@@JL0ndon that would have probably happened if we think of all the Aretha and Patti tributes that took place in the 90s, it would've been legendary to say the least
the voice of an absolute god sent angel...if u don't know the depth of her music and talent get to know....she achieved sooo much in her short life...I love you minnie
She was such a beautiful person. Her last album was amazing and she so loved her kids. She mentioned both of them on the album cover..I'm sure she saved a lot of young women from cancer.
Her mom lived to be 94 and her father lived to be 92. Minnie Riperton died at the age of 31 from breast cancer. Sometimes life just doesn’t make any sense, and we come up with the short end of the stick. That’s just the way it goes.
Wow, I never knew this. Her story is sooo heartbreaking. I just want to cry about it. I can’t help but wonder was the breast cancer hereditary or something because she was just soooo young to have gotten breast cancer.
She died in 1979 of breast cancer so she had the diagnosis in this Interview but wasn't quite ill yet.. She was such a beautiful person inside and out.
She had already been diagnosed, had a Mastectomy then told the Cancer had spread to her lymph nodes and she only had 6months to live before this Interview. She lived for 3yrs then died in July 12,1979.
@@naturalkinkycurlymarie7496 That's the most painful part of this interview. You can see the sorrow in her as she holds it all in. Everyone is like you had this mastectomy, wow. They did not know that she had a follow-up death prognosis.
What an incredible amount of wonderful things Minnie crammed into just 31 short years. Even so many years after she passed away her astonishing legacy is still going strong.
It doesn't make any sense when a beautiful and very gifted woman, like Minnie is taken so young by the Beast that is Breast Cancer. She had an adoring husband and 2 children who loved her very much. She was an angel here on Earth long before she ascended into Heaven. In this interview, I can FEEL her sadness and it's heartbreaking because I am a 15 year BC "survivor" and I wish I had a fraction of the love and support that I think she had. In this life, it's not about how long your life is, it's about the quality of each day and living it to the fullest. XX
life seems so unfair at times, to think of all she could have become if only she had more time here with us is heartbreaking, but to also think of the legend she managed to become despite sadly not having had much time on earth is truly unbelievable, may she rest in Peace, she's Up There with the greatests💔🕊
Well I am glad that you did anyway. More people should know Minnie's beautiful music which I listen to a lot. Her voice never ceases to amaze me and provokes a whole range of emotions in me. That's what music should do. I can remember hearing the news that poor Minnie had died, on the radio, back when I was 11 years old. Here in UK I don't think we knew too much about her illness so it was even more of a shock. The true angels don't stay with us for long.
Wow I didn't even know she was the mother of Maya! I just happened to look up Mini from an info commercial from Time Life music for '70s Superstars. And I saw that she died so Young. So sad. Good info you gave
From what I have heard, her husband IS a man, when that Lion went after her--the trainer was out to lunch--in the back of the room and it was her husband who got there first--as it should be. THAT is love, "I don't care how big you are--you are not hurting her". I'm glad she knew that kind of love. My gosh, what a sweet woman--and such a voice, and not just talent, you choices, her diction--I can hear every word she sings--young singers can learn from her.
Once he brought up the Mastectomy, then there's that sadness. But the hosts didn't know that the mastectomy had not cured her cancer which she had found out had spread elsewhere and was now a death sentence. They thought it was a victory story, but she was carrying a death sentence. She was so strong. Makes this interview heartbreaking
She died two years later 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 The year I was born. Amazing, been a fan of hers for 20 years since a DJ friend played me a reissue of her and Rotary but never watched any videos of her. Check out her daughter in Idiocracy 😄
31 is incredibly, abnormally young to die of breast cancer. That means she would've been diagnosed in her 20's! If I were her children I would get tested for the BRCA gene mutation for sure. Maybe they have, I don't know. Just so unfair that all the sweet, genuine people seem to die so young.
@Sw1zT1m3 You certainly are alert! Yes that is Ben Vereen who co-hosted with Mike that day Sept 23 1977. Never even noticed him til I read your comment. You have a good eye my friend!
"...maybe one day I will be... I'm young"... so sad to hear her say that... .Two years later she would be gone..... so, so sad....
I had never seen this interview before. When I heard her say that, I actually cried. Geez! Gone gone way too soon.
She showed courage & dignity while fighting her disease. She was taken from her loving family far too soon! 🙏
Just makes me wonder how the music world would have shaped if she was present through the decades. RIP Minnie. Love your daughter. Hell of a comedian
Could you imagine if she and Mariah Carey did a duet in the early 90s?!

The Mike Douglas show is under appreciated in his showcasing a wide range of talent but also providing incredible personal interviews.
