I agree with both of your statements. I lost a great aunt and great uncle, that I was very close too, to a drunk driver. I have no sympathy for anyone who drinks and drives and knowing this is her third offense, she definitely deserves life. Having a hard upbringing doesn't excuse drinking and driving and taking a life

As an italian police officer, I find this judge so empathetic. In Italy drunk drivers responsible for killing people in car accidents hardly ever go to jail, due to a whole lenient system which often justifies the defendant and doesn't take enough care of the victim. This judge's explanation of her decision, her profound intelligence and preparation, demonstrate how strict and balanced at the same time a sentence can be. Thanks and much respect for this woman.

She'll have some time left in life to redeem herself to a greater or lesser extent and do some good in life, while the young boy has no chance of that thanks to her reckless, self-centered behavior. Alcohol has ruined so many lives I understand prohibition but I also understand why you can't ban it and unfortunately it all comes down to personal accountability. Equals unfortunate at the same time as the fact that many people don't think to begin with let alone after they start drinking. My little brother's close friend was paralyzed by drunk driver at Penn State College, all avoidable life-changing events that cause lifelong sadness. It all breaks my heart, I'm guilty of it too when I was younger and finally immature enough to realize how stupid I was and how lucky I was not to hurt anyone besides myself in one instance. Is all breaks my heart I just hope there's a nice place were the innocent and kind-hearted go after this life but that's a whole another tangent, I just hope one day people can all find peace together without these stupid avoidable accidents at the hands of someone who's not thinking

In fact, they are not in a position to forgive her, because the only person who was truly wronged is dead and incapable of doing so, or not.

How do you know she is a Christian? And what makes a Christian any better than anyone else? Nothing. The Christian ‘god’ murdered a man for picking up sticks. That ‘god’ issued a law saying a father can sell his daughters into slavery. That ‘god’ issued another law stating if a girl doesn’t yell loud enough while being raped then she must be stoned to death. And another of that ‘god’s’ 613 laws says if a man rapes a girl the man isn’t punished, the victim is. That law states the girl must be forced to marry the rapist and be raped the rest of her life. That ‘god’ is the most immoral invention of primitive, barbaric, ignorant, superstitious and anonymous men in history. How anyone could be Christian and worship that deplorable, sick god is baffling. Oh yeah, Christians don’t even read that damned Bible. They have no idea what’s in it. They are only taught the simplistic children’s version and nothing about the sick immorality of that supposed god. Btw, there is ZERO evidence of that supposed ‘god’. There is zero contemporary evidence Jesus even existed. I’ve never known one Christian who even knows how the Bible was constructed, written, rewritten, edited and re-edited over 500,000 times. There are hundreds of versions of the Bible. There are countless translations of translations. It’s idiotic for anyone to believe that immoral book was the product of any god. The biblical god is an immoral invention of Bronze Age goat herders. It’s foolish and dishonest to believe what’s written in it and especially dishonest to say people who act decently and morally are ‘Christian’. Christian history is full of oppression, harm and murder. It’s a depraved cult and it’s sad anyone believes that utter nonsense. Read the ENTIRE Bible and stop living in delusion. Another thing. Christians make up about 90% of inmates in prisons. There are only 0.04% atheists in prison. So how can Christians say Christianity makes people better? It doesn’t. I bet even the driver who killed that boy claims to be Christian.

Say that about the previous judges, not this one. Up to 30 years with no credit is not a slap on the wrist. What sentencing were you watching?

Where did you get that? She never made excuses for her. She spoke the facts about drug abuse and gave her many years in prison. She’s doing the time.

This is not accountability. She gets basically a get out of jail after 12 years if someone feels sorry for her. She is 40 years old and still not being held accountable. If this was a 40 year old man this judge would not have been so compassionate. I am tired of watching women get off on these life sentences when they commit crimes they were fully capable of avoiding. After all these years of DUI's cases I have not seen women be awarded sentencing like men. Miss me with compassion. There should only be compassion for the victim. She basically will serve less time in jail than Lafferty was alive. This is BS.

I wonder how many lives could have been saved if the driver called 911 immediately instead of running? This was the defendants 3rd offense. She didn't value the 2 strikes she was given unfortunately.
