I usually don't have much patience to videos but listening to you compare the two types of cameras was amazingly painless and effortless!! Thank you so much
I got a 5 camera system a month ago, and it works great. I found that I have to turn individual cameras off when it is very windy, or heavy rainfalls, or snow. I have 2 cameras wired, and 3 on battery. They are all outdoors. Even though the resolution at night is not great, they pick up remarkable motion. For instance, they pick up rabbits in the backyard just by the whites of their eyes in motion. Similarly for raccoons and cats. This morning, the motion was triggered by two large deer ambling in the back yard.
Lyrics Mania no take out the battery if you’re going to connect it directly wired , if you leave the battery in along with it directly powered you will get an error
I recommend leaving the batteries in the camera so they can still record if you lose power to the camera. It will deteriorate the battery life over time but it's still worth having a battery to fall back on
Loved your review, very clearly explained. My son just purchased me a Arlo home security camera for my apartment as a bday gift, seems I had some unexpected guest stopping in and helping themselves to some of my things. Thanks to the Arlo pro I am feeling secure again, the video takes are very clear and I love the idea that I cab download a app to my phone that alerts me in someone enters and I can save it to my 📱. No more stressful sleepless nights!! Thanks to Arlo home security and my son's for purchasing and helping me get it set up..
This gentleman succinctly explained what I needed to know about the Arlo pro 2 cameras vs. Arlo pro AND pointing out concerns, restrictions and realities of the system in a non complicated way. Saved me hours of searching Arlo forums, RUclips, etc. I believe you to be not just intelligent but wise. Wisdom to me is often born from intelligence fostered with patience, humility and being non political, non biased, sharing and caring...in one word - LOVE. Thank you very much Sir. HEY! Just read Philip Roll's comment below - I agree with his assessment also.
Just purchased the pro2 "plus audio doorbell ( wont be using doorbell) I'm 65 yrs old and tho I know enuff to install he system and have a smart phone, I know nothing about computers, apps etc. so as I watch several videos on the pro 2 I get really lost/confused when you guys start "rattling off" all the adjustments and settings that are done using the phone. I know how to make calls and send texts, that's it. I can't believe the kit does not come with a more comprehensive user manual (pro 2 for Dummies) that explains all that stuff. I was just wanting an easy wireless (outdoor) security camera system to keep an eye on the front of my property. I'll probably have to call Best Buys "geek squad" to come and teach me how to use this system after I install it or just return it. Thanks for th video.
We have had ours operating for a month and quite satisfied , you hit everything right on , we have had our camera's go off line once during this time but have come back on by themselves.
One of the best tech reviews I’ve ever seen on YT. Detailed and thorough and without unnecessary fluff (enjoyed knowing what’s in the box but I don’t need to see you unboxing it and describing every detail to pad video length). As the video went on, I thought I was watching a video review from CNET or Wired! One tiny, hopefully constructive critique; reach out to Arlo and get an official response on why the cameras don’t support zones/continuous recording on battery. I think it’d made the review even more complete and really solidify you as a subject matter expert. Amazing work and you’ve got another subscriber!
You are a breath of fresh air. Very professional and efficient use of time...RUclips is full of too many wasted minutes of blather, but you fill every minute with new information, continually moving forward. I appreciate your preparation and expertise, thank you for sharing.
One way to save on these could be to purchase a Pro2 for the “main area” where you may need call and response features and then pickup the older cams on eBay for other areas where you just need a visual.
Excellent Job on this tutorial. I love my Arlo systems. I have two totaling 13 cameras in locations 100 miles apart. One even runs off cellular wifi. It's amazing the security I have accomplished without wire. Some of my cameras are connected at least 300 feet from my base station.
Damn good review...Well done. I have had my Arlo pro 2 5 camera system for about 1 month now, love it....BONUS!!! I had caught a sale at Costco for a 3 camera Arlo pro at Thanksgiving with a $200 gift card so it costed me $100 out of pocket with the $300 sale....When I went to pick it up at my local Costco and got home I noticed they accidentally sent me an Arlo pro2 5 camera system(Est $900 retail)...Ah, the struggle for the next 3 days with my conscience!!!...lol.....I did the right thing and called Costco to let them know the error after prayer and the internal struggle......Costco said thank you so much for your honesty and they couldn't remember the last time someone called notifying them with this big of a cost error.....Costco said thanks and enjoy your free upgrade! :-) :-) :-) Now I sleep better at night with upgraded monitoring and a clear conscience...It does indeed pay to do the right thing.....THANKS COSTCO!.....Again, great review.
Good review covering the details 👍🏼 my one problem with Netgear is that they don't seem to really care much about fixing problems with existing systems and seem to just move on to the next one instead. The first generation Arlo were okay, but had a lot of bugs, many of which have never really been addressed. Doesn't say much about their priorities. I do know somebody who tried the Pro 2 system and they did have the connection bugs. They called Arlo who would not even admit there were issues, so they took it back and got the regular Pro system and it has worked fine so far.
Excellent video. I especially like how you show each item, feature, button, etc. as you are taking about it. Makes it very easy to follow and understand.
Hi Chris Had to take my Arlo Prop 2 back as the mount was not deep enough to take more than one thread. Had to introduce a 5/15 bolt as the Arlo mount would not go down far enough and it picked up every car going up the road. Needed extra thread as we are subjected to 80 mph winds which would have sent it spinning into the next doors. Found the D Link DCS 2803KT had 9mm of thread so thats up now.
This is my third review that I have watch that you have done a great job on. Keep up the quality reviews! I have subscribed because of this. Merry Christmas!
Great video! Your assessment convinced me that this is the system I'm going with. My daughter has Arlo on her house and swears by it. The 5 cam system is available in-store at Costco with tech support. Thanks!
Thank you very much Mr. Majestechs. I appreciate your presentation and the information. I know your time is valuable, so thank you for spending it on reviewing the Arlo Pro 2. Have a great day!
Good stuff. I was trying to decide on RING vs Arlo. Decided to go Arlo Pro (bse station and i cam deal) and add 2 Pro 2 cameras. Good to go! Thanks for the great video!
Great informative video! Great job! I was unsure about the Arlo Pro 2 system, but you sold me on it through your professional review. Keep up the good work! I hope that with the solar panel, they will be able to resist the Canadian winters. 👍
thanks for a good review.. helped me make a decision for purchasing a 4 camera set for watching over and communicating when needed with my aged/unwell parents (indoor)!
Really Great Review.. Now fully understand the differences of the Pro and the Pro 2. Very easy to set up like you said.. And am going to buy the solar panel for the outside camera now as well after watching your review.
Nice video. I just bought the Arlo Pro 2 weeks ago. I wish I had the 1080p, but not that big of a deal. The issue I do have is the 2 way audio. I wished you had talked about that. While the camera does pick up sound...the volume that comes out of the camera when talking, is whisper above mute.....it's 99% inaudible! Both Arlo tech support and Arlo community have no fix for this and no solution appears to be in the picture (no pun intended) any time soon. The Arlo Community board has been asking for help since 8/17 and no one has figured out how to fix this issue of low volume.
Thanks for the heads up, great video, just a heads up, the Arlo Pro 2 3 camera kit is on sale on amazon for 449.99 today and take advantage cause time is short, thanks again!
as far as camera quality I'm happy considering we had several types of security cameras and this system is the best we had for quality system and very happy with it.
Very informative/good review. Questions: #1: You can apparently plug in the indoor cameras to avoid having to recharge them but the outdoor ones should not be plugged in? #2: You can connect an external hard drive or USB drive to the back of the base unit to automatically save videos inhouse, in addition to Cloud-based? #3: On one of the sites where they sell these (Amazon?), it said that the temp range for outdoor use was 32-122. At 122, we'll have more problems than being able to use the camera...HOWEVER at 32, since I live in Colorado, THAT is a problem from October through April each year. Is this range correct? #4: If you already own a Arlo Pro, Pro 2 cameras can be purchased & used with the existing base? I'll definitely check out your other videos. Thanks so much for your info & (hopefully) answers to these questions.
Thank you for the review. I just bought the Arlo Pro because it was cheaper. I hope it works okay as 1)a nanny cam inside and 2)front yard camera outside. I also hope I don't regret not getting the Pro 2.
I bought the regular arlo at Walmart and will try it out. What forced me was my budget but most importantly I still wanted to get my hands on it and try it out and more than likely I will return it and get the pro. Later on I’ll try the pro and hope and if I like what I’m getting from arlo I will consider buying pro 2 during the holidays for sure.
Nice review and way to highlight the differences between the Arlo Pro and Pro 2. I didn't understand why the 1080p video footage wasn't as crispy as I thought it should be but you cleared that up for me. I really enjoy my Arlo Pro and Pro 2 camera system. Can you share some smart devices that can go with the security system that works with IFTT and Arlo like a door chime, glass break detector or other common things?
I believe the reason look-back or region selection require external power is because those feature require the camera to always be on and recording internally. It's battery operation uses a separate low-power passive infrared sensor that detects movement, and that triggers the camera and WiFi to start up only when movement is detected, thus saving battery life.
I have had the Arlo pro 2 for 2 months now. Caught someone trying to get in one of our cars this morning. The nighttime video recording was not clear enough to make out a clear face. Arlo says they are only to be plugged into power on the inside. Not outside at all. They are no longer weather proof once plugged in. That goes for the solar panel as well. They said if there would be a chance of moisture that the solar panel would need to be disconnected and the tab secured on the back of the camera making it weather proof again.
The reason Look-Back and Zones require the device to be plugged in is because it needs to be running the video camera all of the time. (Look-Back likely buffers a few seconds of video so that it can be recovered later). This would likely drain the battery in a matter of hours. When not plugged in, the camera is rarely open. Motion is detected only by the motion sensor (and even that can be off if you are at home).
Your review was very helpful. Thankyou very much I've been looking for a security system & you really explained this system well. I was looking for a non monthly system & this has different options. I guess that's why the price point is a bit higher than other similar security system. Thankyou:0)
I saw that Armorax Home Security has a deal going on where you buy 1 camera and you get 1 free. That’s pretty awesome considering their video plans are cheaper compared to other companies.
Hello - I saw a note somewhere while researching that arlo PRO 2 says activity zones work "When plugged in and used Inside". Have you used Arlo Pro 2 with activity zones plugged in Outside - and has it work successfully? Or does the type of cord affect activity zones- i.e. if you use a weatherproof cord the activity zone feature does not work? Thank you so much for your videos and answering this question! Jim
You always have really helpful - ie informative reviews. It’s nice to get actual information rather then a review that reads a company’s summary. My sister in law is moving into assisted living and I have concerns about a networked camera relying on the WiFi for the community. Eg if they decide to update the network, will I have to fly down to help my in-laws reinstall the camera to the network. The arlo seems to be the best bet since the cameras are tethered to the base station and not reliant upon the network. Is this the best option for me?
Great info and presentation. Looks like Arlo is the system for me!

I bought these Pro 2.. and something I would like to know before my purchase. 1. This system is designed to be a cloud service. Without and Internet connection you can't access anything, nor the base or the cams. 2. You really depend on Netgear servers to be OK. Over the weekend suddenly I started to get errors trying to log in, and my base was off line (Even with good internet connection). I tough it was a faulty base. I tried a lot of thing (resetting everything, change cables, change DNS servers). I leave it plugged ready to return it the next day. In the morning it was online again. So definitely Netgear has issues with their servers. In general, the cams do the trick, but maybe a wired solution will be more stable in the long run. And as he says in the video, you pay a lot for this, these service should improved. I guess Netgear can do it eventually trough software updates.
Perfect presentation...yeah price is high $599 be perfect.. every1 would buy these...I wait awhile see when their next generation comes out....$800 for only 4 camera is a lot...6 camera for $799 be perfect...thank you great job 😀!
Very good review. Well done. I appreciate all the work you put into making this. Question: I was thinking about buying the 6 camera pack of Arlo Pro 2. But in order to use all 6 cameras, I'd have to pay the $99 annual subscription? Also, do you have to remove the battery to recharge it?
Hi from New Zealand. Just brought the Arlo Pro 2 and this is the best review .Thanks
I usually don't have much patience to videos but listening to you compare the two types of cameras was amazingly painless and effortless!! Thank you so much

Thanks, this is the best review I've seen. I really appreciate your work. This must take a lot of time - time well spent from my view point.
You are really good at giving review and his is the best review I've seen. Addressed all the concerns. I really appreciate your work

By far, the best Arlo review on the Net. I just picked up a 3 camera set (wish I had done the 4) and I love it.
Great work . Just grabbed the 2 cam set for 377 at best buy. Was going to go for just the pro but they ran out. For the price the upgrade seems fair

As I'm in the market for a home security system, your review was very informative!
Very good job on the description of the cameras, everyone wants to know the battery life as well. Good job!
Awesome review!! Comprehensive, clear, professionally done. The best I have seen. Thank you.
This is an excellent in depth review..thank you from New Zealand
WHAT A GREAT THOROUGH REVIEW! This guy does excellent work. Thanks for the info!
This is my third review that I have watch that you have done a great job on. Keep up the quality reviews! I have subscribed because of this. Merry Christmas!
Awesome review. Very good coverage on the differences between the versions.
This is the second video of yours that I have watched and impressed with both of them. Thanks
Great video! Your assessment convinced me that this is the system I'm going with. My daughter has Arlo on her house and swears by it. The 5 cam system is available in-store at Costco with tech support. Thanks!
I LOVE the idea of video being instantly uploaded to cloud! Totally screws criminal thinking to get rid of the evidence ...too late for them!
Great review, you definitely had forethought in producing the video. Will continue to watch your other videos.
Thank you very much Mr. Majestechs. I appreciate your presentation and the information. I know your time is valuable, so thank you for spending it on reviewing the Arlo Pro 2. Have a great day!
subscribed. definitely can get on board with your diligence and honesty. didn’t feel like you were being paid for the review or anything.
I love this setup. I’ll add this to my “eventually” list. Rechargeable batteries for my non-essential cameras & solar panel for my mains.
Good stuff. I was trying to decide on RING vs Arlo. Decided to go Arlo Pro (bse station and i cam deal) and add 2 Pro 2 cameras. Good to go! Thanks for the great video!
I been having my arlo for a year. No trouble. No lose connection. The new focus thing! I need
Great informative video! Great job! I was unsure about the Arlo Pro 2 system, but you sold me on it through your professional review. Keep up the good work! I hope that with the solar panel, they will be able to resist the Canadian winters. 👍
Great review! thanks! I will be getting this system after watching your review. So many questions I had regarding these systems you answered.
I love your reviews and I watched when you did the original Arlo Pro camera. Time for me to watch the new review.
thanks for a good review.. helped me make a decision for purchasing a 4 camera set for watching over and communicating when needed with my aged/unwell parents (indoor)!
One of the best reviews I have ever seen, Thanks!
Really Great Review.. Now fully understand the differences of the Pro and the Pro 2. Very easy to set up like you said.. And am going to buy the solar panel for the outside camera now as well after watching your review.
Great video. Clear and well paced. I'm thinking of adding on to my old 4 camera Arlo Pro system and this really helps.
Thanks for the info about the ability to integrate display with Alexa/Fire TV devices. I just got the Arlo Pro and didn't even know it could do that.
Great production in this review. Direct and to the point.
Nice video. I just bought the Arlo Pro 2 weeks ago. I wish I had the 1080p, but not that big of a deal. The issue I do have is the 2 way audio. I wished you had talked about that. Thanks for the heads up, great video, just a heads up, the Arlo Pro 2 3 camera kit is on sale on amazon for 449.99 today and take advantage cause time is short, thanks again!
Thanx for the well made review. Yours is the most informative that I have seen and I FINALLY know what the "free 7 day Cloud" means!!
Very helpful. I was able to find a 5 camera Arlo Pro 2 at Costco for $769. A great deal. I love this camera system.
This is a first-rate video, both in content and production quality. Good job!
Best review of these items I've seen! Kudos!
as far as camera quality I'm happy considering we had several types of security cameras and this system is the best we had for quality system and very happy with it.
Very informative/good review. Questions:
#1: You can apparently plug in the indoor cameras to avoid having to recharge them but the outdoor ones should not be plugged in?
Fantastic review! You addressed all the important points that one would need.
Thank you for the review. I just bought the Arlo Pro because it was cheaper. I hope it works okay as 1)a nanny cam inside and 2)front yard camera outside. I also hope I don't regret not getting the Pro 2.
You are a great reviewer. You covered all the things I had questions about and more. Thanks!
Very, very, very concise and informative review with good pace.
Nice production quality and voice over. Arlo cameras are also very good
Nice review and way to highlight the differences between the Arlo Pro and Pro 2.
Thank you for a very concise review. I'm looking to get an Arlo system and this review and comparison gave me some great info on both models.
You are really good at giving review.....bravo
Nice review....Very professional and clear. Definitely helped helped me in making my Arlo decision. Thanks!!
I thought the expiation was excellent and gave the Pros and the Cons! Very well done and easy to understand! Thank you! Carol B
I believe the reason look-back or region selection require external power is because those feature require the camera to always be on and recording internally. It's battery operation uses a separate low-power passive infrared sensor that detects movement, and that triggers the camera and WiFi to start up only when movement is detected, thus saving battery life.
I just wish there were external battery mounts. You know, like those iPhone cases that charge the phone?
Great Video dude. Helpful information. I just got my set today.
Very good, thorough review. I'll look to this reviewer again.
An incredible, in-depth review - thank you!
Thats not very good Im worried about the battery life camera would be on busy car park so might be a problem thanks for your post
I bet you could use RTV to seal around the wire/plug.
saw a bunch of reviews, best one my man good job thumbs up
Great presentation on this product. I’m going to purchase the pro II after watching this. Thanks for the great video..
Wow, you did a better job than Arlo! Great review!!!

I have one HD analog camera I want to view on tcl roku smart tv with no app so I don’t really want to record still have to get DVR?
The reason Look-Back and Zones require the device to be plugged in is because it needs to be running the video camera all of the time. (Look-Back likely buffers a few seconds of video so that it can be recovered later). This would likely drain the battery in a matter of hours. When not plugged in, the camera is rarely open. Motion is detected only by the motion sensor (and even that can be off if you are at home).
you did a great job explaining the cameras
TOP NOTCH review video! Professionally done.
Your review was very helpful. Thankyou very much I've been looking for a security system & you really explained this system well. I was looking for a non monthly system & this has different options. I guess that's why the price point is a bit higher than other similar security system. Thankyou:0)

Thank you so much for your videos and answering this question! Jim
Your reviews are awesome, thanks!
Thanks for the video. I was able to get my TV to show all my camera’s. Have a little hiccup with one camera going in and out. Thanks for the video!
You always have really helpful - ie informative reviews. It’s nice to get actual information rather then a review that reads a company’s summary.

Excellent review! Getting this ASAP.
Good review. Covered everything i wanted to know about the cameras.
Man, you are a pro reviewing stuff
I'm sold. Will try to buy these soon!

Excellent video, good review, tells me all I need to know, covers all the questions I would have. Thanks.
Great review! Clear and informative.
Fantastic overview. Much appreciated!
One issue that wasn't addressed that peaks my interest was distance/range capacity from the base & wi-fi to the cameras location.
Excellent review. Much thanks for making it . Sending hugs
