      Hey,@@linasidji8311.. you were trying to say Muslim men, right? Are circumcised, too? After all, Muslims have a common ancestor with Jews in Abraham. And he's the man who started it all.. the practice of circumcision, among other things.
      Yeah, Danny & David, it's not just Korean or Jewish men who are circumcised. It is still pretty much the norm in American society, too.. at least 90%, especially among the older generations. It may not be as status quo in the younger generation, like teens & 20s but still pro'bly 80%.
      I think it's also a common practice in Latin American countries, because of the influence of the Catholic church. I would be surprised if it's not true.
      I know the practice started with the Jewish nation, but the practice was adopted by Christians & the Catholic church & I guess Islam, too. The practice just tends to be more sanitary, IMO.

    Interesting, the "we're such a small country what can we do about climate change" is so often used in my home country, which is very big in land area and very small in population, and one of the most forested regions left in Europe. Yet because we are a developed country and society has been modeled in the capitalist-consumerist vein, the average CO2 emissions per person is about 9.31. I read somewhere that if everyone had the same quota of carbon emissions per year, an average Finn would use theirs up somewhere around early April I think. The average CO2 emission per capita in Korea in 2019 was 12.7. So if we all think that we're so small we'll have no impact no matter what we do... well, there will definitely be no impact then. Almost right after you talked about the topic of climate change in Korea you talked about the huge consumer culture, even. That didn't really add up to me.

    • @vunessuh
      @vunessuh 3 года назад +8

      I've noticed this...while I think individuals should be mindful it's not entirely their faults they have been in a society that literally shoves consumerism down their throats. Literally. Especially for ppl living in a dense place like seoul where there are shops, cafes, and ads everywhere. Plastic everywhere. Corporations should be held accountable for ethical practices as well as individual people doing the best they can.

    • @saturated3821
      @saturated3821 3 года назад +5

    It's so interesting that a lot of things are compared to the US and then 8000/7000 a year tuition is called cheap TT. In Europe there are countries where it's free or max 2000/3000 euros a year (+/-2,3K or 3,4K dollars)

      In Greece univerities are free (there are some private colleges that are expensive but in general universities are considered a lot better in terms of quality) but you have to pass exams to get in of course. Then most postgraduate studies are around 2.500-3000 for 1.5 years. So when I hear about 8000 a year tuitions I am like 😳

    • @pikachuthunderbolt3919
      @pikachuthunderbolt3919 3 года назад +2

    • @saphiralechat8300
      @saphiralechat8300 3 года назад +3

      A lot of people say that university is free in France but in fact it's just that most people don't have to pay because they have scholarship. This scholarship reward you with : not having to pay the tuition fee, meals cost 1€, priority on university housing...It's not given to the best student but in fonction of your parent's earning. The poorer you are the more the government will give you. My family is in the middle class so we are not that rich but quite good financially. This year I will receive 1724€ (~170€ per month). The minimum is 1042€ and the maximum is 5736€.
      There was a problem with the administration this year so my scholarship was delayed and I had to pay 300€.
      So it's not "free" but a lot cheaper compared to others countries and there's a lot of help thanks to taxes.

      Most of Korea's climate problem comes from China Most of our large factories are abroad, and 70% of our land is made up of mountains. It means narrow. China recently retaliated for not buying coal from Australia, and they cut electricity production. Currently, the sky in Korea is the clearest I have seen in 10 years. You can see the stars in Seoul

      Oh, you might think so. However, China accounts for 15% of Korea's large factories abroad. 25% are in Vietnam and the rest are in various places Also, Korean factories in China are less than 5% of their internal factories.

We liked to go to the subway and randomly pick a stop and just go explore (we didnt speak Korean or read Hangul). It was so fun! Yes, Korea is one of the "reycling-nations", right behind Germany. However, when he said "Korea is only a small country" I wanted to scream at him! Recycling won't save us from climate change! Germany has more inhabitants than Korea, but still does more against climate change and has lower Co2-emissions per capita than Korean, Furthermore, the whole "but other countries are bigger and THEY should do something" won't get us anywhere! Imagine what could be possible if all of the smaller and middle-sized countries united! Maybe China, USA and India will follow

    When I first heard about honorifics/formal in Korean, I was so shock. But then, I realized, we, Vietnamese, have it too, in a stricter (?) way. We call relatives different pronouns (not aunt, but like, mother's elder sister differs from mother's younger sister differs from father's.... I still don't know how to call them correctly lol), friends, colleagues, ...

    Love it! Honest and straight to the point. Want to see this series go on! I got a few questions myself: What is this kchrrr sound Koreans make to comment on someone or rather what does it mean? Is it sarcastic or a sign of agreement? Being so frank in this video, in which situations are you behaving much more to the (perceived) Korean norm aka contained? Is that behaviour changing in younger generations? What about mental health issues, depression and burnout? Are they still taboo, not talked about and is there any network for help? Are there any signs that the competitiveness and heteronomous pressure in all areas of life (from after school tuition till late at night, beauty standards, what you can afford to even a competitive drinking culture) is lessening? Could you explain the concept of 'some' (the stage before dating)? To me it seems confusing when Koreans are said to commit very fast.

    I am still weirded out when koreans constantly mention how South Korea is a small country. Maybe by land it's not really that big but it has bigger population than most European countries(It would be 6th most populated country if it was in Europe). So saying South Korea doesn't really have impact on climate change kinda dismisses most of the world.

      honestly? most of the world is not responsible for climate change. the united states alone is responsible for 30% of global energy use and 28% of carbon emissions. the entire continent of africa is responsible for less than 3% of all carbon emission in the world. if it sounds like some countries don’t really impact it that much it’s because they don’t. (not saying this is the case for SK, just answering the last part of your comment)

WOW thats sooooo cheap, SPECIALLY for a top tier university like SNU. Here in europe (at least where I live) this is also the average university tuition price but those universities are like community colleges, NOTHING compared to SNU. Im honestly shocked

    I like these series, I like to see the cultural differences between different countries its cool, I'm persian and I was surprised that there is so much similarity, except iranians love foreigners, they show so much hospitality and if u date a foreigner ppl will be so positive about it (with just one country as an exception which is so sad), and about the military since its same here even tho men get 2 years of hiatus they still have better chance of getting a job and have better salaries, and better chances for promotions. for few positions u might have better chances for promotions if u are a woman, I cant think of many jobs as an example tho, like being a nurse, or supervisor of different sections of hospital, and ofc there isnt weird cults here, iran is very homogeneous when its comes to religion, even if ppl arent that religion they still arent into weird cults.

      @kuroneko5390 3 года назад +5

      I am fat and let me tell you "We all have eyes and we all know ourselves how healthy or unhealthy we may be" Fat shaming never made anyone less fat.... Also high overweight is almost always a symptom. I have multiple conditions that make it easy for me to gain and almost impossible to loose weight. I sometimes have to take meds that make you gain 30kg if you are unlucky. I am fat because i am chronically ill i am not ill because i am fat. There is a difference in that. Also I am not lazy I am depressed xD and I still take a long walk everyday, make my workout. Before corona I went swimming 3 times a week. A huge part of my therapy to treat my chronic pain conditions is based on staying in motion. I also have a special diet and I am not over eating. Most fat people have similar stories and people just have different body types some are just natrual curvy or slimm body and everybody type can be healthy. There are people called happy obese they are highly overweight but they don't have any organic health problems because of it and they are fit and active. I just hate the stereotypes people have about being overweight... most of them are just not true... also why hate on them or voice fake concern to hate on them through the back door? Also so many overweight people work on loosing weight but it just nothing that works over night. It took me 2 years to loose 30kg that i then gained back because of meds and know I am on loosing weight again and it just takes a long time. People being judgemental assholes doesn't help especially if they bully you out of the gym or other places you go to work out just because of your weight. I don't get that type of skinny people telling me to loose weight because I am disgusting and then still harassing me so much that I leave the gym... it is a problem really. No it's not good that other people care and judge other people's bodies because they normally don't care at all! They just like to bring people down to feel better about their own insecurities. You don't need to tell fat people that they may be unhealthy because they have all doctor's as well as mirrors and eyeballs. Also don't hate on people when they are really skinny either being underweight can also be a real health problem to people and they are often trying very hard to gain weight. It is also more dangerous way faster for the body to have underweight because your organs fail faster that way. I have a lot of friends that struggle with their weight, underweight as well as overweight and all of them just have medical conditions that cause that and treatment of that is oftend not easy and it takes time and being chronically ill is always a strain on people's mental health so shitting on them won't help at all. Stop judging people's bodies, stop being mean under the pretence to care just let people be
