You nailed it with your honest take! This collaboration does seem like an unusual mix for sure - taking a high-end heritage brand and decking it out in plastic. It's all about personal preference, right? When it comes to personal preference, I'd proudly go for the G-Shock 2100 over this any day. Swatch definitely scored more attention with this collaboration, but I can't help but think about how it might dilute Blancpain's craftsmanship, especially at a time when its true artistry is often underrated.

doubt that they will do longines or glashutte. longine is much more affordable than omega blancpain ir breguet. so i would rather buy £600 longines than $400 plastic swatch shit
Woke up early on Saturday with no intention of getting one. I just went to see the hype and possible chaos. Instead I found myself within the first 50, so I went ahead and bought one. I got the green Indian Ocean

I was sceptical at first too. But I walked passed the Swatch store on my lunchbreak and saw the queue was only short so I picked up the white Antarctic model. After seeing in the flesh and wearing it I don't think it's too bad. Nice summer vibes and lightweight. Just a fun watch. Don't be too serious about it. If you can afford to splash out the $400 why not? Even if it only lasts the 2 year warranty period the cost per wear is approximately $16 per month. You'd spend more on your coffee allowance. Your designer sneakers probably cost more and it doesn't come with any warranty. I'm not ashamed to say my baseball cap cost twice as much as the watch.

@@underdog5081 Bought mine in Sydney Australia on Tuesday. They have started randomly selling them throughout the week. What a bummer for those who camped out for hours during the initial launch haha! Unlike the Moonswatch which they delayed selling them for 6 months after the first release. But Moonswatch is still more popular and people still queuing for them. There's no Swatch stores in surrounding countries in the Asia pacific region so there's many overseas visitors buying them as well.
Just replaced my Antarctic version with a milspec grey nato. Looks great and matches the colour of the bezel. I would say the white Antarctic model is the closest to the original as it's the only dial colour variant that actually exists in the Blancpain catalogue and could pass as a white ceramic watch

Love your channel - keep up the great content. I really cannot understand the long term strategy here, leveraging iconic brands to make cheap shit.
Why not make a great new model or 2 for the fifty fathoms and then depending on where you live etc you get the Swatch one free as a way of saying thank You.
Surely that way you get happy customers who have spent $$ and they get an extra watch to wear, give to the kids, or sell etc.

I couldn't agree me with you, if you are looking at accessibility, then a new range if not the revival of fifty fathoms at a lower price point could have added the competitive edge. but thinking about it again, i do not think that was the goal, i think Swatch wanted people to talk about the fifty fathom and bring it to a wider attention and what better way to do that then make a plastic toy version of it! regardless of what it could do to Blancpain's heritage. On the other hand this is no where near market expansion or growth for Blancpain, as you are still buying a swatch :)
Finally…someone whose default isn’t sucking off a new release just b/c it’s new. The watch is trash. This is about short term profit at the risk of destroying a heritage brand. Churn. Burn. On to the next…unzipping over your grave as we speak, Louis Breguet.
I've spent more on a strap from Omega. That price is a candle in the sun of the sums many of us are hurling at obsolete jewelry. Non issue. These swatches aren't measured with the right stick. They are fun experiments. There will never be a ceramic Blancpain in expressive colors. It's not what they do and their buyers aren't going to get confused about this. This collaboration doesn't take away from the brand. They've also probably tapped out on new potential buyers and this will get more eyes on the brand. Now that the dust has settled, it's clear the moonswatch hasn't damaged omega or the speedmaster AT ALL. This is no different. Just Swatch charging non-enthusiasts to wear an advertisement to themselves. As a package it is a MUCH better value proposition than the Moonswatch. You could do much worse for a fashion watch.

I like brands and watches that go after professionals. These plastic cash grabs, colors, and artificial hype by not allowing people to buy them online is all first class marketing. However long term, I wont consider purchasing an Omega, or Blancpain. In fact its pushed me to want a Rolex or non swatch group premium watch even more. I really wanted an Oris watch then I saw the Kermit the frog collaboration… do you really want a sesame street watch? Thats what Moonswatch and this Blancpain monstrosity remind me of. Also Ill have fun wearing my tudor watch and purposely getting a dig on someone wearing a recycled ocean baby diaper on their wrist.

Been to the swatch store in Orlando several times. None of the collaboration watches are ever in stock. Looked and handled the Irony watches while in the store, they’re garbage. The fit and finishing is worse than a $15 sketcher watch from walmart.
While looking for alternatives of the moonswatch i got myself a Bulova lunar pilot for $300 its a nice watch.
I think it's quite fun. Brands not taking themselves too seriously. Just don't stand in line for hours for it or overpay. It's the most attention Blancpain ever got and everyone knows it's a Swatch. I don't think it'll taint Blancpain's brand image, if not just increase visibility.
Absolutely, your perspective makes a lot of sense! These kinds of collaborations can add an element of fun not to Blancpain in this case however
I would have much more preferred the cheapest, serviceable automatic movement in the watch. At least once it broke down, I could just replace it with an ETA or Sellita and keep the thing alive. Now once it's breaks/slows/stops it's GARBAGE. So nice that Swatch made the straps from recycled materials so they keep it out of landfills all the while putting the strap on something that's eventually headed straight to the land fill! 🙄🙄

@@Demirel32Even if you can't replace the Sistem51 movement, as long as you can remove the caseback a competent watchmaker can install a 3rd party donor movement or even a quartz module. My watchmaker has done so for vintage watches when the original manufacturers movements are scarce or no longer available. If the case is the 1 to 1 ratio of a real FF maybe you can install a real Blancpain FF movement. That would be like having a Porsche engine in a VW beetle😅
