Judy is an absolute legend and hearing her speak about one of my favorite movies, Easter Parade, is a joy. She's hilarious! Just love her! Great upload, thank you! :)
Judy Garland was a wonderful, kind and very sweet lady. Shame on those Hollywood moguls who preyed on her and filled her full of drugs. Her voice was pure heaven. We will aways love you, Judy.
People don't realize that a singer, especially a great singer isn't always in the best of voice. She gave 1000% to her audiences and when a person is a real singer, they not only sing the song but they tell a story with the ability to connect with those listening. She had personal problems and a very rough life, surrounded by many people only out for themselves and looked at her not as a person but a commodity. Hollywood is a cruel town especially when she grew up in the spotlight.
On a Sunday the 22nd of June 1969, The World woke up to the News of Judy Garland's death. The news sent shock waves across the entire planet & for the 7 days the media paid homage to " A Great Lady who had the Ultimate Interview"! Judy, Your fans still mourn your passing. I have the comfort of knowing your spirit was embraced by GOD & that HE showed you HIS infinite peace & all that heaven has too offer you. U brought a lot of joy to me & I thank God for creating you. RIP on this 6/22/10
Just read a biography on Judy. What a vibrant soul that persevered through tragedy. I watched the biopic on her and it was horrendous. They did not do her justice. shame
When you think about all the greats, it's hard to categorize her. She was a great (underrated) actress. A great singer. Maybe there are greater actresses or singers, but I think most people agree, Judy was the greatest performer of the Twentieth Century. The greatest talent. Anybody care to differ? I don't think any one person encompassed all the power she did, in all the areas she did, and had the effect on the audience that she did. Sock it to me. Prove me wrong. I'm up for a debate.
@@TrangPakbaby - Judy's acting in her last movie "I Could Go On Singing" was fabulous and spellbinding. The hospital scene where she damaged her ankles was amazing. So intensely emotional.
I would choose living in current times over the nostalgia for the past. Life is easier now and way better if you’re a female or a minority, although we have ways and ways to go.
Judy has the most wonderful laugh! She's so cute! I wanna have film stories one day. I wanna be an actress, it seems so fun to sit and talk about being on set. I've always wanted to be an actress since I was little. And seeing all these amazing Classic Hollywood stars rienforces that and it makes me wish things were still the same too. These days, you have remakes, sequels and 3D left and right. Anyone notice that movies back then had no sequels and there were barely any remakes?
Judy Garland I love you I always love you the rest of my life God bless you wherever you are now and I mean that from my heart which I have known you you're beautiful singer somewhere over the rainbow always hit my heart very happy
Just the fact that she achieved *so much* one forgets that she was dead at 47 I think she has to be up there with people like Diaghilev, Stravinski, Picasso, Duke Ellington as one of the geniuses of the 20th Century
@msGarlandGirl I agree with you totally. These people who feel the compulsion to spread rumors about a person they never met and add to all the hype that already surrounds this Legend amazes me to no end. If you dont like her then don't watch the clips. She was a human being & never did anything but please those around her with her talent. It says a lot about a person who could bad mouth someone who has passed on. It says they are ignorant fools & shows their parents didnt raie them correctly.
I’m glad she decided to design that dress for herself. Too many people seemed to be telling her what to do with herself all her life and she just said that’s enough I want to design this and I will. I also wish people were nicer to her.
Judy was funny - a brilliant dramatic actress, Fred Astaire came out of retirement to dance with her, and no question one of the greatest singers Lucille ball found her such a great comedy talent she said "next to Judy Garland I'm a mortician" Sinatra would definitely be on my list too - but who else comes close to Garland just in sheer range? It was like it was effortless for her to excel at anything she did
Have you ever noticed that people who are used and abused never seem to realise they are being used and abused? And when they break free of one abusive relationship, they seem to go into another abusive relationship?
as much as i think she is amazing and we are lucky to have her as a screen legend, but i wish she had had a normal life with a happy childhood and loving family... especially mother... away from the drugs and all
hard to believe that was "Dorothy Gale"... God bless & continue to be at peace up there since you couldn't here... This world was much to cruel to you...
It's funny when she says "I thought we made more than one picture together" - Peter was a bit player (not even sure if he had a line ) in "Girl Crazy" - I wonder if she was remember that but couldn't place it. Today we have videos and can watch these movies at the drop of a hat - but in 1968 you either caught it on the late show, or in most cases, when it was originally released - so it's easy to understand how details got foggy. Fantastic video. Thanks for posting
A wonderful entertainer, Ms Garland’s place in history was well deserved. While she is very charming in this interview, and is in better shape than she usually was in the final years of her life, she sounds somewhat high, her words are slurred. It is Crystal clear the drug use has affected her mind. It is fine to respect an artist, but many commentators here ignore that she clearly was on a downward spiral. It is sad to see how everyone pretends she was normal here, when she looks way older than her years and seems to be intoxicated. The comments here also mostly ignore that . Rest in peace, Ms Garland, and thanks for sharing your memories.
Absolutely ! A few yrs ago a poll put Sinatra at top of list as greatest entertainer of 20th century. Maybe, but I think the poll probably reflected younger generations too, and Judy's been gone for 55 yrs and not as well known to them. In fact, I read once that Sinatra himself said Judy was in his opinion the greatest of the 20th century.

After Summer Stock (1950) Judy was scheduled to make Royal Wedding costarring Fred Astaire with Peter Lawford as her love interest. Fred Astaire was playing her brother, and they were to have been a brother and sister performing team. However, she was fired from the film and replaced by Jane Powell, who had the film romance with Lawford in the picture. Except for Lafword's one line in Girl Crazy (1943), Easter Parade was the only movie the two made together.
Peter Lawford sure looks handsome in his mature years. He seems to have led a tragic life. Maybe not on the epic level as Judy (but who has?), but still sympathetic.
My observations are based on "Peter Lawford: The Man Who Kept Secrets," by James Spada, and other biographies. The following is the blurb for the Spada book. Feel free to draw your own conclusions. "Beneath the glamour of his movie-star life, his fairy-tale marriage, and his legendary friends, lived a man beset by childhood demons that would lead him into alcohol, drugs, shocking sexual escapades--and a controversial role in the cover-up of Marilyn Monroe's death."
Interesting that she says she thinks she and Peter made more than one movie together (3:40); he is actually in GIRL CRAZY, with one line; one scene, and the camera doesn't even single him out; so he probably only worked for one day on that picture, and that could be what she is thinking about. When they did this program, you couldn't just pull out those old movies on video or CD's; it was the late show on TV, or a revival theatre, or nothing. It would not be uncommon for them not to have not seen those films for twenty five years... so it's easy to understand how they could have forgotten.
