- Merano (Meran) in South Tyrol (Südtirol) in northern Italy. A short cinematic video tour of this historic city in the mountains of the alps. As well as a walk around the historic city center and stoll along the famous Tappeinerweg and Gilf Promenade this video also takes you up into the snowy mountains of the alps via the Merano 2000 (Meran 2000) cable car for an amazing winter walk!
This video was filmed shortly before the Corono Virus outbreak. I dedicate it to the amazing people of Italy and I cant wait for things to get back to normal so I can return to your amazing country!

thank you! Its always great to get positive feedback from people who live there. We planned to visit Merano for only 1 day but we loved it so much we went back for a second day and next time we return to this area we intend to stay there for longer! Its a really stunning place!

thank you for watching. Merano is really amazing place. I really recommend it and I hope to go back again one day.
My favorite place in the world. Spent much of my childhood visiting Merano. My father lived and worked there during WWII and we would go so he could visit with his friends. I remember eating and drinking beer in an underground bar. The food was amazing and the city was spotless. Going to the Forst beer house and the Dolomites was always fun. Maybe someday I’ll go back to visit Merano before I leave this earth.

I would like to go back for a longer visit one day as well (maybe spend some time relaxing rather than running around making a video). Lets hope we both get another chance to visit again one day!

@@vanman757 not sure, I don’t actually live in Merano (my mum was born there and so was I) but I know for a fact my mother went to a school run by nuns near the town, as she always talks about how terrifying they were, but I don’t know where exactly they are positioned.

Merano is German speaking though in Italy right?
It's a mix. According to wiki "According to the 2011 census, 50.47% of the resident population spoke German as mother language, 49.06% Italian, and 0.47% Ladin"
@@Barnyz Was there always a German italian mix, or was it facilitated by the mussolini regime. I know he sent many mainlanders to Sardinia, and also sent people to Trieste when the border with yugoslavia was made? Do the german speakers still identify as Austrian?
@@jonnykaykorn3060 im not an expert but yes i believe this area was part of austria at one point and mussolini tried to make it more italian. It is now part of a semi autonomous region. I dont know the full history or the feeling of the local people but i do know its a really awesome place to visit and that people here are very friendly

@@jonnykaykorn3060 In this case, it was facilitated by the Mussolini regime by settling folks from other parts of Italy in South Tyrol. These settlers mostly ended up in the towns, which is why Bozen and Meran (Bolzano and Merano) have significant local Italian populations, whereas the surrounding countryside of both is predominantly German (upon leaving the suburbs).
