  • How to fix a Flexi leash without screws. All other videos say there are screws on the side, but mine doesn't have any. I hope this helps everyone else with a broken Flexi leash. If you need any more help, feel free to comment!
    Thanks for watching and have a great day!

    Brilliant fix. Just a couple of tips from my experience. Avoid removing the large wheel - it will detach the main spring! But if you do this by mistake you can re-attach it - just make sure the end of the spring fits down the centre of the spindle. Rewind the wheel anticlockwise - against the pressure of the spring - without winding the tape/cord of the lead onto the spool - as many turns as you can. Then slowly release the tension of the spool to wind on the lead - avoiding twists in the tape.

      Watch out - if you will rewind the wheel anticlockwise "as many turns as you can", you will end up with a broken spring as it just happened to me - so do not follow this - it is I dictated to rewind anticlockwise just 2 or 3 turns - you have to feel some average tension in the spring, but do not force that to maximum as @paintboxpash said.

      @@somebodyelseme1526 It's a while since I did the procedure, but I wasn't suggesting you "force" the mechanism. Obviously you have to apply some feel to the situation.

    This helped a ton. I was confounded by the lack of screws on mine. Your video gave me the confidence to just pry it open, carefully. My wife sewed the leash back together on her sewing machine. My only issue remaining is that when I put it back together, I did not have enough tension. I will take it apart again and try to get that right, but even with less tension, it still works and is better than buying a new leash. Already took our puppy out for a walk with it. Just need to make sure he does not bite through it again!

    Great video, thank you. This morning our dog succeeded in gnawing through the leash about 0.2m from the end, and my reactions were far too slow to prevent the super-efficient spring mechanism from rewinding the remaining 4.8m (including the chewed-off end) safely inside the handle. One suggestion, which I only discovered after making a fair amount of cosmetic damage to the plastic casing, is that there's a slot below the handle that's just wide enough to take the prongs of a claw hammer: using the hammer head as a lever made the dismantling process even easier.

Once disassembled I found the lead had gotten stuck under the knot that sacred the lead to the retractable wheel.

    Use a steel ruler as a pry to open the case. It can be opened without any damage. A screwdriver works, but it will likely cause damage to the casing.

    Sometimes the dog can get his teeth into the last foot or so of the leash. I’ve had this happen a couple of times. I bring it to my shoemaker and he cuts off the worn part and reattaches the metal clip with strong stitching. The one thing I would suggest is to make sure the plastic housing sides are secure when you close it up again. I think I will put some black tape around the edge of the handle to help keep the shell together as I’m not sure if it’s as secure as it was before I opened it. Thanks for making this video

    I've been mulling over how to make a good dual flexi leash. My idea was to split two open and 3D print a spacer that will fit between the two halves, with their handles cut down. The spacer would have the handle, and once I get that far I'll have to come up with a a new way to work the triggers. Anyway, I started disassembling like this, but didn't want to total the main leash I use for walks, so thanks for the great video! Now I know how to disassemble and what to expect. This project of mine seems more plausible now :)

Once I've opened the leash I have found the problem- the white (triggered controlled) plastic part that stops the leash from extending by locking into the reel is broken. • @janne639
      @janne639 Год назад

      I would say open it up again and start from scratch, putting more tension on the rewind spring (not the spring that locks/unlocks the rewind mechanism). It's far better to under-wind it than to injure yourself or damage the mechanism by over-tightening it.

    • @kolbevilla
      @kolbevilla  5 лет назад

      Just knot the slack end of the leash to the ring on the clasp. Or, if you can sew, you might consider sewing it back together. That would be more secure.

    • @johncrabtree5048
      @johncrabtree5048 4 года назад +1

      I had a leather sleeve bit covering the joined areas right near the metal clasp. I cut that off and removed the bit of leash remaining. Then I threaded the main leash back through once and went through the metal clasp. Then I went back through the leather sleeve like thing and tied off with a square knot. The leather sleeve bit makes it more secure. Next I'll try using a lighter to melt a little of the broken leash piece. If it melts then I'll melt the trailing end of the square knot so it won't unravel.

      But if the spring is broken, pup out the center piece to expose the spring, be careful that spring don't leave it's housing, it could cause a severe damage to you, wear safety glass, and long sleeve shirt in case spring come loose,
      With a plier make a hoop and engage it with center slotted post,
      By inserting it in the slot,
      Then follow the video to install
      The rest

      If yours has pins, just hold onto the line to maintain tension while you push each pin back into place. If yours has screws, it may be easier to have someone else hold the line while you screw the halves back together.

    Well all I gained out of this video was how to open, disassemble, reassemble and close the unit. Nothing related to the broken fabric part of the leash where the fabric was chewed. Did you replace the entire fabric portion with a new length, or did you repair the end that got chewed off by removing the metal hooking device from the damaged part and attaching it to the portion not damaged? After watching this I learned nothing about how to repair the fabric portion that was damaged. In my opinion, this video did not address the damaged leash fabric at all. Also no explanation at the beginning about what was going to be fixed.

  • @maddy4paws
    @maddy4paws 3 месяца назад

    Throw it away. You tied a knot in it, it could easily break under pressure. The whole case now could crack open. Your dog runs off with the leash bouncing after him-or it snaps and the end hits you in the face or worse. Oh , and you won't be able to sue as you violated the warranty.
    Flexi leashes are dangerous-get a long web training leash and coil it in your hand-10 to 15 ft is planty.
    Stupid-but stupid to use these anyway-they are not safe and teach your dog to pull by giving constant tension. You do no have real control of your dog. It's a tape measure. Go buy a leash!

      Then I'm lucky it did teach me how to fix the leash, because it did.

    • @vikingcove
      @vikingcove Год назад

      It taught me how to separate the halves -- just what I needed. I've fixed tape measures before. That and lots of other fixing things and a positive attitude enabled me to re-attach the spring when I pulled the reel off the center post (Don't do that), wind the leash on, wind the reel about 3 turns of tension, and squeeze the halves back together (with the help of a bench vise with soft jaws). The knot I used to tie the leash back together is called a water knot -- very good for flat webbing, and pretty simple. The leash works well again, with a knot reminding me to not (pun noted) leave our dog on the leash unattended.
