My first was a 69 standard beetle now I’m 50 years old I built my first Baja bug also a 69
Ihave never been without a Volkswagen since I was 16 years old currently working on my first water cooled 2000 beetle
greetings from Clovis California
That's so awesome you're in the right state to have a good VW Community around you and parts supplies!
Eric Ferguson No she was crushed in the back and rusted in front but lives on and will be my grandsons soon enough
My first VW is DADSBUG , a 1958 Beetle rag top. I was given the car by my dad who bought it new in April of 58. Then in August of 58 my parents took delivery of me. Now I'm DAD, my daughter will have it after me. 61 years is the same family, can't break tradition now!
Wow that is crazy cool thank you for sharing! We love hearing that stuff
I got a 62 beetle a few years back, been fixing it up since and it’s almost ready for my 16th birthday next week.
That's so awesome! We are so happy to see young kids living the VW life
That's cool I got a 1961 vw bug as my first car when I was 15 built it with my dad was the best time ever
Good on you mate
As a former owner of a volkswagen, you get to experience the volkswagen fever, get to work on your own car, get to go to volkswagen meets, fix it up the way you want it, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
My first VW was a 67 Beetle with a HP Berg engine. I purchased the car in 1973 when I was 16 years old.I lost my drivers license driving that car...I street raced quite a bit back then LOL.
That's a funny story I could imagine you erase it all the time having that kind of motor in it! Lucky guy
My first Volkswagen was a baby blue 1973 Bug, then I got a 1979 Rabbit. In 1987 I bought a 1979 Transporter and I had to sale it. In 2010 I bought another Transporter.
thanks for sharing!
My first VW is a 71 Karman Ghia I bought 21 years ago. I still have it today.
That's so awesome!
We had a powder blue bug picked out on the lot and when we got into the show room to sign papers, there was this red 1970 Beetle that had every thing you could imagine on it, what was called the Formula Vee package. So instead of $1600 we paid $2600 and rode out of there with a fun brand spakin new bug. As it turns out I am picking up a 1970 Beetle on Wednesday. In pretty decent shape and paying $2500. A hundred bucks less than the formula vee 50 years ago :)
Well that's pretty cool good luck with your new purchase!
69 beetle, green with bootiful white interior, miss it every day!
Yes we bet you miss that bootiful VW!
My first was a 73 standard bug in yellow. I still miss that car.
we bet you do!
My 1st was a yellow 72 super beetle named Hoybit. Bought him around 1996 for $800. Now, I have 73 super beetle. 1600 single carb dual port with a busted odometer. When I bought it, the "great mechanic" who'd done some work on it had hard wired the fuel sensor to the fuse box. Glad to still be here today...lol! Love the channel! Love the banter! Keep up the great work, guys! Cheers!
Hey thanks yeah sometimes you got to deal with the previous owners stuff
Red '65 beetle. Drove it from Omaha to San Francisco 4 days after I bought it. Bought my first set of wrenches (I still have them) at VW of Salt Lake City, my first Craftsman ratchets and screw drivers at Sears there. I had no idea how to diagnose or repair anything. I learned all that later. Unfortunately, no one told me about the "summer of love" so I missed it. Have regretted it ever since.
Well even though you missed the Summer of Love it still sounds like you had a pretty epic time
@@VWLifeVW Yeah, pretty good. Still have fond memories of it. My first big adventure.
BTW gas was 33 cents a gallon.........
1984 Rabbit Wolfsburg - bought in Tampa and took it to Naples, Italy
Well that's pretty cool!
@@VWLifeVWI was in the Army and got assigned to Allied Forces Southern Europe in 1997. It was a 4 speed with overdrive, AC and power steering. Perfect car for getting out on the Tangenziale with!
1959 type 1 with wing turn signals in the door posts
Wow that's awesome you had a very early semifore car!
Have a friend who has a 59 with the wing signals. His grandfather got it for him when he was 3 as a scrap car to play in. Drives it almost every day now.
@@donaldprater5099 wow!
MIne was a 1970 white Volkswagen Beetle. I bought it new off the showroom floor. $2000.00. I installed headers, a Hurst shift. some sort of high rise manifold and a big carb in it. A peace sign sticker, curtains, Borg Warner 8 track, Speakers all over the place. Added wheel adaptors all way round, flared fenders, air shocks, Chevy chrome reverse wheels, 11" wide tires on the back and 8" wide on the front. It was bad to the bone and would go anywhere. Everyone loved it and this was in a town full of muscle cars. Sold it in '78 for $300.00 in the middle of the night in North Austin lol. Bought a 58 Chevy pickup. My current pic is me washing it in my back yard in 71
Damn what a player! That sounds awesome
@@VWLifeVW It was a great car. fast on take off. I used to win money from the muscle car guys betting i could beat them a car length off the line. I did while they burned rubber, lol. was hard to spin 22" of rubber on the road, but it would give you whiplash, lol..
AND I was the only car in town that could get around in the snow and ice, lol
My first VW was a Gray 2013 Gol 3th Generation. It was robbed and I've never found it anymore. Nowadays I have a Lotus White 1969 VW Beetle.
Very cool love the lotus white color!
My first was a 66 beetle..sadly I had to part years ago w/ her...
Now I have a 74 I bought a few months ago
ah yeah, gotcha. some sad stories end some 1st vws.
Yep
Shared my Dad's old '74 412 sedan with my sister in high school. My first car I paid for was '78 Rabbit with a sunroof. Loved that car! Installed a Kamei air dam, Enkei wheels and Monza exhaust. Yes, it was the 80s. One sweet looking Rabbit!
Hey no apologies the 80s were a different time completely
My first car and VW was a '71 Super Beetle, repainted a metallic root beer brown color. Lots of good memories in that car. Sold it to a friend who totaled it shortly afterwards.
ah :(
'60 bug with a '64 engine...bought it in the winter and it had NO heat. LOVED THAT CAR...but then, my '69, I loved it more. It had heat.
it's the little things that matter, like heat :)
1971 red super beetle, bought in '75 traded 4 years later. My wife now has a 2019 beetle convertible black with cinnamon roof.
Awesome thanks for sharing
My first was a 72 super beetle. Never drove it tho. But did learn a lot . Got it running. Learned how to do bodywork on it ,etc.. sold it to a buddy before I finished it. .first one I owned and drove regular was a 1965 bug. Still own it . Sold and bought it back. Not going anywhere anytime soon plan to keep for a long time
cool! that's a keeper for sure
58 low light Karmann Ghia, bought it for $280 in 1972. And it ran!
Wow in early year for $280? Amazing
1969 Baja but the one I miss the most I had 1973 Volkswagen Thing
Oh yes very cool a VW Thing is something to be cherished
My first Volkswagen was a 1982 Polo with
40 hp in red ( marsred ).Thank you,
gentlemen.👍
Thank you! Thanks for sharing to oh
My parents had a VW camper, fastback, and Ghia growing up. My first was a Cal look '69 Beetle
Oh very nice
Blue 73 beetle....God I miss that car!!!!
Yep they seem to stay in your heart forever.
Still rocking my cream 81 Fusca, love the car
Awesome!
My first VW was a 2008 GTI. I first fell in love when my Dad got his first Beetle, a 1968 Blue Beetle. He got from a dude he worked with that used to buy Bugs, drive them til they stopped running and parked them in his yard. He ended up with like 10 or 12 parked around his property, hi wife got upset and told him to get rid of them, so he told my Pop to come pick one out and take it. I remember so well towing it home with my Dad's '76 Mustang II, the front brakes on the Beetle locked up about a mile from our house and Dad just dragged it the rest of the way home, lol. This summer my wife and I bought our first Beetle, a 1973 Super Beetle convertible, feelin' like we bought pure happiness with our new June-bug :)
Wow that is a great story thanks for sharing!
My first was a 1969 new. Rebuilt the engine twice, the second time upgraded to 1600, dual port heads, & offset oil cooler. put 243K on it. Bought a 1966 to drive while I was going to restore the '69. It's engine was so tired I put the '69 engine in. Drove it a # of years until I spun out on compact snow and mashed the rear on a power pole. After 20 years of sitting I figured I would never get the '69 restored because of the serious rust (couldn't even open the doors). Had it towed away followed by the '66 (still with the '69 engine in). I now have a 1967 purchased in 2018 with 170K original owner miles which currently has the above '66 engine in it (rebuilt 1300 stock). Have had the '67 engine rebuilt and upgraded to 1600, dual port heads, & offset oil cooler and am currently getting all the other parts to install to make a standalone engine ready to reinstall in the '67.
My first was a 1967 Type 1 in 1972 that I bought from my dad who wasn’t happy with it. I was only 16 and took over his loan. I’ve had one continuously since then, yep 35 of them. Thanks for another Great Video, you Guys are Awesome. BigW:-)
Bobby W I have no idea you had so many thanks thanks for sharing your story about your dad's beetle
I learned how to drive a 66 bug,and wash a racing 63 ghia back in 🇵🇷
Now I owe a 64vw
ah okay cool
1980 Rabbit Convertable, silver, 5 speed with AC.
Air conditioning is nice
Air cooled: '67 squareback
Water cooled '80 Scirocco 'S'
Oh nice a square back huh?
my first aircooled was a 77 bus. converted to dual 'carb from the previous fuel injection. man i miss it.
had to sell either my bus or my corrado.
We bet you miss that one! Sometimes they just get away
@@VWLifeVW oh I'll make my triumphant aircooled return very soon 😉
My firt Vw was a Beetle 72, but now I have a 72, 66 and 62, all vw beelte.
ah okay, nice collection :)
I still own mine!! Looking for a bus soon...
@@Lee-39th get one!
75 Transporter bus. Just finished it two days ago
dude! congrats!!!
My first VW was a 1962 beetle I bought it 1975 only 14 years old. The beetle and I was born the same year.😎 the beetle on my picture is also from 1962.
That's awesome Peter and you're so lucky to have something like that at age 14
1962 Beetle parts car from my auntie who had took it on a trip to Tijuana and back. Her story was that it was wrecked twice, ran out of gas a few times, once made it to a gas station using fingernail polish remover, and came home with a very crunchy noise coming from the engine.
I still have most of it. The front clip looks like an Arby's sandwich. The #3 piston had fused to the cylinder and snapped off enough rod to let the engine continue to turn. And, it's gradually being grafted over to my current '62.
Post a picture of it on our Facebook page! facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
93 VW Cabrio. It was an automatic, and I hated it. Now have a 72 Bus (needing restoration) and a 2005 Beetle Convertible 5 speed.
ha, okay most have fond memories of their first! :)
My first which I got about a year ago is a 1972 vw beetle. Love working on it and learned alot from this channel. Thanks so much guys vwlife 👍
Hey Jason so glad to hear that! Glad you're liking what we're doing keep that VW on the road
@@VWLifeVW I will for sure, got my 6 year old daughter hooked as well. She named him felix like the disney movie WRECK IT RALF since we always working on him.
In 72 my older brother gave me a 63 white deluxe bug with 13 inch Corvair wheels with chevy adapters , He had put a crank kit in it and locked the motor up 1/2 way around the block . I got it and when I took off the fly wheel it turned over again. I took it apart and put New Pistons ( 40 ) bucks and valve job (25) bucks and it did not spin the #1 main and had the endplay set (8) bucks, back then gaskets were (1.75) As soon as I got it running he took it back and drove it for 2 years 19 thousand miles and when He gave it back He ran it 80 MPH in 3rd and sprung a rod cap. so I got a Crank kit for 25 bucks and it ran for 135 thousand miles all over central Texas. The bug was named Jewburner!!!
Well it sounds like you put a lot of love into that car! Do you have any idea of where it ended up?
@@VWLifeVW Yeah at the mile 98 On 37 northbound where the windmill generator is, My dad sold it to the man with the 67 short panel van , with out telling me. He hated VWs. They were not American???
@@jimmywilkinson9190 gah! damn
@@VWLifeVW Jewburner ran but it needed a left floorpan. the bus I could not get the title and I used the engine on Rambus. Jewburner had 436 thousand miles and Rambus has 858 thousand miles on some of the parts Ha Ha

My first VW was a blue 1978 mexican Beetle. Wonderful Channel thank you regards from Germany
Awesome Chris will thanks for watching!
1. 1973 Super Beetle Sport bug, bought from neighbor in 1974, $2050 (lost in 2007 when mechanics shop was repossessed, and all inventory)
2. 1979 Bus, bought in 1980, $6000 Still drive it, at 300,000 miles
3. 1971 Karmann Ghia, Barn find, 2019 $3000 , just finished restoring, too much fun
That's a couple of really nice Volkswagens! Wow 300,000 miles and still going that's awesome
My first bug was a deal for 2 of them both 1967’s. I drove the one that worked until the drivers side rear wheel passed us on the highway. We spun 360 degrees in the highway and almost hit a guard rail. After doing a bunch of research on the rear ends of VW’s I asked the previous owner about the rear axle nut…. He told me “yeah it came off once so I hand tightened it back on and ran a coat hanger through the castle nut…..”
15 years old 1984 my first car was a 1968 bug I got for $500. Barely ran but had no rust and body really straight. Did a full restoration on it and totaled it about a year later
Oh so sorry to hear I bet it looked awesome!
White 1967 1300 Deluxe (Australia) bought it new $A2200.00
Oh yes Peter very cool
My first vee dub was a red 1963 1200 with grey trim with a lot of rust. That was back in 1980 and i still have a 1972 1303 and a 1973 type 200 basic transporter The predesessor to the hormiga.
Oh okay thank you for sharing your VW history!
As a 20 year old college Junior got a 10 year old 1974 standard Beetle, dark orange with black accents (Bumper, door handles, headlight surrounds, etc.)
Very cool!
Still have my 67 bug. Will never part. Lots of blood sweet and tears went into.
part of the family!
Im 17 and my grandpa gave me his trashed ‘72 super beetle, i am currently restoring it. Havent even drove it yet but im in love
Well that's awesome! Keep at it
72 Super Beetle. Pulled out of a field. Dead mice under the seat covers. Oil change, new plugs, new gas and fired right up.
very nice thanks for sharing!
i cant answer the question properly because i am only 14 but when i turn 15 i am going to get 2 VW's to drive a 1964 hard top bug and a 1988 fox with a 4 speed. dad said that that car would fly to. hope i can get it running again. been sitting for a few years.
funny story about the 1988 fox is when my dad was driving it the cat converter wore out and is mow just a metal box and the muffler is no better. but it gave it a cool rumble sound. my dads friends named it after the song hot for teacher by van halen because the exhaust sounds like the drum solo at the beginning of the song.
Haha that's actually pretty funny story. So glad to see young kids getting into the VW world!
@@VWLifeVW I have always liked any old car. Mainly projects because they are cheaper and I love putting something back together and make it run again.
My first was actually 2. A squareback and a fastback. Both '71s. The squareback became my daily, the fastback ran but was used for parts. I kept them for about a year then found a '76 bus and sold the others. I drove the bus for 6 years. I loved the bus! Very fun to drive!
Very cool!
First VW 1971 Beetle. Green. Bought it in my hometown at the time, Waverly, Iowa in 1991 for $300. So many fun times in that car. Then it was lots of friends first VW too. She got around.
That's awesome thanks for sharing!
My first Volkswagen was a grey '68 LHD 1200 6V Beetle, which had been imported into Britain in 1978.
I bought him 6 months before I passed my driving test in Oct '84 for £125.
As a 2 year old in the very early '60's - I always said I wanted a Beetle when I grew up and was over the moon when I got one!
My second car was a Texas Yellow 1303 Beetle (Super Beetle to you guys in Nth. America) and Boy was he "SUPER!"
His padded dash and curved windscreen just blew me away!
Best road-holding of any car I've ever driven - guess that's where the Golf (Rabbit to you) gets it's VG road-holding...
To date - I've had 13/14 Volkswagens - would NEVER have another make.
Current PRIDE & JOY is a 1.9 '87 RHD Westfalia Pop-Top T3 Camper which was restored last year (new engine, thorough paint job & new (almost) everything else!

64 rust bucket with 36 hp that you could not kill...you could grab the lower crank pulley and move it back and forward with alot of end play...this was way back during the gas shortage in early 70's...between the tracking of miles per gallon calculations and the valve adjustments that i religiously performed, i think the best mpg was 20?
lol okay, you wish you still had it?
not really in a sense, if i could go back i would have kept the 67 station wagon

My first car and first VW 1958 Bug w/sunroof (tire patches on the sunroof). Brought from Germany by a serviceman. It had seminol signals, kilometer speedometer and a Blaupaunt radio. Paid $50 for it and had to make time payments. It had to be paid off before I got it. It was a beater with a real crappy blue paint job with one fender painted with the wrong paint that was real rough and everyone called it the elephant skin fender. The shifter had an extention so the shift knob would hit the windshield in first gear just below the mirror. The battery blew up one day, after that I had to push start it. But it always started. Sold it for $50.

A 1965 beetle with dealer installed a/c, in high school in '72. Then a 1973 dealer discounted demo car. A Texas Yellow, non a/c, 4 speed super beetle. I bought a 70 Squareback while stationed in Alaska. Was not too much fun when it was -40 below, but but a great car in spring and summer. Several more air and water cooled since then.
Very cool!
Bought 2 at the same time when I was 14, a 62 ragtop that’d been cut into a Baja which was sad it was a solid car! And the 2nd was a 73 baja that had half the roof cutoff was hand painted fluorescent green with slimer in red across the side! Lol both got parted out and I bought a 69 Baja that got built and was my first driver!

1975 Super Beetle Convertible, yellow..and yes I did drive it 80 mph as often as I could and I got 33 mpg most of the time. After 8 months of searching found the car in May and sadly, it Stolen over Halloween Weekend, 1982.Never recovered. I think I drove it 10K miles in that short time. I still have my second VW, got at Christmas of 1982, a silver 79 convertible, sight unseen. VW3 - a 76 bus in dead of winter, on a Friday night looking at it with a trouble light, that was 86?? Sold it to two kids who took it from Western NY to Alaska....
