This is one of those cases where being the most faithful port (Genesis version) turns out to not be in your favor. It's so faithful to the arcade original, it carries over the atrocious collision detection.
+ShelltoonTV1 Yes in the case of this game being the most faithful port of the arcade version is definitely not a good thing, the arcade version was terrible.
The NES version was sooooooo close to being fantastic, if only it wasn't so brutally difficult. The ability to run, front flip over and throw guys while flipping over them was awesome.
NES Version is a game of its own! The game had the flickering issues due to the limitation of NES. The BG music was dope but megadrive version music is badasss!
You're not going to believe this but I was going to start working on this game myself for next week's show, hahaha. Oh well, good video as always. I'll think of something different.
+Gaming History Source 100% True. I was spouting horrific things in spanish when I was like 8. I didn't even know spanish. That's how frustrating this game is. I beat the Ninja guy and he joined my crew. Never got farther than that.
Thank you for posting. Not everyone's favorite but I liked it. I really had to get used to that reverse kick in DD2 and probably didn't till I played that game again as an adult. None of that trickery in DD3 and you could play as a ninja! I played the NES version first and have been carching up with the other incarnations lately. Thanks again.
The Genesis version was very close to the original as far as looks, but the hit detection was a mess. After you'd knock an enemy down, there was a delay as to when you could hit them again. FUCKED THE ENTIRE GAME UP!! However, the soundtrack was pretty nice and true to the arcade. The NES version (as usual) went completely off the rails of the original, but it was the one in which I had the most fun! Hands down I'd have to give it to the NES overall.
+Accelluter Yeah, I noticed despite the graphical superiority of computers in many cases, it payed to own a mainstream console back in the day. You were guaranteed music and for it to work.
Curious fact, although Bimmy is not a third Double Dragon, Sonny Lee is. Some versions of the Arcade had a three player cabinet. The Japanese version allowed you to play as all other characters and gain weapons without wasting quarters.
Technos biting off of Ninja Gaiden Arcade 1988 by Tecmo with them overhead Throws. Ninja Gaiden Arcade was the 1st Beat'em up to feature Overhead Throws.
I'm one of the few people who alienated far enough to understand that as a Japan-made video game is usually better when played in its origin version than an international version. Technos Japan wasn't quite interested in the Double Dragon franchise as much as their Kunio-kun franchise. Therefore, they hired another company under the Taito umbrella known as East Technology (Gigandes, Sel Feena, Operation Wolf 3).
I love the micro transaction the arcade pushed on you. Insert coins to buy _______________. Right off the bat they make it an unfair fight to get you to go into the shop and spend you money.
DD3 (Arcade / Arcade ports) needs to add these: Add extra life, smoothier walking and attacking animation. When an enemy was defeated, they drop coins as reward, depends on enemy type, or how skillfully you attack them. (Yes, the weapon shop's item price may increased, so that means enemy respawns, but easier to be beat.) Any suggestions ?
Nes version is very good. But for me the most faithful port of the arcade is the Amiga IMO, but the genesis version is also good except for the terrible hit-boxes.
What a f**king joke. Charging extra for what should be standard features? This game was decades ahead of it's time. And like many sagas, Double Dragon f**ked up on it's third instalment.
if its such a joke then why do you keep buying video games? We all really need to find something else to do at this juncture. Video gaming has become far too expensive.
Yeah (because of the crappy collision detection just like the arcade), but not the best game overall. That would be the Amiga version which was actually just like the mega drive, smoother than the arcade, but this time without the crappy collision detection which was actually (for the most part fixed). Also no weird invulnerability frames between hits for the enemies rendering them unhittable for a split fraction of a second...
You already got Streets of rage and Final fight at this time, how can Technos be satisfied with that game ?!? Only the NES version add Marian to the story. Poor Bimmy and Jimmy...
Abosolutely NES. Badass Sountrack and Hardcores Enemies. [in a Japanese PAL Version at Unlicensed with Low-Lifes: Aboslutely "Hardcore Mode"] FNAF3 it's a hardly? No,Aboslutely "Terrible Easy". Clear compare: in FNAF3 does Savegame,DD3 not. Easy compare. ----- Outside: ZX Spectrum has a Better Intro Tune track than Arcade,When Amiga will be has better graphic than Arcade.
Excluding arcade. I think i would put the Amiga at the top graphically and sonically. Smooth 50 fps i think. No music but ok Fx. MD 2nd. The music is quite bad , it does sound like one that may be less grating on real hardware but im guessing.
Is this the first example of a pay-to-win game? Specifically: a game where you use real money to power up your character, not just one where you can pump quarters into an arcade machine and continue until you win...
+TurboPikachuX as nice as that sounds, the problem is the type of game it is. The game play alone would not make for a very appealing video. But I may consider it for a different style of video in the future.
arcade ,in Japan edition, you can select all character and skill before mission start。all of the game,Japanese edition easier than America edition always。America edition likes pay to win。 worse capitalism。
The mega drive version looks okay, but the terribleness of the arcade original carries over to the home port. The Amiga port at least looks pretty decent. But if you play DD3, try the "difficulty fix" hack of the NES version, it makes the game playable.
+CarozQH I ended up sort of liking the NES version. If you select the nun chuck to beat the first boss, then beat and chose the stupid Chinese guy. The game becomes a breeze. But that was always Double Dragon for you. Bloody hard until you find it's Achilles heel.
Watching those home computer ports is pitiful. It’s like a bad game just got worse. But at least you don’t have one life and no continues like the NES version.
This is one of those cases where being the most faithful port (Genesis version) turns out to not be in your favor. It's so faithful to the arcade original, it carries over the atrocious collision detection.

2:18 The birth of DLC and virtual goods.
oh wow
In true NES fashion they "Nintendized" it and changed it to the point of not even being the same game as the original anymore.
Bimmy and Jimmy? *BIMMY AND JIMMY?!*
lol
hi
The NES version was sooooooo close to being fantastic, if only it wasn't so brutally difficult. The ability to run, front flip over and throw guys while flipping over them was awesome.
I only managed to beat it once as a kid...
The music is badass on the Megadrive version.
in the arcade version, i wonder if anyone used quarters to buy at the ingame shop...
21:47 haha did they punched billy so hard that he farted?
After seeing so many of these Let's Compare and Battle of the Ports videos, I officially feel sorry for anyone who owned an Amstrad.
NES Version is the best one. I played the hell out of it and still playing from time to time.
NES Version is a game of its own! The game had the flickering issues due to the limitation of NES. The BG music was dope but megadrive version music is badasss!

+Retro Core Go ahead & make it. :) It's all good.
I never did run into a copy of this in the arcade back in the day. I went a lot of arcades too. Guess they were doing me a favor
The Rosetta Stone? Are Bimmy and Jimmy teaching us how to be multi-lingual?
+callmemarc yes ! they are teaching you many MANY curse words ! As you'll be spewing out all kinds of nonsense out of pure frustration !
+Gaming History Source 100% True. I was spouting horrific things in spanish when I was like 8. I didn't even know spanish. That's how frustrating this game is. I beat the Ninja guy and he joined my crew. Never got farther than that.
+callmemarc That Program wasn't out until long after this Game came out.
@@OfficialTruDru I'm pretty sure he's talking about the actual Rosetta Stone.

The arcade version is so similar to the arcade game Crime Fighters
thank you! i never heared of crime fighters i download after your comment and really like it.
love the NES version
The ZX Spectrum must have been a popular computer back in the day cause it seems to have a lot of ports of games.
Ah nice times of Nes version^^
+Accelluter Yeah, I noticed despite the graphical superiority of computers in many cases, it payed to own a mainstream console back in the day. You were guaranteed music and for it to work.
Curious fact, although Bimmy is not a third Double Dragon, Sonny Lee is. Some versions of the Arcade had a three player cabinet. The Japanese version allowed you to play as all other characters and gain weapons without wasting quarters.
NES is best licensed version hands down.
Any version is bad except the NES one, I was so disappointed at the time when this came out
+psychopoison
The NES version is essentially a completely different game lol.
Only reason that game sucks less
@@58jharris thats why It Is the Best ;)

They should have brought it out on the Sega Master System.
I love the micro transaction the arcade pushed on you. Insert coins to buy _______________. Right off the bat they make it an unfair fight to get you to go into the shop and spend you money.
17:57 That grandma though
The BEST of course the arcade, one of the BEST Games ever

This video is really good. Keep up the great work! =)
+videogamefanatic 5471 Thank you ! I appreciate that ! I hope you enjoy my channel. :D
+Gaming History Source For the next vid, how about duke nukem 3d? (includes genesis version by Tectoy)
+videogamefanatic 5471 Can't promise it next. Some of these projects take weeks to complete & I've got a list in front of me. But I'll note it.
Gaming History Source alright i completely understand
The Genesis version is definitely the one closest to the arcade. Great port of an awful game.
What a f**king joke.
Charging extra for what should be standard features?
This game was decades ahead of it's time.

2:40 is that a Saab Sonett or an Opel GT?
The black sheep of the Double Dragon franchise
+James007HungerZone That would be Double dragon 5.
The one that was based on the movie right?
James007HungerZone Nah, the Neo Geo fighting game was based on the movie, DD5 was based on the short lived Dic cartoon.
+CarozQH The Neogeo Figthing is a very GOOD Fighting game, is no a black sheep, the DD5 is bad.
One of the few games that most of the ports were better than the arcade.
Wow, these other versions make the NES one look pretty dam good, despite the "Bimmy."
The NES version WAS good. It just took some getting used to.
the arcade version is always king, console ports are just dumb down trash
Boge Vs.
Arcade version sucked ass. The NES version was the best hands down.
NES version is so different... and just better, always been my favourite.
The Spectrum versions really good
You already got Streets of rage and Final fight at this time, how can Technos be satisfied with that game ?!?
Only the NES version add Marian to the story.
Poor Bimmy and Jimmy...
I used to have a different C64/128 version that one was on a cartridge and looked more like the MS DOS version.

the c64 is horrid. the enemy don't even fall over
28:39 Your rabbit-fu is strong...
Why the nes version is so different????
Hey it was different but it was the best version of the game
The worst Double Dragon, but the zx spectrum version looks nice. Poor Amstrad
NES version is the best !!!
Still like NES/Famicom version.
Bimmy and Jimmy.
Excluding arcade.

+OuroborosChoked Hit the Ice did it as well.
there's no snes version because this console is to good for this game
Funny, the amiga ports of double dragon got better with each version. Shame dd3 was so terrible.
You should do Sim City next! There's over 20 versions of that game (and the Super Nintendo version has a blissful soundtrack)
+TurboPikachuX as nice as that sounds, the problem is the type of game it is. The game play alone would not make for a very appealing video. But I may consider it for a different style of video in the future.

Nes wins, Fatalite🤕
For once the Atari St version has decent scrolling!
This game was so freakin cheap on nes.
It was, but once you got used to the attack patterns it was fun to play.
nes version best
3:53 Джигурда
why arcade choppy walking? strange design choice. the consoles fixed it!
The mega drive version looks okay, but the terribleness of the arcade original carries over to the home port. The Amiga port at least looks pretty decent. But if you play DD3, try the "difficulty fix" hack of the NES version, it makes the game playable.

Amstrad version is incredibly slow
If u can't block why waste time and money
Damn that Commodore 64 version is unplayable.u can't even hit the enemy but they can hit u smh
The arcade version look's bloody awful.
Nice... More microtransactions. 😒
So..worst Double Dragon game? I think so.
agreed 👍
Now it's just the second worst Double Dragon game. We have a new worst -- Double Dragon 4.
NOOOOOOO !!!!!!!
sup
This game, and all its variants, SUCKED SO HARD
The Angry Video Game Nerd did the review of the NES version, and therefore he criticized it for being the worst game of all.
Nes version isnt as good as the megadrive 😂😂😂
Watching those home computer ports is pitiful. It’s like a bad game just got worse. But at least you don’t have one life and no continues like the NES version.
Oh no not this crappy game.
This game looks tedious and unfair as hell and far inferior to it's prequels.
man the story was great in this one but the game was horrible in all versions the best one is nes and is not even as good as 2
Nintendo the best dd3
The Genesis version is the worst one.
