The words are incredibly moving and encapsulate the feelings we have for our country. I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test That lays upon the altar, the dearest and the best The love that never falters, the love that pays the price The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice And there's another country, I've heard of long ago Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know We may not count her armies, we may not see her king Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering And soul by soul, and silently her shining bounds increase And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace
I love this song when played by the armed forces, it gives me goose bumps and patriotism to my country and all the men who fought for our freedoms in all the wars. and now to see all the Mp's in Parliment signing our Freedoms away in the UK. I could cry for my Grandfather who fought in 1st world war and died thinking he had made freedom for us forever ....
As a retired member of Her late Majesties Royal Canadian Navy, I am always moved by the music of Great Britain, be it Rule Britannia, Heart of Oak, or I Vow to Thee My Country etc. I marched to many of these in my twenty-six years of service to Canada and the Crown. God Bless the King and all who serve him.
The Festival of Rememberance is very moving. Each year is slightly different but the thousands of poppies falling towards the end of the evening is so emotional as is the religious service. I Vow To Thee My Country is a wonderful piece of mysic and the words too.
Hi guys, this music was originally composed by Gustav Holstz, and was one of the pieces in the Planet Suite, and represents Jupiter. Sir Cecil Spring Rice wrote the lyrics 'I Vow to Thee, My Country' and the hymn was born
Holtz couldn't complete this music during WW I. It has nothing to do with Britain or the USA. Too much smaltz. You are both of African descent, consider what part England and America played in your ancestors leaving continental Africa.
@@normanchristie4524 "I Vow to Thee, My Country" is a British patriotic hymn, created in 1921 when music by Gustav Holst had a poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice set to it.

When you get to the end of the Festival of Remembrance. The Military line up on the centre of the Royal Albert Hall and a Poppy petal falls for every person who died during the wars.
This was at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. Every year, rhe country comes to a halt for two minutes at 11am on 11 November (the moment the guns fell silent in WW1) to remember those who gave their lives for their country; this is Armistice Day. The nearest Sunday is Remembrance Sunday and the King, other royals, Prime Minister, heads of political parties, High Commissioners of Commonwealth countries and many others will pay tribute at the Cenotaph in London, followed by a large parade of veterans. There will be similar parades around the country and wreaths laid at war memorials; my local council will ensure that wreaths are laid at any memorial where no one lives or attends any more. There is another countrywide silence at 11am. The evening before, the King, Queen and royal family will attend the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance. The Legion is an organisation for veterans and those were the standards of the branches that were paraded in the video. The King himself is a veteran. The UK doesn't do overt patriotism like flags everywhere but we do take Remembrance very seriously. It's worth seeing last year's (or any) Festival in full yourself, especially the Muster. My own former unit will spend the weekend at different parades: Saturday is a parade at a local cemetery with many war graves, followed by another at the unit's own memorial garden. Sunday will see them parading in the nearby city and in the capital, Edinburgh. Of course, veterans will be in attendance at all of these. This is a fantastic sung version of the non-religious version by the Royal Marines: ruclips.net/video/GZNJFrb0IGo/видео.htmlsi=aGRTFrFeobIJqA9z I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no questions, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. I heard my country calling, away across the sea, Across the waste of waters, she calls and calls to me. Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head, And around her feet are lying the dying and the dead; I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns; I haste to thee, my mother, a son among thy sons. Not being Christian, I prefer this version!
That was SO beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. Loved your reaction..it was exactly the same as mine. In England, we wear our Patriotism quietly, but did you notice the elderly soldiers carrying the flag? It reminded me of my Grandfathers who both served their Country during the 2nd World War, and were never the same afterwards, bless them 💔.
Hi,you should watch the burial of the unknown soldier who's resting place is in Westminster Abbey and is the only grave no one is allowed to walk on,it's very moving.
In Flanders' fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders' fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe; To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high, If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders' Fields.
My dad fought in ww2 also played the French Horn in a military band. This reminds me of him. He would have been 102 years old on his birthday yesterday. He became a senior nurse after he left the army as he wanted to save people, not kill them. He saved a lot of lives & was such a kind man underneath his tough exterior. I miss him very much
My late father was a royal Marine , and growing up in London, we went every year to the Royal Military Tattoo Show, with my uncle, who was my fathers Major. Sometimes, with the Queen in attendance, the night we went. The Tattoo show was the last think my father saw, he had a massive heart attack on his walk home , and didn't make it, so I'd say he went out in style. He never missed it.❤

i dont know whether you read these comments these days, but here goes i hope you do the poopy, is part of the royal british legion, the money made from the poppy, goes to help veterans, i am a veteran, im 60 years old, served late 80's and early 90's, as a medic in the army Im now 60 years old and went through a hard time, finaicail and metal, my world came crashing down 40 years after serving, they were there for me, help with medical, finacial, talked to people i owed money and my landlord, im good now, because of these people, and the people that get the poppy it does not matter whether you served, 1 day ot 20 years, they will help
Just google the words of the hymn I Vow To Thee My Country...always sung at a Festival of Remembrance. All the flags are carried by divisions of Veteran organisations all over the UK and sometimes Commonwealth. Just look up the words. Also, poppies represent every person who was killed in the World Wars, representing the Field of Flanders in France where so many died in WWI. Do look up the words of this hymn. It's sung in church, not just to do with war.
This is from the Nation that abolished the slave trade as distinct from the Nation (US) that threatens slaves in the words of its national anthem. Dont believe me? Look at the full verses!
I would echo Luke Evans singing this was very moving. Also would love yr reaction to Gladiator: Hans Zimmer The Band of HM Royal Marines. This was performed at Horse Guards Parade for one of the annual Beating of Retreat ceremonies. Promis you will love it. You can imagine gladiators 😉
I am a Yorkshire man an English man and a Britain, and no one on earth can do ceremonies like the British

I'm Scottish and very proud to be part of this great nation - I found it heartwarming to watch your reaction to our tradition and ceremonies.

Since the 'country' is never named, this can be applied to any group or nation that holds true to the spirit of the piece.
You ought to watch Luke Evans (the actor) singing this at the same festival in 2022. So moving.
As a Yorkshire man I Thank you for sharing this with us x 🇬🇧
This music was played for princess Diana Great Britain Funeral ,was in Tears watching it

No one does pomp and ceremony like we Brits.

Listen to it from a classical orchestra, you get the fullhorns, bells ,it brings a lump to my throat.
In my opinion, this should be England's national anthem. God Save the King should be reserved for British occasions.
When the country of Finland got it's independence they chose Vow To Me My Country as their national anthem.
That's interesting, I always thought that it was Finlandia. Thanks.
