I drove an hour out to a local music shop to test this out today. I cannot logically explain how I left that store without this pedal. This is hands-down the gnarliest thing EarthQuaker has ever come out with.
Fuck you know what, forget having an instrument as your input, just throw this, a couple delays, and a phaser/flanger on a board with the EHX RTG and go fucking wild.
how about adding a compressor between the instrument and this pedal? should make it easier to track if you set the compressor to delete the little nuances and provide a more defined note by note input ...
I would love for Nick and Juan to interview Luca and Massimo from ZU and see how they utilize their effects! I think that would be an incredible interview.
I'm generally not much of a pedal user, in fact,I own three. Have a generic distortion, a early Big Muff and an old D'Armand volume / wah. But I really got into listening to some of the different sounds / levels The guys were getting into here.... From 30:38ish on, I feel like they really break through.. this is One of the best uses of this pedal imo. Although, it seems there's almost no end to the combinations That can be had, depending on the instrument(s) chosen to accompany/guide your trip,!!!
what is that small 5string bass Juan plays around 23:00? awesome vid btw. was great to see JP and Joey doing some demo-ing(?) as this is definitely down the Locusts alley. Great Job!
Bought this after 5 minutes in the store. It sounded wild. Its one flaw is that there is no control over the attack. Very harsh. Hooked up to a synth pedal with attack and decay controls, and it becomes more tame. I reccomend the EH Harmonic Octave Generator 2 ( HOG 2)
I wish I could put 5 thumbs up on this video! My guitarist is getting one and I'm going to have to invest one of these in my pedal lineup as well! Thank you very much for all of your videos! Pedals and Effects forever!
Juan, I dig your demos but do you ever try this stuff with active basses?? I'd love to hear it with one. Oh and I still owe you something. ;) I'll send it off soon.
Great energy in your review & inspiring. I've been watching this video on my laptop (with good headphones) like eight times with my creditcard and the iPad ready to order this pedal, thinking:'I really need to start a band where I can use this with my bass (together with all my other 'going synthy and beyond weird' pedals)...., ha! Bassists might have better results with flatwound strings and/or their tone knob all the way down, to get rid of most the overtones the bassguitar produces, right?
Is that EHX Van Halen pedal they're referring to the Micro-Synth? I traded my micro-synth in for this pedal and have no regrets. However it took owning this pedal for a little bit for me to even comprehend what these guys were talking about in this video!
John Poillucci They are referring to the actual synth they made in the 80s. Mini synth it was a literal synthesizer not a pedal. The Ehx synth 9 includes it as one of the models
I put a recifier circuit into a cheep distortion pedal and got a similar fuzz sound. Friggn difficult pedal not for beginners. I have plenty of weird pedals sounds like my homemade fuzz with sort of arpenoid n rainbow slightly. I like the old video game sounds I can get out of it might buy it tomorrow.
"You don't do this shit where you buy it..say ' I'm going to play fast, I'm gonna play some speed metal'" Sage advice! The reason why I let almost all my pedals PLAY me instead of vice-versa.
Anson Stiles not likely. This pedal and other pedals like it really are their own thing. I would compare the Great Divide to a more sophisticated bass micro synth.
While I'm watching this, I feel like I'm listening some Stephen Hawking interstellar string theory multiverse things and I don't know shit about it, but I want to, I really want to. You know, that tension in your head. :D
Can you guys talk more? I don't feel like there was enough talking. In fact, I don't want to hear what the pedal sounds like at all, just please more talking. Make the video an hour long while you're at it.
I want to thank you guys for actually demoing pedals properly instead of just playing blues licks like everybody else does
I drove an hour out to a local music shop to test this out today. I cannot logically explain how I left that store without this pedal. This is hands-down the gnarliest thing EarthQuaker has ever come out with.
Is it transparent?
If you connect it in the effects loop, then yes
It's the most transparent pedal to exist. So transparent, you can see into the inner truth of the machine truth of electricity.
Hahaha
Yeah I keep losing it
This pedal seems like something Juan would ask for. "Yeah, dude, can you make a crazy synth pedal with vibrato in it".
That second clip on the Moog sounded like fuckin' cyberpunk bagpipes. Love this shit goddamn.
Man this pedal put through fuckin delays and phasers and shit is gonna sound monumental
Put a rhythmic delay *before* this and prepare to lose your fucking mind, probably.
Fuck you know what, forget having an instrument as your input, just throw this, a couple delays, and a phaser/flanger on a board with the EHX RTG and go fucking wild.
I have dual delays after. Put one in front and behind?
This need to be first in your pedal chain before anything to be used properly.
how about adding a compressor between the instrument and this pedal? should make it easier to track if you set the compressor to delete the little nuances and provide a more defined note by note input ...
So glad to see JP and Joey Karam on this, this pedal is straight Locust vibes
Now I can get The Locust's bass tone without selling a kidney for the original Schumann. Also Boris' Smile.
hahaha
dats why I want her :)
The sounds from this video make my body feel good
When Nick said "Most fucked up EQD pedal yet" - I was like " Wow, I need this shit !".
Good to see Juan and Justin Pearson!
Where the hell do I put this in my pedalboard's chain?!
i like it close to the front. i go bass -> compressor -> data corrupter
In the effects loop of your amp. Just kidding.
lolz
Everywhere. This is your pedalboard now
Good job bringing Joey in with the synth! More of this please!
The moog running through this thing is fucking crazy. It's tight
You guys should do a video about Flipper and the fuzzes they used, great tones
Great video. Nice guest spots. Wonder if this machine will track a higher register instrument like an electric mandolin.
Is this similar to the Geiger counter at all?
That's a good review, it shows how the "weird" quality works and how that "weird" can be blended into something musical.
Buying one as soon as possible; I've wanted a PLL my whole damn life!
I wanna hear what it sounds like when you hook up a mic and make weird mike patton sounds into it
now that's my kind of thought process!!! :D :D :D
I didn't know I wanted this until now
I would love for Nick and Juan to interview Luca and Massimo from ZU and see how they utilize their effects! I think that would be an incredible interview.
That would be the best episode ever!
This man knows his stuff
is this tobacco or death grips I can't tell
this does some great death grips indeed
spencer hyam this comment got me hip to tobacco. Thank you.
Yeah man! My favorite is definitely his newest album but they're all pretty awesome
finally a good bass demo! sounds insane
Any chance of doing a similar video for the mothership2?
There's currently one short vid that is not very informative
nobody demo's or explains pedals and effects better than you guys
I love these videos!! Great interviews, great reviews, funny as heck. If I had one small gripe, I wish PandE would make playlist by type of effect
I'm generally not much of a pedal user, in fact,I own three. Have a generic distortion, a early Big Muff and an old D'Armand volume / wah. But I really got into listening to some of the different sounds / levels The guys were getting into here....

Awesome video, very helpful. Plus, Joey crushed it like a boss!
Does this thing make some sort of arp sound when you play it?
The Data Corrupter sounds like a drunk robot. Still trying to find a place for it in my studio.
God damn reminds me of some of the shit you did I'm the death grips record.
Thanks for the vid guys very thorough and informative and also just plain awsome
I love this site/channel so much. Fantastic review and demos.
Oh man that sounds so cool!
what is that small 5string bass Juan plays around 23:00?
awesome vid btw. was great to see JP and Joey doing some demo-ing(?) as this is definitely down the Locusts alley. Great Job!
Bryan Stancil kala is the brand name of the bass.
A Uke Bass! Cool idea! I have to put my Uke Bass thru my pedalboard sometime!
cool! thanks for the response guys!
Damn! You just blew my mind!
"the OG & the Young Buck " :D great videos guys
I got my bit commander stolen and stopped buying pedals should I get this to replace that?
lol, I was thinking this thing sounds like the locust and then BAM! Look who it is!
After watching JP totally shred on this, I'm buying it new with the Earthquaker Tee shirt
Octave before?
Just sounds like a lot of noise.
Sometimes that's just what you need!
You guys are sick!! And this review is great. Have you checked out the Syntax Error pedal by Alexander yet?
So how do you use it
I wish I could put 5 thumbs up on this video! My guitarist is getting one and I'm going to have to invest one of these in my pedal lineup as well! Thank you very much for all of your videos! Pedals and Effects forever!
Just bought one!
Juan, I dig your demos but do you ever try this stuff with active basses?? I'd love to hear it with one. Oh and I still owe you something. ;) I'll send it off soon.
Ok, bought it this time... Now, I'll get me a band I can play it in.
there will be plenty for sale on reverb in a month or two.
Great energy in your review & inspiring.

Bassists might have better results with flatwound strings and/or their tone knob all the way down, to get rid of most the overtones the bassguitar produces, right?
i just thought what the glass bassist Said : This pedal is running alone , without any distortion or drive pedal pushing it
Is that EHX Van Halen pedal they're referring to the Micro-Synth? I traded my micro-synth in for this pedal and have no regrets. However it took owning this pedal for a little bit for me to even comprehend what these guys were talking about in this video!
John Poillucci They are referring to the actual synth they made in the 80s. Mini synth it was a literal synthesizer not a pedal. The Ehx synth 9 includes it as one of the models
My mind was blank in grade 5 math
That was crazy

Run some reverb and delay after it. Very synth like.
Subscribed for the bad words awesome video!
"You don't do this shit where you buy it..say ' I'm going to play fast, I'm gonna play some speed metal'" Sage advice! The reason why I let almost all my pedals PLAY me instead of vice-versa.
"og and young buck."
This plus the Bit Commander would be GnarSaneBawlz. No Step On Snekk also.
Oh poor nick, you sound so sick. get well soon
Nicks not a yung buck anymore he's a cyberpunk rocker
awesome
I'm watching a video of two gentlemen demoing a guitar effect pedal that only makes random noises for half hour, I love it.
pause at 20:23 hahaha I'm getting one of these. Sold my rainbow machine just in time lol
Holy shit
I gotta get this and find a way to combine it with my new dynamorph.
I feel like this could take the place of my Great Divide for bass...
Anson Stiles not likely. This pedal and other pedals like it really are their own thing. I would compare the Great Divide to a more sophisticated bass micro synth.
parts and labour/dan friel
The what ? 0:16
schumann ppl offshoot?? 4046
Very noise! Love!
Since when was there an alien in mega man 2
Roast Fellow it turns out to be dr wily operating a hologram but it's the final boss
Nieves Quiñones oh yeah
While I'm watching this, I feel like I'm listening some Stephen Hawking interstellar string theory multiverse things and I don't know shit about it, but I want to, I really want to. You know, that tension in your head. :D
I think this pedal makes more sense with the synth than with bass or guitar.
18:59 lmao
s/0 the Locust !!!
it sound cool but no polyphony...in the purpose to mid /melt with other stuffs like fuzz chorus..etc
Can you guys talk more? I don't feel like there was enough talking. In fact, I don't want to hear what the pedal sounds like at all, just please more talking. Make the video an hour long while you're at it.
Hella corrupt
BLA BLA BLA =\
Gnarly but useless
