My daughter called me a few months ago crying and told me that my granddaughter who is 14 has a friend that is being abused at home. She said she didn't know what to do and I reminded her of this song that I played when her and her brothers were young. She told me "I'll call you back". When she called back she told me that the girl was at her house. I asked how and she said, "I called my brothers and they took care of business". I am so proud of my kids ...
I was pregnant when this song came out....when my son heard it he asked us to name her Alyssa...so the little girl would be remembered. Needless to say her name is Alyssa Bay
The sad thing is that the child loves their parent through the abuse. And the abuser was most likely abused as a child. Doesn’t make it okay. Just a reality, unless someone can step in and break the chain. Hurt people hurt people. It’s a sad cycle. We have to protect our children. Thanks for sharing.
I broke the cycle in my crazy family, now I teach martial arts to kids and women. I vowed to make sure my kids never know pain like I lived through. They are becoming bully proof through martial arts. I finally found my calling. And its something I'm actually proud of.
that's why I will always vow that when I have kids I will break that cycle, I will not let the hurt my mom put on me make me hurt any kids I have in the future
You got this song wrong the "LIES" ALYSSA WAS TELLING WAS THAT SHE WASN'T BEING HURT. She was trying to tell her daddy the parents were hurting Alyssa that she knew Alyssa was lying.
I don't know what gets me most about this song. A little girl murdered by her daddy or a little girl looking to her daddy for answers he can't give her. This song was about both. We can protect our children from abuse but we can't protect them from experiencing evil. How do we give them answers we don't have? How can we help them cope and understand when we don't either?
You'll hear a lot of abuse awareness songs in country music. Look up Concrete Angels. "Concrete angels" is another way to say "lost children". It's bc of the angels made of cement that often serve as grave markers for children
The video in the classroom is a recreation of the video being shown in a classroom and it leading to students in the classroom opening up about being in abusive situations themselves.
I worked in the public school system for many years and my last year I was in my early 20s and until one of my young students came in one day with something that couldn't be hidden, she and her siblings made that "typical" excuses and I left my classroom and immediately reported it and when the "parents" found out they took my student and her siblings out of the school and left the state. When I heard that, I knew emotionally that would be my last year. Some people think you "get used to it " after seeing it so much and I'm here to tell you...NO...NO YOU DO NOT GET USED IT.
Not going to lie, I usually just check the Mack videos and Handley, I glad I watched this. As a parent myself it really makes me want to hug my kids. Thanks.
That's the thing about country music, it tells a story; whether good or bad. Unfortunately, child abuse is a real problem. But, it is so great when someone uses their platform to shine a light on this, and other issues. Great reaction
Ok, you are off a bit! The guy singing has a daughter that is friends with Alyssa!! Alyssa lies about her bruises or hides them. The dad decided to go to school and report it on Monday, but when he gets there, it’s to late. Alyssa was beaten to death during the weekend. He is explaining it to his daughter and that is why is is crying The true story part is the HS kids watching the video (Alyssa might be true too) and the girl walking out because she is/was abused too
I love this song but it makes me cry every time I hear it . The kids can’t help what the parents are going through and my heart goes out to anyone that is going through this and o hope and pray someone helps before it is too late like it was for the little girl in this song.
20 years ago, I taught Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training courses for 9th - 12th graders. We had to put the cadets into uniform and I watched a freshman take off his ragged shirt and try on a uniform shirt. His back was scarred with old stripes and brught red with new stripes! I had the Colonel who co-taught watch the cadets and I went straight to the principal. My ultimatum: report this or I call the police. His parents were arrested and he went to his Grandma's. It could have been different if I had ignored what I saw. Never ignore abuse!!!
My son has adhd and acts a fool sometimes but I’ve had days where it’s so frustrating I’m like I love you enough to just let you win today bc I wouldn’t want to lose it. We as parents much keep it together
First hearing this song you feel for the kid because the friend is lying and it’s hurting her feelings, then after you hear more of it…you feel bad for the kid and everyone around.
I love how people listen to music they never may have, and get the same reaction This video emotion and anger. We all feel it no matter our set or religion. Glad to see there are good people out there that get it and have the same response to it Children are the future, honor and protect them at all cost. We unite for a common goal, and it's the future not us .kids need us , be there for them don't fucking hurt them Love what he says, we have to teach kids they don't know better, realbshit real words . Unite and protect our babies the future, not us them protect them and honor them. Legacy our children respect and protect the future , its our job to make this world and it starts with our and everyone's kids . Protect them the future they will lead, let's make sure they succeed...
If you like patriotic themes try Five Finger Death Punch Wrong Side of Heaven and Gone Away. If you pay attention to their message, you will cry😭 I like this song but it makes me tear up. Would love to hear a reaction to an old country song Don't Laugh at Me
This song now reminds me of Gabriel Fernandez. He tried so hard to get someone's attention. For the most, it was his teacher. I cannot believe children go through such a terrible thing. I went through abuse too. At the time i thought it was just me... I would trade my whole past to see that another child never went through this ever again.
Same. This, Concrete Angel, Luka... probably every song about child abuse ever, he will be the first kid who comes to mind. That case is just brutal and unfair on so many levels.
Hi Natasha I'm so sorry that you went through that, my best friend actually was abused when I was in middle school and when I told my mom about it she actually told the school about it and I lost my friendship with my best friend and when me and my mom and I were driving to the gas station she played Alyssa Lies for me for the first time and I cried and my mom said that I did the right thing and since then I wish kids or anyone for that matter to go through this
I would love to see you review Runaway Train by soul asylum. The video was responsible for finding several missing children and the remake has new kids in the video and I believe sone have also been brought home. You are so caring and compassionate in these reviews, I really think you’d enjoy it :)
I can honestly say as my kids have gotten older (pre-teen and teenagers), they have made me so mad, I refused to address the issue at that time because I was afraid of losing my temper. We came back to the issue once everyone calmed down.
I was born, I survived, I escaped. Back then and now Jesus Christ was and still is with me. The Lord saw and heard everything my parents did and they both WILL stand before HIM and give an account of their every word and every deed. Children are a Gift from The Lord God Almighty HIMSELF. Please Love Your Children!
Both of my sisters were in abusive relationships and they hated me for beating the shit out of the guys that hurt them. I didn't care because I would rather they be alive and hate me than dead at the hands of someone they loved!
Watch "CONCRETE ANGEL" BY MARTINA MCBRIDE IF YOU WANT A TEARJERKER. ♥️ THIS WAS ACTUALLY A TRUE STORY THE TEACHER TRULY PLAYED THE VIDEO AND SEVERAL STUDENTS CAME FORWARD AND TOLD WHAT WAS HAPPENING AT HOME.
Sometimes kids will lie about something to hide the abuse and feel like no one wants to help them just because they're kids and they feel like no one cares enough so as adults we have to hear kids out no matter how old they are because if people don't listen it can end horrible and they'd be just as accountable as the parents or whoever they live with
It's always important to focus on the child's behavior like that teacher when the girl walked out because when kids experience any form of abuse they change and not in a way is best for them I know this because i was sexually abused by an uncle when I was little I was a talkative little thing love making friends with anyone i meet but now I'm distant don't like talking to anyone i even have trust issues I'm sharing this because it's important to know what abuse does 2 a kid I'm always looking over my shoulder even today I'm restless some nights i cry for no reason abuse of any kind will keep kids from socializing with others it might not be that way with some i don't know this is just my point of view of the abuse i dealt with and sometimes the abuser would either threaten or bribe the child into not saying anything which is mostly what leads to the lying the child could go from honest to dishonest stealing or something that only adults would know is wrong
I think you missed the point of this song. It’s not about kids knowing right or wrong. It’s about child abuse. Alyssa lies to cover her bruises and abusers. She now lies with Jesus. That’s the point.
I think he was saying that as an example of why parents abuse their kids and he has a good point a lot of parents will abuse their kids for that reason it's stupid but it does happen
First you should never hit when you are angry. Second you don’t need to being hitting your kids to make them listen. Im 58 father of 3 and never touched my kids in that way. I grew up that way and said I would never do it to my kids. Trust me they are respectful and all doing well. You really want to punish them tell them you love them in front of their friends. It drives them crazy. I bet when they get older they will remember how lucky they were. Remember children are presents and should be treated as such.
I am asking all my favorite reactors to react to a song so I can make my own play list of you all. The name is Dear Mr.Jesus. I don't know who it's by but it's from the 90s I think or late 80s. Thank you if you do!

This is a true story it took him two years to write about it when he wrote this song. It's one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard
I was pregnant when this song came out....when my son heard it he asked us to name her Alyssa...so the little girl would be remembered. Needless to say her name is Alyssa Bay
This is so very sweet! What a great and sweet son you have!
I was pregnant, too. I was also abused by my father. We named our daughter Alyssa Donni after me and my brother.
That's beautiful.
That's beautiful.
Concrete Angel from Martina McBride should be on your list, too.
Also Dear Mr Jesus is a very sad song.
you trying to kill a man? A man can only take so much
“The Little Girl” by John Michael Montgomery is a tear jerker!
Child abuse should be punishable by the death penalty..if you hurt a child you have failed at being a human being and succeeded at being garbage
Big facts here. Hurt ppl hurt ppl

In the world today people are afraid to get involved,, and it’s sad ,, people don’t realize how much of a gift these children are
IF this song donf makes you tear up,your heartless . PERIOD .
An abusive parent is looking for a reason to beat a child. Some hate them because they are stuck with a child riuning their lives.
I don't know what gets me most about this song. A little girl murdered by her daddy or a little girl looking to her daddy for answers he can't give her. This song was about both. Exactly 💔
Amen to that!

This is based on a true story. That’s the school in the song where she went to school.
The video in the classroom is a recreation of the video being shown in a classroom and it leading to students in the classroom opening up about being in abusive situations themselves.
It took Jason Michael Carroll years to write this. Everytime he tried he would get a migraine and have to stop
He didn't kill the girl. Alyssa was his daughter's friend.
and sometimes there are adults who just do it because they are bigger and stronger.
I agree with you there
I worked in the public school system for many years and my last year I was in my early 20s and until one of my young students came in one day with something that couldn't be hidden, she and her siblings made that "typical" excuses and I left my classroom and immediately reported it and when the "parents" found out they took my student and her siblings out of the school and left the state. Geez! Geez! I haven’t listened to this song on YEARS! I used to sing this when this song came on the video.

Yes, spot on
Jmc wrote this song because this happened to him and his daughter. He struggled for 2 years on weather or not to write this song
What a wonderful teacher to see that that girl was hurting and went after her!!!!!

Kids are the greatest gift from God and I can't even imagine how people can hurt a helpless child 😭😭
Thanks my brother. It's been almost a year now since we met. Thanks seriously

No one should ever hurt a child
A child is God's way of telling us the world should go on
I heard TatU 'Not gonna get us in your intro! How freaking awesome is that?! Loved your reaction!
😂 🙏🏾
I totally understand
I have been listening to this song since it came out-- I always cry, the girl that left the class was also being abused

Love on the children
when he says "alyssa lies" he's not saying she's lying about being hit. she's lying by covering it up so no one knows.
I dont understand how anyone could ever hurt a child
True, horrible and what so many babies are going through! Heartbreaking ... yes, let’s show them! :) Love, guidance, morals.
The sad reality is that this happens every single day. Because of my past I have no use for an abuser.
