    One of my favourite scenes in cinema. I especially love the shot where we go backwards and each level of the set is revealed. We start with seeing the characters singing (or lip-syncing), and then are shown that it is a recording studio a few seconds later. As we continue to go back it's revealed that this is as all a set and being recorded for a film. But then, as we go out even further and find it's for an audition. We also know that the audition itself is rigged so everything we see is done for show. Lynch is a true master and his reveal of each stage in the dolly shot is very well done. So much is revealed throughout it. I feel like you could connect this scene as a sort of commentary for the film as a whole.

    • @robpaprox
      @robpaprox 2 года назад +21

      What you said about the lip syncing and "everything we see is done for show" reminds me of the scene at Silencio. The MC tells the audience multiple times that what we are watching is "a tape recording... an illusion", and yet we cannot help but be entranced by each "performer" on stage, and fooled into believing that the guy is actually talking, the trumpet is actually being played, and that the vocalist is actually singing. Absolutely genius.

    • @sadasulna6056

    • @thiscorrosion900

      One of the primary themes of the film is that Hollywood "falsity" or illusion and all that, of course. We keep peeling back more and more layers but we never get to the
      center of this particular rotten onion! It's great. I just got the blu ray of the film and screened it again last night. A total creepy masterpiece. I didn't even know this song
      before the film came out, also a total masterpiece.

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 2 года назад +1

      There are some loose ends in these scenes, including the fact that I dunno who the main girl is here who is singing the song itself, and also, the actress that speaks later
      to Adam and tells him she's expecting to get the part, and that he'll be hearing from her manager day and night, etc. But those are red herrings I believe, since we know
      who will get the main part and Camilla does eventually, of course, in whichever "reality" we are talking about.

      Thought about that bit today...after watching the blu ray of the movie. Indeed Adam sees him at least one more time, you can see the Cowboy in his house at the end
      when he's announced his "marriage" to Camilla, walk by in the far distance there. Really sick. However, that doesn't appear (in the "logic" of the film) to be the same
      Adam and Camilla and Cowboy from the first half of the film. At least, superficially. Also, Adam doesn't seem to even react if he actually "sees" the Cowboy
      at that point in the film. I think the Cowboy is all another delusional fantasy or halluciation of the Diane/Betty character. Or something.

    This isn't Connie Francis. This is Connie Stevens. I'm not sure who the person up there singing is but the audio is Connie Stevens. You can't mistake her style of singing.

    It’s not a real David Lynch movie unless he works in a song like this. 😄

    This happened with rihanna. She was supposed to be one of a trio of singers (destinys child type), but when she got into the room, they all knew she was going to be the star and launched her as a solo singer. The other two girls were left behind. Did not stand a chance.
