Why this popped up in my feed, I haven't a clue, but I love it. Great song, lyrics and recording. Very whimsical, in a good way. I can spend day recording tracks for perfection, and it's usually the first couple of takes I wind up using because of their freshness and "no thought". Later you become conscious of trying to do it right, they usually become rote. One comment, I love this dog...you need more dog in the song. :)
Thank you for this fun video! This song is great- first recording session!?! I never would have guessed. Did you use the TLM103 and sm7 both for vocals? I have been borrowing an SM7, the sound is incredible. It holds its own against the Sennehiser 441 I’ve been using, which is a thousand bucks! Thanks again Travis.
this sounds beautiful... i've been mucking around trying to figure out how to get a nice stereo sound like this when overdubbing on my 414. how did you arrange things track wise in this case? sounds really wide and rich
@@travisraab totally! thanks for the reply :) did you not run out of stereo tracks? im hearing at least 2 rhythm guitar tracks (deliciously panned), 2 vocal tracks, then the lead electric and slide... did you move these to logic or bounce some of the tracks to mono (vocals maybe?)
This sounds fantastic! I have just bought a Tascam 414 mkii, i don't know much about analog gear but there is a considerable amount of tape warbling as I play through what I've recorded. I'm using a Type 2 Maxwell tape, which i've seen is compatible. Do you know what the cause of this would be? I'm a little clueless on my next step! Thanks!
Goes hard. I’ve got a line on a local 414 (regular model) for $250. Are you choosing this over other comparable 4tracks? You’ve got some testing experience now but this one was your first unit, I think. Also there’s an 244 posted…I’m considering. Doesn’t have slow speed option. Does the 414? I value simplicity workflow in design above all. Thoughts?
@@travisraab the only 424 in local classifieds is $700 :/ so those other two I’m considering. Sounds like the 414 is maybe less inspiring to you than other options 👍 and yeah I see now the 414 does have the regular speed option
Haha I'm so confused. The tape i used on this was a million years old. The last tape i bought it might make been off Amazon yeah.. are you planning on recording to cassette? If so with which machine?
Hello. I found an ad about a mixing console from Tascam (model: M-244). Is it a good hardware? I would like any info you guys can spare before making the purchase. Thx!
It's great to show that the process isn't 100% mindblowing from the get-go. The final product is what counts.
Are you kidding me !? That sounds amazing hahahaha. So simple yet so honest and beautiful. I love it
Thanks Cristian 😊

Richard I'm glad the video found you! You're totally right the first takes are always the best, then it becomes mechanical garbage. the dog says hello
This was just beautiful!
Thanks 🙏

Hi sam! yeah conor killed it.
i think we ended up using only the sm7b for all the vocals, and then u87 on the geetar. yeah that sm7 is a classic :)
That's a great sounding songie-hootie-hoo!
One of the best!
Any way.I love the sound of that song!

Have you used any external compressors? or is it just the tape/gain?
I may have done some mastering at the very end, I haven't watched the video in a while. But no other effects
Cassette tapifying, great phrase! 😆

Hard panned guitars! That's the secret

I would get a brand new tape the shorter it is the better the fidelity will be then see how the warble is
@@travisraab okay I’ll give it a shot! Thanks!
Comment to boost in algorithm. Haven't watched yet but I know it's gonna be tight
And the song is great too!!
😂
thank you!

Did you guys use any noise reduction?
nope
Fun video as usual.... hey where do you find your cassettes? I know what you're gonna say... Amazon!

Hey man . really like your vids ! did you bounce here only the master track after mixing?
yeah man just bounced it out. it took a couple tries, adjusting eq to get it right. you have a great name btw! one of my favs

Do you mean the 244 four track? Not familiar with m244 mixer
Very Nick Drake
Sounds like those old Beck records coolio
Now that you mention it yeah Conor does have a beck vibe
Little Nick Drake-y
yeah you turned the pre amps up the whole way before you even plugged it in. of course its distorted
Nah
How do you get the sound back from the tascam to logic?
You use an interface. I talk about this in my tape recording course.
Plug the output of Tascam in the interface input , it’s probably rca idk I don’t have one … yet 🤭
This isn't hoodie, its neutral milk hotel
