  • Turns out lobsters (Homarus americanus) are really weird. Here are 5 reasons why:
    1) Lobsters can re-grow their limbs
    2) Female lobsters are soft-bodied when they mate
    3) They pee out of their head
    4) They communicate with their pee
    5) They smell with their feet

    5 reasons I think humans are super weird. 1: Humans are hairless, unlike most mammals that have hair for protection humans have forgone that for clothing, it's more efficient and takes less energy. 2: Humans walk upright. 3: Humans have sweat glands all over their body and not localized as in dogs. 4: Humans have weak muscles, countered by high intelligence and endurance. 5: Humans' gate and breathing aren't tied together, humans can breathe at different rates from their walking cycle. Other animals can't do this and will collapse if they don't rest. Humans can control their breathing during a run. BTW excellent first videos, keep it up.

      Thanks RebelBeamMaster I'm glad you are liking it so far. These are some great weird human facts. I never knew that is was unusual to be able to control our breathing while running!

    I found your channel through Name Explain, and I honestly like it. However, the style of your videos is a bit... Boring. I feel like I'm watching a middle school biology presentation. I think your channel could do a lot better if you'd be able to grab more of the attention of the listener.

      Thanks for the feedback! We have been busy working and testing ways to get better underwater video so that we can have more exciting visuals. Hopefully that will help make them more engaging. Do you find the content too scientific or is it the delivery of the content? Would love to hear any suggestions you have as it will help us make better videos in the future. We have another on the way that is a little different then the others videos.

    What happened to the lobster in the video?

    • @DivingWithMatt
      @DivingWithMatt  7 лет назад +7

      We purchased this lobster from the grocery store so unfortunately we ate him... He was delicious!The local lobster industry here is sustainable and actually a healthy seafood industry. It extremely illegal to take live lobsters out of the ocean here with out a license or out of season, or the wrong size. So we decided to get one from the grocery store and made sure it was kept moist between takes and shot as fast as possible. Which is why there is not as much B-roll footage as we would have liked.

    is it true that lobster is immortal ?

    • @DivingWithMatt
      @DivingWithMatt  7 лет назад +4

      Unfortunately this is a common misconception. It stems from the fact that lobsters don't show typical signs of aging. For example lobsters grow and reproduce throughout their entire life.
      This was one fact I considered adding to this video, maybe I will do a part two at some point or a common misconceptions video.
      Great question!

    How long can they be out of water for and survive?

    • @DivingWithMatt
      @DivingWithMatt  6 лет назад +2

      Lobsters are actually able to breathe to a certain extent out of water as long as they're in a moist environment where their gills can stay wet. If this is the case they can easily survive over 24 hours out of water.

    If a pheromone is just a chemical used to communicate, is ink a pheromone?🤔
    Also, thanks to Name Explain for sending me to this channel.

    • @DivingWithMatt
      @DivingWithMatt  7 лет назад

      Sorry I think my definition was a bit of an oversimplification. A pheromone usually refers to a chemical secreted by an animal as a means of social communication between another member of the same species. So while, squids secrete ink it is used as more of a defense mechanism that for communication.
      Hope that clarifies!

    • @Kalobi
      @Kalobi 7 лет назад

      The Abyss Actually, I meant ink that humans use to write letters and thereby communicate, but apparently that joke was so stupid it didn't come across. That happens.
