Hear Yi...Hear...Yi...🤦♂️ Did we really expect a review show featuring the two of them together to *not* have a pun-tastic name? ... (I actually love it! I'm just pretending to be horrified to fit in with the "normals." More puns!!!)
Great review, just played this yesterday. Really loved it, constantly giving you little endorphin hits with free stuff all over the board. The art really grew on me over the course of the game as well. Not going to be for everyone but totally worth checking out if you like a heavier game.
I am loving your overviews. Succinct and illustrative. Exactly what I'm looking for. Less waffle and specific examples, more bigger picture. Love it! Great job, Yis!
I'm late to this game but Wendy is always on target when it comes to heavier games like this one. Really appreciate the iconography on this game, although very intimidating at first.
I'm a Pfister fan and yes, I really like this game. Length of time is long by the clock, but having the shared action reduces the down time. I'm thinking about house ruling starting with 8 cards and discarding 2 at the start. But as Wendy mentioned you go through a lot of cards and you will probably be selling "unplayable" cards for 2 coins early in the game anyway. I find this similar or a smidgen higher weight than Great Western Trail. In terms of weight and time I see this on a par with Underwater Cites.
Great review and couldn't agree with you more about the first play being rough. I learned this with two other players completely cold -- pulling the rules out of the box and punching the stock as we played -- and it took us about three hours just to get through the first trip down the river! We stopped there, but I think we were all intrigued about playing it again and it would obviously go much faster. Definitely feels like a Pfister game. Kind of like Maracaibo if it had a couple more tracks to work!
I haven't seen a review with just the two of you, but your review is really clear and easy to follow. Now I'm invested in Boonlake ( bought my local store's only copy when only one arrived) so that helps, but I haven't played it yet. After emailing a few other reviewers with some rules questions I'm going to try Rahdo's suggested short variant because if my first session with it is a slog no one will want to play it with me again.
It’s genius for a big Euro to copy a mechanism often found in roll and writes: other players benefit even when it’s not their turn. Not quite the same as Puerto Rico.
Really thorough discussion of this! It feels a lot like this game is doing a whole lot to accomplish only a little, which I think Chris talked to a bit. I am also concerned that a couple of the more clever mechanics for this game were not meaningful enough. I hope to play it, and am encouraging a friend or two to get it :).
I've been on a Capstone buying spree. I have Maracaibo, Corrosion, Cooper Island, and Imperial Steam. I have this and Ark Nova on the way. 😵 It's gonna be great!
Wow that was fantastic! You 2 are so good at rapid fire details. My mind didn't have time to wander and somehow your delivery makes it easy to comprehend the onslaught of minutia. 👏👏👏 .In such a short period of time I think I understand basically what this game feels like to play. So many bits & pieces and so many interdependent actions and resources. My head was spinning. My gut tells me I might be siding with Chris on this one, it might be a bit much and would be nicer toned down some. But Wendy's enthusiasm has me scratching my chin wondering "huh, maybe I need to slog through this one first and reserve judgement until I've worked it all out". Great job! Thank you for taking the time!! I would love to see the 2 of you play through this game. Any chance you'll do a play through?😁
I appreciate your points and I agree there really is a lot to like for players who love tons of mechanisms and scoring opportunities. For me, after the long learning process, I find it more like forced homework. It has the driest theme possible, truly boring in its setting, actions, goals, etc. Too much iconography for me, far too many things to keep track of and understand. It may only last 2 rounds, but those rounds last what feels like forever. Agreed with Chris here, too much put into one game when it wasn’t needed. Just way too dull for that much effort. That’s just me, of course. Thank you for your review though!
"Hear Yi Hear Yi" 🤣 Quality name right there. Top shelf.
You two have quickly become my favorite game reviewers, keep 'em coming! and keep up the great work!
All glory to the hypnotoad!
I mean, thank you!
more episodes of hear yi, hear yi please ! its my favourite DT content but there's not enough of it
There are alot of game board reviewers out there. I really enjoy you two. Your not over dramatic and keep your videos simple and to the point.

Love your review. Seal of excellence is well deserved, We played it often and so far everybody found it fantastic. For us it’s a 9.5/10.
I decided that I like this better than both GWT and Maracaibo. It took the parts of both of those games that I liked and combined them together.
I prefer Maracaibo but I find this easier to teach. I saw the expansion was just announced. I’ll check it out. Great review y’all!
I bought this one the moment y'all confirmed my suspicions that I am going to love it.

great review, looking forward to this game coming to Brazil
Would like to see top 10 games of all time from the both of you to know how our game preferences align.

Thanks for watching, sir! I'm always interested when a new game of yours comes around.

Very insightful review, Chris and Wendy!
Hear Yi, Hear Yi, Yi all invited to the game reviews!
I see the centering is as poor on your lever tiles as mine. The coins in my copy were also horrendously off center
Love these two
Superb excellent game!
