Haha! For me, there was a bit of a surreal moment where you cut to a view of Table Mountain while talking about aonori seaweed! I lived in Cape Town for a short time. I miss that mountain and have a lot of fond memories associated with it. The Akayu Kara Miso Ramen looked delicious! I love a spicy ramen.
Glad that part resonated! That was stock footage - wish I could say I took that myself. I've never been to Cape Town but would love to go and get my own footage of Table Mountain 😊. This style of ramen has got your name on it!
@@5AMRamen I've never tried any of the ramen available in Cape Town, but apparently there are a few places that serve ramen and one of them is really close to my flat!! One day I'll have to check it out. I think you'd love Cape Town 😁
Hi Frank….my god you have the best job, but I’m not suggesting this isn’t hard work creating your videos that I love watching. I’m loving every single ramen bowl you devour and to hear the history / stories behind them. 😊🇨🇦
I really do 😃. Even with the editing and all the work afterwards - being able to eat ramen all the time...it doesn't get better than that. Thanks so much and every bowl has a nice story behind it. Can't wait to visit 🇨🇦again!
Great video. Missed this at the Yokohama ramen museum or maybe I chose Sumire over it. Either way these videos are one of the few things tying me over from not being able to travel to Japan (or anywhere) for the past 19 years it feels like. Keep them coming!
Will do! They're still at the ramen museum now (Ryu Shanghai) and hopefully will be by the time borders are open again. Excellent choice with Sumire tho...they say the bowls are small, but as you know they're not at the museum 😃.Will keep it coming!
Nothing in Nanyo City except the onsen and Ryu Shanghai 😊. I actually haven't had the Yokohama Ramen Museum version. We should compare (after trying both)!
Another great ramen review, loved the extra clips at the end. I thought the Chinese style furniture was a nice touch in the ramen shop. I'm used to seeing aonori on takoyaki but was surprised to see it added. I've been saving the instant ramen bowls from my pack! As good as the instant ramen bowls are, I still can't wait to try the real versions especially with the char siew. Also that yonezawa beef looks so good, can't wait!
At one point I'm going to put together a longer format "Ramen Journal" video for the whole trip - including footage like that at the end. Ryu Shanghai definitely pays homage to to the Chinese roots of ramen! Right - aonori isn't so common in ramen but it was a nice touch. It's good perhaps to get a proper sense of the styles with the instant versions...gearing up for the real thing when travel is back 😃 Yonezawa beef was as advertised - amazing!
Glad to see another episode! About the ramen; are you supposed to stir the spice paste ball into the ramen to evenly distribute it, or just take what you need each bite, not not touch it and let it melt into the broth on it's own? Also some feedback: the loud beeping sound between b-roll footage at the end isn't working for me. It disrupts the calmness of the rest of the video.
Totally agree with the beeping. I copy pasted that from previous videos with humorous outtakes at the end...but this time it esp. didn't fit the serenity of the scenes. As to the spice ball paste - I think to each their own! About halfway through, it'll all become part of the broth automatically. I personally like this happening (occurring naturally) so that I can enjoy the soup without it first.
@@5AMRamen Yeah, I like the idea of the spice levels changing over time. With Japanese food it's actually quite impactful whether I'll try something if I don't know what the convetions are on how to properly eat it. I can look at a bento, see stuff I have no idea how to eat and think "Eh, maybe I better not order that until I can ask someone what the deal is...". And it's those little things, like with the spice ball in that bowl of ramen.
Japan does have particular processes, even for food! But for the most part, I also believe in enjoying dishes as you like (excluding any big faux pas 😊)
@@5AMRamen I once went into a foodplace before realizing it was one where you had to make some quick choices as everyone moved in a line past the kitchen counter. I had no idea what anything was as I couldn't read any of it. If a kind lady behind me in line hadn't helped me out, I'd have annoyingly held up the line and would have probably chosen to leave to prevent stalling everyone. Eating out in Japan without speaking the language and knowing the customs is... stressfull!
I really want to order but theres only Mastercard on your website... If there would be PayPal i could order it Some of them looks very good but i coudnt get them
Actually, most credit cards are accepted - including Visa. PayPal is also an option at checkout. I just double checked to make sure something wasn't wrong!
It's the "Premium Pack" that rotates - that one you can select to get the Sept pack! I put all the info in the video description too. As to how it compares, the real thing is king...but it's crazy how deliciously close they get it with the instant version 🍜
Yonezawa beef.....that looks delicious
One of the best beef brands in the country!
It's a good companion for cold weather
The perfect cold weather companion 👍

I don't doubt I'd love Cape Town. The city looks gorgeous. Let me know if the place close to your flat passes the ramen test 😊

Yes Please....Love My Spicy Miso Ramen.....

Wow ---this looks really good. Great in the winter too
Yes and yes! Great winter bowl.
heavy ramen sounds like its the best in comparison to a lighter broth! yummm
When it's cold outside, a heavier ramen def hits the spot!
I'm not into a miso ramen, but this one is taking my attention 😳😳
This one's special 😊
If it’s spicy it’s for me ❤️🌶
Your bowl!
I cannot wait for the snow!
More snow to come!
Love all the shots with snow in it!
The Japanese landscape is beautiful with that silky layer of snow, isn't it? More snow to come in some of the videos!
Omg a ramen museum. Need that video!!
Will do a proper one there eventually!

Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. Next up - Yonezawa!
Frank is my jam!
Thanks 😃
interesting style of ramen! I sense I would probably like this as well seeing how I love Karamiso type ramen! thanks for sharing with us!
I'm sure you'd like this one! Thanks for watching!
This looks amazing. 3 kinds of protein in the broth plus seaweed! Oishi desu. :)
Yes! Action-packed bowl - land and sea coming together.
That looked so delicious!
It was divine!
Yeah this is where I wanna go next! I've tried this is Yokohama Ramen Museum but I should go to original Yamagata store like you!

We are really enjoying this series, Frank! I am marking each location on my map for a pilgrimage as soon as the borders open up to Yanks!
Bookmark away! I'll keep the ramen shops coming until that day arrives 😊
I really enjoy your ramen videos. You're making me crave for ramen again. 😁
Thanks and that's great! Happy to assist those cravings.

How does the 7 eleven cup noodles version compare to the real deal?
I can't find the September pack on the online shop. Only the premium and spicy packs.
