nickel frets ?
Is that knife legal in Britain?
Novel letter-opener you have there, beats Tuco from Breaking Bad.
(Mr Rogers voice) “Can you say phrasing? Can you say nuance?”
Wish Sire made some practical guitar.. Like S shaped 12 inch plus radius modern trem(which it has)... I will never understand why someone would want a heavily carved neck and restrict their playing. All guitars should have a flatter radius.
Jealousy is not an attractive attribute but I’m currently green with envy.
Nice and quacky 11:01.... some EJ channeling going on after 13:08.
I see you did not show the headstock. Must be a copy
He played the WONDER out of thiat Guitar before even saying mix words and talking about it
Kinda hard to hear what a pickup sounds like going through pedals . Why do you guys always do that.
