An add to my previous note. I would love for you to show designs for hand quilting. I do realize that it may not be in your wheelhouse. But even 10 designs would be wonderful.
Finally. An advanced quilting design tutorial❗ This was incredible. So many samples. So many ideas. So well presented. Thank you for taking the time to share your years of creativity and design.
Hands down this is the BEST Quilting Lecture/Demo I've ever seen and I've been quilting since the 1950's! You are so talented and marvelous. Thanks for sharing your brilliance. Much appreciated 🤩
Thank you for taking the time to do this video! Great inspiration and tips. I don't know anyone that I can learn these things from and folks like you are a godsend! You rock!
Good morning, Heather. Just wanted to let you know that THIS VIDEO has become my go-to every time I finish piecing a new quilt to find a quilting design that works well with them. Your collection is unmatched, as far as I can find. I've even learned to adapt your design suggestions to my own style by altering them slightly in some cases. THANK YOU and Merry Christmas!
Brilliant! I've been a long arm quilter for about 10 years and will only custome quilt (and even then rarely), for myself. It took me two year to get confident and proficient enough to offer edge to edge quilting for paying customers, so yes, absolutely, it takes a lot of time and practice to master this skill. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise. I love the idea of the sample books and am now keen to start my own sample books. Though I doodle, I never really thought about engageing my entire body with the doddle, and yet this makes perfect sense, as when I quilt, it's almost like danceing with the machine. I have learnt so much from this tutorial and you have really inspired me to push myself and extend my free motion skills (I will certainly be watching this tutorial a few times over). I am on my feet giving you a standing ovation.
Brilliant explanation and breakdown. I been researching patchwork & quilting for 3 years and this is a valuable resource. Will be following this brilliant teacher.
Man, I really wish you woulda stayed on each one just a lil bit longer and explained them more to us. I'd really like to understand how you did each one better so I can try them myself. Such great work, hope I can be as successful as you are one day. Just got my new sewing machine for Christmas today and can't wait to learn how to quilt like a pro. I'm already a pretty good artist, I've just never tried stitch art like this yet. Really hope I can learn how to make quilts like this. Such amazing work! 💙🤗💙
I wish you were my BFF I always watch this when I am ready to do FMQ. I need to doodle more and take time to just FMQ between projects in the summer when quilting isn't high on my priority list but a time to relax and stay in touch with the FMQ part! Thanks for sharing your beautiful works and expertise!
Heather, I love your tutorials and you have made me feel more confident about my imperfections when quilting. I know time practice and patients are all keys to the process. Thank you
❤ I wish there was a love button. Thanks so much for this excellent tutorial. I have seen so many patchwork quilt videos but there seems few tutorials on the quilting aspect which in many ways is more important. I look forward to seeing more of your excellent videos
What a great video thanks for showing all these samples, breaking FMQ down to something achievable. It seems so overwhelming when starting with a big quilt and decide what to do but you make it a lot more doable.
Heather, I had to share with you that I just purchased a Janome Artistic Quilter AQ18 Long Arm Sit Down machine... and as I learn (making my ugly quilts first), I will keep a library of swatches like you have here. Thank you again..
I’ve been searching for books and tutorials for quilting the final piece but it’s mostly all about the blocks with quilting as a secondary consideration. I have bookmarked your tutorial and plan to use it as a frequent reference. As a textile artist, sketch books and collecting motives and patterns are essential in developing work. The overlay with your method of exploring and developing your quilt designs has sparked my interest. If you don’t mind, I’m going to start my own quilt “sketchbook”. No doubt you have to put in the hours!
Thanks for these examples. My gosh, I am busy with my first one, and this is not easy! But I will keep on trying. At least, I have wonderfull people like u who guide us. Much appreciated.
Wonderful! I made a beautiful first quilt . . . then realized I was not physically strong enough to actually quilt it. So i make all sorts of quilting projects instead. One day i might tie my quilt or some kind soul might quilt it for me but, meanwhile, Im having fun putting my brains and hands into turning ideas into reality. thanks for the tips.🙋
WOW!! Im so glad i found this!! I love your designs, and explanations of how you do them and the best uses for them. I'm a new quilter and really needed this. I also want to thank you for for the comments you made about new quilters, and not being perfect. That makes me feel better about my first ones. My hardest thing at this point, is "points" Ugh but Im working on it. LOL. Cant wait to watch more of your tutorials!!!
Hi Heather, thank you so much for this video. I am watching free motion quilting videos since two hours (woooow I am sitting here so long!!). This one is for sure the best one of all. I knew it is all about doodeling, but I needed an inspiration and you gave me plenty of those. Thanks a lot!
I am stunned. Really. Books of style samples. Wow! Whopping huge creative artistry. I have been trying to make a few quilts and I completed some very nice blocks and embroidery in some blocks. I've got what I think is a near perfect quilt I plan to give to my first grand-child. But I'm stuck on the last step: the actual quilting. I've stopped and I plan on practicing with scraps (I've got an over-ambitious set of blocks I'm going to cut apart for learning) and your ideas will be part of my next step. You are both brilliant artist, and sensible engineer. At first my heart sank thinking "I can't do that." But, as a beginner, I know I can't do everything you do. (I have a day job.) However, I shall persevere and adopt some ideas I think I can manage. Thank you for the inspiration. Thank you for excellence in a world that often lacks it. While I'm at the comments, good job on the video. Very clean and clear and to the point. I loved it.
Beautiful work Heather. I've bookmarked this vid as a good reference. That green paisley IS outstanding... as is the single green leaf. Very nice work.
Thank you for the excellent information. There is so much to think about. Maybe in 20 years I will be able to do some of your easier designs. You are quite the quilter.
Great idea! I really like your suggestion at the end about moving your body with the design. This is an excellent idea and makes total sense. I'm participating a free motion boot camp right now. Never been great at drawing. We are supposed to be doing these muscle memory homework exercises to build the memory but mine has not come yet....maybe this suggestion will help😊
Just heard her say 'you're going to make a lot of ugly quilts' when starting. I started laughing as I just quilted a section of a table runner i had put up for several years and man oh man ... what I did is UGLY!!! Perfect timing to watch this video.
Not using contrasting thread against the fabric IS showing clearly the designs. I use the serpentine stitch a lot in my quilting. I had never thought of using the hera marker for marking line orientations and using multiple serpentine stitches for oriental looks. I love your ideas and designs and the encouragement to give more complex quilting another try. Your idea/sample books and advice are wonderful to pay attention to. thanks, albuquerque
Heather do you have a book with these designs? I'd buy it, beautiful quilting. I want to touch all your fabric pages. Again, beautiful work. Thank you for sharing.
I'm in my third quilt and um having a hard time making sure both the tip and bottom and middle are all flat and put together perfectly. I'm getting better at everything but I expect to be perfect at it right from the start. Thank you for reminding me it takes time. I'm teaching myself through research, videos and doing I don't know anyone that quilts it makes it a little harder. Lol
Thank you so much! Your video has the honor of being added to my special quilting album. Well done! Again, Thank you!
An add to my previous note. I would love for you to show designs for hand quilting. I do realize that it may not be in your wheelhouse. But even 10 designs would be wonderful.

Just what I was looking for - a LOT of ideas, some masculine, some feminine, etc. Thank you very much!
A masterpiece of quilting samples, teaching and sharing , thank you from the bottom of the heart!
I really enjoyed seeing all of these ideas. I love seeing the designs quilted out on fabric, not just drawn out.
This is one of the best quilting videos I've watched over the past 3 years. Thank you for sharing!

Loooove the idea of making books like this with practice samples!! What a perfect use for a layer cake! And that green nautilus!! 😍
Brilliant explanation and breakdown. I been researching patchwork & quilting for 3 years and this is a valuable resource. Will be following this brilliant teacher.
She is so right about patience and practice.

You are truly an artist.. thank you for your presentation. Inspiring!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful works and expertise!
Oh wonderful! Thanks so much....I'll come back here again and again. I'll have to make fabric books like that. I have tons of sketch books filled.
This may have been the most helpful video I've watched, and I've watched a lot of videos.
This is an excellent teaching of quilting designs. Thank you so much😊
Heather, I love your tutorials and you have made me feel more confident about my imperfections when quilting. I know time practice and patients are all keys to the process. Thank you

Absolutely Fabulous! She is exactly the Instructor I have been searching for. A true expert. Thank you!
I loved the inspirational examples here!
What a great video thanks for showing all these samples, breaking FMQ down to something achievable. It seems so overwhelming when starting with a big quilt and decide what to do but you make it a lot more doable.
Oh Gosh! I think those designs are gorgeous.
Great class. Thank you for freely showing and demonstrating your quilting designs. You are an excellent teacher.
Heather, I had to share with you that I just purchased a Janome Artistic Quilter AQ18 Long Arm Sit Down machine... and as I learn (making my ugly quilts first), I will keep a library of swatches like you have here. Thank you again..
I cant believe that you took all that time to make these "books". I must say, you are a hard worker
The design book of samples is brilliant. I cant wait to practice some designs.

I love the idea of the books. Practicing is key like you said. We often forget that. Your examples are inspiring and I like your explanations.
Heather you are such a terrific explainer. Thanks for the fantastic inspiration of all of these free-motion quilting designs! ~Diana
Wonderful advice. Lots of inspiration. No sewing machine in sight. Love it.

I really appreciated seeing these sample sandwiches. Going to make those, but wish you could demo actually sewing them.
Wonderful tutorial & great idea to make a book of designs!
Thank you so much!
Thanks this is exactly what I was looking for. I have never marked a quilt and enjoy stippling, so this is a wonderful next step.

Love you’re video! Excellent explanations. Can’t wait to make practice books of my own
What a fantastic idea, creating books with quilted samples. I'm definitely going to start getting that together :)
Thank you. I am a new quilter and this has been very helpful to me. I will be referring back to it I'm sure.
Wow what beautiful and great quilting designs thank you Heather for sharing and giving us that inspiration
Thank you for the excellent information. There is so much to think about. Maybe in 20 years I will be able to do some of your easier designs. You are quite the quilter.
Großartig, great, you are an artist, greetings from Germany
Wow, WOW. Beautiful, inspirational, and invokes creativity!
Absolutely beautiful work. Thank you for all the ideas. The one you said is great for animal fur or even flames also has a feel of wood grain.

Fantastic work on compiling into a sample booklet
Many thanks!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much!

Cindy Womack .
Thanks for posting this video. It really will help me to improve my free motion quilting.
These are amazing. I never thought to make a sample book. Great idea
Beatiful designs. It would definitely take me years to master them, but I would for sure give them a try.
Thank you so much for sharing! the booklets are wonderful and the art is top notch! I enjoyed everyminute. very inspired!
Your quilting is so lovely! The samples are such a good idea too.

This is an outstanding video, with excellent presentation of crucial information. Thank you so much.
Beautiful work and video. Thank you. ❤️
Great tutorial. Allows you to see what’s possible.❤️
Those samples are gorgeous!!!
I love this idea, I do have one suggestion though; for your samples, use a contrasting color threat so that the designs will show on the video.
Thank you. I will be working on making my own sample stitch book for reference.
Стёжка - высший пилотаж. Столько много вариантов! Цветовое решение на высоте! Респект Мастеру!
Love this. Thank you!
So helpful - thank you!
I only have one word for you: AWESOME!!!
Clever , l look forward to your tutorials, thankyou
Thank you..now I have better idea and concept to the task...but of course, I still need to figure out which one I will use to a log cabin pattern..
Excellent! Thank you so much.

I love the quilt that’s hanging behind you. Did you do a tutorial on it, or do you have a pattern for it?
