- #TheOffice is one of the greatest shows of the 2000s! I'm giving some background, trivia, the deeper meaning, and more. Today, we're looking at the #Traveling #Salesmen episode.
Traveling Salesmen is the first part of a two-part arc in the midst of season 3. It has some great moments! The Jim/Dwight smack is great, Andy seeding doubt in Michael about Dwight, Pam saying "I wish you were like this all the time."; there is just so much to love.
Special Request (If anyone reads this): Where should I put Andy floating next?

Love all the different duos in this episode and how they each approach their sale in their own ways
Ryan trying to give his pitch was one of the funniest moments in the entire show
HI! HI! HI!
Stanley FTW!
Dwight and Jim's sales pitch and lead up to it was absolutely brilliant and it always makes this episode worth it.
it annoys me that jim is the assistant manager in this season...he acts like the clear younger brother this entire episode to dwight ...it makes no sense with their titles for him to act this way when just 3 eps earlier he used his power to exept dwight's during the party war...now he is back to season 2 jim who is under dwight..no consistency which is why i would have jim be under dwight this season cause dwight was made assistant manager in season 2 so its not been that long and jim left so mike sees him as lesser and then it makes more sense for andy to switch his anger from jimal the way back at stamford to dwight cause now hes the one in charge in the new branch... and then have jim gain that title and be on top the next year...just what I think ...it ruins the story that jim is the assistant manager this season cause andy has no reasons to get dwight fired over jim...he legit just showed up and met dwight.....but he does it anyways...which is bad writing
It is nice to see characters actually do their job.
I think Stanley knew what he was doing when he picked Ryan and the location of the sales call. He was thrilled when Ryan wanted to take the lead. It was revenge for when he thought Ryan was hitting on his 13 year old daughter.
not really. Stanley just wanted to do his crossword puzzles lol
Stanley was going to get the sale anyways. He just wanted Ryan to make a fool out of himself
@@Robman0908 Right. I also think that was why Michael started to despise Andy in this episode. All the other teams made the sale, and it would've been a done deal if not for Andy being Andy.
The vacuum story Chris conjured up is absolutely true. I was there. I was the vacuum.
You've (accidentally?) hinted at how Angela finally gets even with Andy with the Beach Games clip - we see his gloating talking head as shown here, but cutting to a lividly quiet Angela in the background in the show. I'm not the only fan who reacted with certainty that she'll get even for him forcing Dwight out of his job, and I always thought of her wiseacre-like allowing Andy to float away in Beach Games as her ultimate revenge.
Absolutely! Good catch! I love her playing coy. "I don't understand."
@@Mulverine she did also screw his money and time up during the fake engagement arc...she took the expensive ring so...that kinda sucks...
This episode is good but nowhere near as good as your wife’s amazing prank lol
I'll pass that on to her! She'll be happy she has a fan.
I wanna hear more funny stories about Mulverine and the weird vacuum salesmen.
That’s...an odd prank for your wife to play without filming it or something. You left work early to come assist her, some kid wouldn’t get out of your home. And it was just the two of them in on it? So did she pay him? Not saying it’s bad. That’s just incredibly elaborate and it seems like a huge chunk of time to trick one individual without an audience.
Ahhhhh. I was the only audience she needed the satisfaction of watching. Lol. I have an office job that I can leave and work from home as needed, and it was towards the end of the day already.
I love how Jim asks Karen if Pam said anything. It’s like he is trying to find out if she still likes him.
Pushy salespeople are the actual worst, but traveling salespeople inherently are interrupting whatever their mark is doing on that day. I used to answer phones for an office and had to shut down a number of rude and pushy sales people who were intent on forcing their way through the door. Like, I just want to get through my work day without being yelled at by my boss. Leave me alone, dude!
trivia: fart and monkey
Dwights Pre-Sale ritual with Kick Start My Heart always gets me same with Jims reaction to it after many times we didnt see prior xD
I always bring up any of the sales calls when I have to defend why the office is so great. You'd look at Michael and say this show is dumb and hard to believe someone this stupid could be a great salesman and manager. But when youre shown Michael making a sale...you realize just how great he actually is at his job. Great writing
YES! And in the usual Office setting Dwight and Jim rarely get along with each other but in this episode when the have to go do a sale, they make the perfect sales team. Brilliant episode.
The company he's talking about is Aeris I actually worked for them and developed their marketing strategy for their water purifier division. The salesmen are told 7 nos before a yes meaning the customer will tell you they don't wanna buy it at least 7 times before they say yes, that's why he didn't leave after you told them no over and over. And yes they start at 3,400 So when they drop the price it makes you feel like it's a huge savings. The vacuum is cost about $150 to manufacture the distributor that the salesman works for buys them for 300, When a salesman sells 1 the distributor gets 5-700 and the salesmen keeps whatever the rest is. You can literally make a fortune doing it and some people are very good at it but it's Basically predatory
A little bit of trivia, but one of the things Michael gets the computer to say in the cold opening is a quote from "The 40 year old virgin".
"Me so horny, me love you long time" which is one of the sayings Steve Carrel's character makes up when he is being interrogated by his coworkers about what's the dirtiest thing a girl has said to him in bed
Nice! I think the original quote is from Full Metal Jacket, but I didn’t make the Carrel connection!
@@Mulverine It's not only a quote from FMJ but that sound bite was part of a HUGE rap song in the early 90s. It definitely did not originate with 40-year-old virgin, but I can't blame someone for first hearing it there. (Rather like all the people who think The Office came up with "That's what she said!").
For the uninitiated, the line is spoken by a Vietnamese prostitute trying to lure in the American soldiers. She repeats it over and over again, making it clear it's the only English she knows, and clearly not really meaning it. There's...a lot of connotations in the use of it.
Could creed's shirt that Jim got from him is the same shirt Deven's wearing in the Halloween episode where he lost his job?
Andy made me so angry in this episode, I have a hard time watching it. He really goes out of his way to sabotage Dwight, right down to getting his car keys and going into his car to get the parking ticket. That's just low. And I also agree with you on the rating, an ok episode, not the best but some good moments. Great review!
i don't get why andy went after dwight when jim is the actual assistant regional manager....i get dwight is above the others and not really under jim cause he is close with mike so he is in his own kinda side of hierarchy doin things for mike but andy acts like he has jim's position power and must take him out?...its so wrong...he just arrived....wtf?...and why does he need to do so anyways as if getting rid of dwight will make andy closer to being manager?..it makes little sense...again go after jim..or how about you just sell paper and stop going after others you just met and maybe you will become manager lol..andy is so stupid...and evil for no reason....why does he have to get rid of dwight to take his place?...other than for t.v. drama....gotta make him look bad I guess...
@@razkable Andy is a suck up, and wants to get close to the boss, and Dwight is already Michael's right hand man so I guess it makes sense to go after him? Three is a crowd, so by getting rid of Dwight, he can now be Michael's right hand man. But it still makes me mad, I really hated Season 3 Andy.
@@dm9489 yeah but again it is really petty for him to take dwight out just cause he and mike are actually friends outside of work...they have worked together for years and built that friendship.....andy just got there so what did he expect?.....its so petty..and so dumb...this i why i had no issue with dwight sleeping with angela and her using andy's money never really wanting to marry him and dwight spraying andy in the eyes with pepper spray or leaving him for dead in the water during beach games....andy deserves so much worse...lets be real
@@dm9489 again take out jim then cause hes the closest to mike's position...its absurd to take out dwight unless the writers want us to hate him..or just sell paper
@@dm9489 i liked andy for the first 8 episodes of season 3..then he got on my nerves until like season 6
The stock footage lmao
Fr great video tho!
It was touch and go putting that all together.
Mulverine yeah understandable, it definitely made your video more unique though! Keep bringing variety to your analysis of the episodes
Dwight Kurt Shrute Angela Noelle Martin
i never understood why stanley chose ryan over jim...other than to humiliate him....which he only did cause ryan offered to do it alone lol...how could he have known ryan would say that?...
I got my last vacuum for 65 bucks on Amazon. Anyone spending more than 150 is getting jipped
Always liked this one. And Dwight's departure and the hug was great. The cracks you see in his façade were great.
This was great!! 📈🍾🥂🏄
That vacuum salesman story is entirely believable. That basically happened to my grandparents several years ago.
Loved the story man!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I didn’t see the link to your slapping compilation in the description
Oh weird...It's there. (Now it is at least! Thanks!)
Mulverine thanks!
Dwight fart shrute 🤣. If you know you know 😜
I think Angela wants their relationship to be a secret because she will lose her perceived leverage to judge people. She puts it aside to spite him after the death of Sprinkles and once the veil is lifted, she just deals with it going forward.
And the irony of Karen being viewed as this strong, independent woman when she’s actually a follower during her entire time in Scranton. She doesn’t establish anything of her own while she’s there. Aside from her not actually being Pam, Jim is probably turned off a bit by her constant passiveness. She will just tolerate anything that he does. She actually comes off a bit like a woman that has never had a serious relationship before.
to me angela is shallow..thats it..she wants roy..she can't have roy..so she takes it out on pam....then roy is single and shes with dwight ...then she feels guilt and can't be with roy cause of what she did to dwight aka first creating that rip in mike and dwight's bond in the coup that dwight built up for years and then getting him fired with her tax mistake....it would be wrong for her to hit on roy now after all that over dwight a guy who was there for her when she was alone....she is too shallow for me..just suck it up...she is ok with her and andy being an item in the office but not her and dwight?..and then cheating on him and not telling the truth to him despite everyone knowing lol..she is such trash from that pov...
Was it a Kirby?? I was a traveling salesman for like 2 weeks. I hated it & was never paid.
Oop, it was a prank 😂
I love this episode long tim.
I believe it's this episode which has an unfortunate deleted scene. In it, Andy talks to Karen about how all the Stanford people have been eliminated one-by-one, and he's determined to be the one that remains. (This ties in with the Chocolate Factory singing.) His acting is pretty good, making the point as he names objects after their former coworkers then pushing them off the table. I wish it had been left in because it spells out his fears for his own career and why he's taking the measures he does.
Been watching you for ages now. You put the Office Ladies to shame.
I mean, it’s literally the same show, lol.
Great channel man hope you grow a lot man
This is what i have to say. I love your channel. Subscribed!
Thanks! Tell your friends! 👌👌
O(n!)
You will be done with the entire show by February 2023. Be prepared
I'm in it for the long haul. I'm going to work my best to get ahead of these so that I could potentially do two a week at some point.
Mulverine Can’t wait for it!
Andy during that whole sales call was so cringe.
Im honestly surprised Michael didn't drag him out of there and deal with him like he dealt with his nephew
what's the name of the song that danced like crazy the person with glasses?
Dwight and Angela's middle names are Kurt and Noell
I love that Michael puts a fez on his computer to make it talk
your wife is incredible xD
I'm astounded that you didn't call the cops on that kid after he refused to leave the first time. Seeing him freak out trying to convince you it was just a prank would've been funny.
He wasn't in on the prank! My wife just left me high and dry with this guy. I'm naturally a de-escalator, so I wouldn't have called the police unless it was getting out of hand.
i’m pretty sure if he said “you need to leave right now. get out of my house” the kid would’ve left. his politeness was just leaving the door open for the kid to stay and keep talking (not criticizing the politeness i would’ve done the same)
Ok, Jim was pretty cruel in this episode. Both of his pranks on Dwight were physical. He intentionally abruptly stops the car, pushing Dwight forward who bangs his head on the backrest, and when they arrive, Jim slaps Dwight.
This channel is so underrated
editing is 10/10, keep it up!
These episodes in the playlost are all out of order
I've been having such an issue with getting this right for some reason! Thanks for the comment. I hope it's fixed now!
@@Mulverine yeah i literally finished watching the video and then i go back to the playlist to go back earlier to the next correct video but you had fixed the order in only 10 minutes since i asked. Such due diligence to fans, thank you
I don't see Dwight looking at the camera. I feel he's looking up.
Hahahahaa is there a deeper meaning to the trivia segment's title card looking like a certain fascist flag?
5:00 - 8:30
That’s 3 and a half minutes I’ll never get back. 👎🏻
Yup babe
