  • California has the highest biodiversity of any place in North America, due in part to past climate changes. During the Pleistocene California became a refugia for species that were otherwise facing extinction elsewhere on the continent. Now we are facing a new and different climate change. Community Scientists, often energized by taking California Naturalist classes, are uniquely positioned to participate in science, documenting if and how California's rich biodiversity is adjusting to this new climate challenge.
