Edit: I also can communicate with my friends pretty clearly until they pull out a word i've never heard.

Most comments are one year old, but a few are recent. So people continue to learn Russian... I can only underline what many people have written: Daria knows how to teach and how to encourage people to learn. Basically we learn languages a bit like children do. Grammar is for linguists and very advanced learners.

I'm learning Russian watching these videos and they are very instructive, I don't understand why people get so confused about irregular verbs, I'm a Portuguese native speaker(Brasilian Portuguese) and I don't think those irregular verbs are difficult at all, even in Portuese my mother language sometimes I make mistakes with endings I would never think that in Russian it'd be different.

This weekend I wrote (and recorded) my first Russian poem, it is just a silly introduction of myself but still. Thanks to Daria I can now write Russian poems!! I am so proud and so grateful. I wrote it to someone else but this version is for Daria. Here it comes (and please correct me for any mistakes):
    Здравствуйте Дария,
    Привет, как дела?
    Я учитель экономики,
    бухгалтер и тоже папа
    Меня зовут Ричард
    но ты уже это знал
У меня две дочери и один сын
    Венди, Мишель и Паскаль
    Моя мама живет в Роттердаме
У меня есть брат, он живет в Токио.
Я люблю танцевать блюз и свинг
    И останавливает моё письмо
PS I did cheat on one word. One word I googled. Can you guess which one?

Miss Daria, My RESPECT for teaching to be not afraid of making mistakes !
I speak 4 languages, my native languages included. I do not speak one language without mistakes, not one ! I always speak about "express myself" in a language. I am not interested in knowing how to write, only to speak and read.
Now I try to make Russian my fived language. In the very beginning it sounded to me as a "thief's language" (sorry). After many months, I'm finally starting to get used to it. In my part of the world the possibility to speak Russian is close to zero. However, I keep learning. We will see if I can use the knowledge one day.
On YT I found a channel with video's in Russian (about wild animals and people helping each other) The goal is to understand the spoken words without translation.

I love what she is saying here. Back when I was teaching, I would do an exercise with my students where we went around the room saying incorrect sentences. I would participate as well. It really helped them understand that it happens. That no one is perfect, and that what is important isn't that everything is correct, it's that you're understood. You won't progress if you stress about the grammar.

My boyfriend is Russian as is his family so it means a great deal to me to have someone so upbeat and understanding about certain problems I am encountering in my studies. Your speech in the middle of the video really resonated with me as I have been practicing typing to native speakers and they are forever correcting me and over complicating their explanations of why things are the way they are instead of like what you do with your son and just gently reinforcing the correct ways. I was feeling down about being corrected 24/7 but you have made me feel more positive about my mistakes. Practice, practice and more practice! :)

Hi Daria, I started to learn Russian with your courses and it is always very clear and enjoyable. I totally agree with the "make mistakes" part. Usually, if you're too scared to speak in another language it is because you don't want to make mistakes, but who cares in the end. People will ALWAYS be cheerful if you're trying! if your colleagues are saying that it is not the proper way to teach, they're simply wrong. keep up the good work

With this amount of enthusiasm, studying swedish and german would've paid off much more than they did back in school :D I've also noticed a funny thing that a lot of words in the finnish language are actually from russian, like "место". 18:00 this is so true. I didn’t believe this till I got to be on the other side of it. A person in my grade speaks Japanese as there first language. They are really good at English but sometimes they mess up stuff like this. And no one is like you said that wrong. Because we’re all just impressed they speaks both so well. So yes this is true

Daria is right. One of the only ways to learn a language is to make mistakes. We learn from our mistakes! If you fear mistakes, you fear learning. Teachers who don't want students to make mistakes are just making things worse.
If you want to learn a language (or anything for that matter), make as many mistakes as you can. You will only learn faster that way.

For anyone learning. This is irregular verbs which is in English and Spanish. You will eventually get use to them just like you will for cases, pronunciation, stress, and other hard Russian grammar.

Hahaha (your excitement!) You are a great teacher! Also your approach to learning and teaching languages is SO much like mine. I keep thinking "YES! - PRECISELY!" I recently taught a Russian girl that in fact you will be understood if you form the English past by using the auxiliary "did" plus the verb (minus "to") and the future by using "will", plus same. I stressed it is totally incorrect but she will be understood and can communicate. Your colleagues wouldn't like that! I'm also full of tricks for remembering and it struck me as I looked at your list of type 1 verbs that if you change the order to А Е Ы О Ю/У it kind of makes it easier to remember for English speakers as it follows English vowel sound pattern (AEIOU). I am 66 years old, have been learning (randomly - again, thanks for the "road map") since last autumn/fall, and last night I left my first voice note in Russian - you are helping me a LOT!! Thank you!

I also stopped after lesson 9 and am just now starting lesson 10. I've found that it's important to take lots of notes and review them daily, otherwise this can get overwhelming.

Daria at the start of the video: "This is gonna be REALLY confusing"
Daria for the first ten minutes: *basically just explains that we gotta learn ONE additional rule for verb conjugation (if they end in ить), plus some random exceptions that don't actually matter that much*
Me: *still bracing for when she adds on the NEXT five rules to the explanation*
Daria: *literally just takes the last ten minutes telling us viewers not to get to stressed out, when all she went over was a single new rule to memorize* 😆
(Basically... she just spent the majority of the video, talking about how intimidating it is to learn this stuff, but... if you HAVE truly paid full attention to her earlier videos, and took at least a few days off, to practice in between them, then THIS video was hardly difficult at all. It's ONLY intimidating because she makes exceptions seem WAY scarier then they actually are.

I am Greek and i try to learn Russian on a level that I will be able to understand a tv show or read a newspaper.I love your channel.I tried a few apps before i discover your videos but apps are good only to learn new words. They don't explain why you do something.Or they teach you standard phrases that only tourists say.
