    Swastika victories transferred from pilots WWII mustang to National Guard H model for plubicity & recruiting. These two did an outstanding job to restore for static display.

    He said to make it look like a functioning engine. In other words, it does not work, and can't fly. Should have been made operational.

    This P51H was transferred to the Museum of Aviation in 2015 so it can still be admired by all. A superb static restoration is important as it doesn't sit in boxes waiting for parts and big funding. It also is not at risk by being flown. This P-51H really is an endangered species so this certainly is the best use of limited time and money. A job well done!

    I went to the USAF aircraft structural repair school there in 1975 (Chaunte AFB ) I was on my way home from Ohio (2015) and ended up real close to Chanute so I got off the highway to go see the base. I found out it had been closed down. I just wanted to see where I had learned the craft of sheet metal that has allowed me to build my own airplane. And now building an other..............

    the air force sold one of their P47's on static display here in San Antonio with an agreement that something else would be substituted. It had been sitting outside for decades and required extensive work to be sure, but @ least it will fly again.

    i remember reading some where the air force came with a saw and cut the dash out to removed the instruments that had radium in them they show no mercy to this very rare bird i can understand why they want them back but to saw them out ?

    Got to fly in the late Bill Hogans P51H in 1975. A graduation present from my dad. Bill did his airshow with me in the back seat.
    That aircraft is now owned by the Whititing bros and Ive heard its in the EAA museum.

    • @fastone942
      @fastone942 6 лет назад +2

      this one is in good shape but still belongs to the Air Force so flying it or selling it not going to happen in fact a few years ago the Air Force came and cut on all the flight instruments because of the radium on the face of them for want i can remember this was a I/A aircraft at the end of it life to train new tech the H models where taking out of service before the D model there was not parts for them try may look like D model but a lot of parts are not the same

      Incorrect. The H model saw no combat with any group during WW@ or Korea. It never served with the 332nd "Red Tails".

  • @BlackKnight1586
    @BlackKnight1586 6 лет назад +1

    They should have checked, they would have found that you should not paint the exhaust as it will burn. I have never seen a 51 with painted exhaust. Also there were no H's in WW2 so the Swastika emblems would not be realistic.

    • @g.c.1956
      @g.c.1956 6 лет назад +1

      Per the video, they replicated the paint scheme of a post-war H model flown by a colonel who painted his H model in his WWII D model scheme. He flew the H around to recruiting events.
