- Hello everyone! This is Cumberland Gap, and just to say, there are a lot of versions of Cumberland Gap.
So, I call this the campfire version of the tune. You will probably encounter this version frequently, or at least parts of it. It's the campfire jam, session version with 3 parts.
Also, just want to say this is a lesson from my NEW Teachable Banjo Course! You can subscribe for banjo videos, tabs, resources, and get a detailed plan to learn banjo so you don't have to search on youtube for the next steps to learn. I keep it streamlined with a curriculum so you can use your precious time in the best way possible! I really liked this platform and having been working so hard to get it together the past couple of months.

You will forever be the lady that taught me Cumberland Gap! thank you!!
Awww
Hallo aus Deutschland. Schönes Instrument toll gespielt. Hört sich wunderbar an.
Thanks. From Melbourne Australia. Beautifully played.
Wonderful lesson. Thank you so much Hilary. I was really struggling with the timing on this one, and you helped me immensely. I also love the video of you with your band and the dancers. So inspired.
Hi Hilary, I love your style and appreciate you taking the time to share your skills with us. Are you in Double C tuning on the video with the dancers made 4 years ago at Beehive productions? It is absolutely fantastic. I'm trying my best to follow along, but besides the first string, the rest doesn't sound right. Are you in Double C? Thank you so much.
In that Beehive video I am in F tuning! Almost like Double C but the 3rd and 5th string are F's
I’m new to Clawhammer banjo and this is really helpful! Thank you!
Your videos are absolutely perfect. If you take requests, I’d love to see one of these on Let Me Fall.
I will try to get to that one! Great tune!
And another thing! Congratulations on your Subscription Banjo Courses endeavor. I'm sure your students will do great with your help.
I moved recently and haven't played my Banjo in months. This has me motivated to get your tab book out and get playing again!
just recently bought a banjo so I'm really enjoying this as my first song on a long road, many thanks and much appreciation from over the pond in the UK.
Awesome lesson! I can tell you are totally blessed w your instrumental abilities; your smile reveals you enjoy the music you create. Thank you for posting a quality video to share, I do have some questions. What strings do you use on your Reiter and what kind of microphone is that to capture the musical notes so well. I’ve just recently acquired a banjo & have to search internet for guidance on playing as there is no one near me that plays or teaches bluegrass or claw hammer style. How long have you been playing claw hammer ( you look so young)? God bless✝️
This mike is awesome. It's a Warm Audio condenser mic. My banjo is a Bart Reiter classic. Nothing fancy!
Thank you so much, Hilary.
Thank you Hilary! You make my day every time I watch you. You are a ray of sunshine. AND you are helping me play much better!
Your time is superb. Your ability to groove - spectacular.
You're lighting the candle and leading me through the darkness... Thank you, Hilary!
Nice lay down. I struggle with cords in double “C” tuning. Could you further explain the fingerings (or the shapes) for the G, F and C chords please? Thanks.
That is just what I needed, Thank you so much
Great playing of this tune. There are so many versions of this tune and this is my most favorite version, It is alot like merideth moon's take. I'm stoked to learn it. Cheers!
Lesson is a game changer for me! I so appreciate this...THANKS!
Thanks for the tune played beautifully, and an excellent presentation on how to play it.
Very nice I really like the two views. Another great job. Do parts 2 & 3 have lyrics like part one?
I believe part 1 is the only one with lyrics. And I hope posting this leads to me being proven wrong! :) I've only sung over that one part though!
@@hilarybanjo Part 3 we sing "old man's dead and gone, old man's dead and gone" but my friend from Tennessee sings "all my money's gone, all my money's gone" but I've also heard "all are dead and gone, all are dead and gone" so either way its a happy little verse. This a a different version me and my buddy joe do, slowed down and no B part, but 3rd part lyrics are the same.

Always enjoying listening to you.
Nice!
Very good. Lots of rhythms and precision.
Thank you so much for this great banjo lesson! I'm trying to learn and videos like this really help! Can I ask what brand banjo are you playing...it really sounds great!
Thank you Hilary
Tuning is GCGCD, not GCDCD as description says
Now, that right there is a really great lesson. ;-) Thank you
Beautiful!
Thanks hilary ❤
Great as usual! 🙂
Hilary are you striking the strings with your ring finger or middle finger? It looks like it’s your middle finger. Thank you!
Hi Hilary...very nice. what kind of banjo are you playing?
Thanks a bunch.....Pure Appalachia .....
Lovely.
Please, what banjo are you playing here?
Believe it or not, I only have one openback banjo. It's a Bart Reiter. I absolutely love it.
@@hilarybanjo Ah, I wondered that! I have a Round Peak by Bart and like you I absolutely love it
THEY started me out with picks, but they kept falling off. I have fat fingers. Kin I switch to claw hammer and just play without picks? I notice you have nice thin fingers. What can you say to a boy with fat fingers?
man i feel like dancing
Are you twocentsinthetill???
Not bad for a girl , lol .... girls are taking over the stringed instruments i dont like claw hammer technique , i think its not punchy enough and kinda soft touchy not dominant or picked hard enough , im very opiniated though but honesty is the only way to go , youre pretty good though at it .
...but it's part of our country's history and deserves it's place. Amen!
Bloody brilliant !!
Nice!
