Perhaps the "real" Great was in space together with Mazinkaiser and Tetsuya couldn't reach it in time?

its a common thing in og mecha anime that the robots bleed oil, its to make them feel more human, then theres the getter robot versions from armageddon which literally have pupils in their eyes that change in size depending on the situation, you can literally see pain, anger and confusion in their eyes sometimes, its also done in mazinger but in the shin mazinger zero manga

He would be mopping the floor with these guys, remember he took out an entire army of Doctor Hell's super robots single handedly, including the possessed Venus Ace in the first OVA and wasn't even touched. Pretty sure True GM was up on the space station just like Kaizer was getting the same upgrade treatment, Tetsuya needed a machine to fight so they pulled the Prototype out of storage/retirement to do so.
