Oh,I was young then enthralled watching Ms.Gloria Diaz and and walk trimphanly around on stage and speaking sofly .
Later on her breakfast in bed as Ms. Universe I realized the photos were not good and even today the make - up of that time were not as advance as today as it harden the looks of participants with what looks like today as nothing more black eye pencil liners and stiff eye lashes.
Today she looks much better as she is growing old gracefully.
Gloria Diaz was our icon then and now

I'm a Cebuana, but had been living here in the US for 50 years. Her comment is nothing to get upset about. It's true, use an interpreter. That's what other countries do especially from Latin countries and even Europe. Most contestants including the Philippines speaks english. But some prefers to use interpreters because of the accents. They talk in their own language to the interpreter and of course the interpreter say it in English and they sound good and could be understood quite well by the audience and especially by the judges. Nothing to get upset. We all just have to be open minded. And I'm sure Gloria Diaz did not mean any harm,

Miss Universe is a beauty competition for women. The word 'MISS' explains it all. Not MRS., NOT MR. , NOT THEY, and NOT THEM. Ms. Gloria Diaz was only probably suggesting that because the people concern have their own pronoun addresses, they should have their own beauty competition, they shouldn't invade a strictly for women beauty pargents. This is very rude and disrespectful to all women in general.

Then the woman with children is no longer categorized as being Miss Universe when purity is comcerned.

I cannot understand how Cebuanos could have easily misinterpreted what Gloria said. In a nutshell she means:"Keep it real!" A candidate must be able to express her thoughts clearly, hence, she must speak in the language or dialect she's most comfortable in. As for the inclusion of transgenders in presitigious pageants like Miss Universe, again she's right when she said they must have a separate pageant of their own. Simple logic!

Also, transgender and married women should have their own pageants as they have their own classifications and differences. It's just common sense to have them separated.

Ms. Gloria Diaz' entry and winning the Miss Universe in 1969 was indeed the most memorable of all the pageant's events: 1) She was 18 years old then coinciding the 18th holding of the Miss Universe pageant, 2) Her name reverberated in the universe when one of the astronauts, while still in space, inquired who won the contest, and Houston answered "Gloria Diaz of the Philippines is the new Miss Universe", and 3) Her name Gloria Diaz (Glory Day in English) also was a fitting name to coincide the actual landing of the Astronauts Armstrong & Aldrin on the moon which was of course a glory day for what Neil Armstrong said "That's one small step for 'a' man, one giant leap for mankind."

For us Mindanaoans, it's easy to communicate in English because there were many foreign missionaries. I agree with Ms. Diaz... If other participants from other countries like Japan, China and even from South America can have the benefit of translators why not Filipinas who has various dialects, 87?

*Despite thinking so highly of yourself and proclaiming it to the world, your comment actually reveals how uneducated, regionalist, and utterly lacking in social, cultural, and linguistic awareness you are. Your generalization of Cebuanos is taken from how many samples of people? It is a sweeping and most uneducated, ill-informed generalization, just like your generalization and unnecessary elevation of your being a Mindanaoan who can speak good English (your written English is poor at best, laughable at worst). And you call the myriad tongues of the Philippines "dialects"? I mean, we're in the 2020s, not the the 1900s. They are languages, for your information. You must do a thorough self-assessment and evaluation, and come down from your crumbling tower. It is better to be humble and most gracious, than to be excessively arrogant when in fact you are a clown and a buffoon.*

I was in Grade 4 when Gloria Diaz won Miss Universe, I remember we had lots of rain in the Philippines and we were watching a noontime first via satellite coverage of Neil Armstrong landing on the moon on TV, it was in Black and White ,when the news broke about the Philippines winning it's first Miss Universe crown. This was after Gemma Cruz won the Miss International crown in 1964. Good Earth Emporium made a Calendar with Gloria Diaz wearing her Miss Universe crown. The following day Gloria Diaz made a statement that “Tagalog is the language for the Atsay”and the majority thought she was referring to herself as they said she look like an Atsay. Anyway, Gloria Diaz started the “ Amourous “ relationship of the Filipinos with the Miss Universe Beauty pageant and the craziness is even stronger today. Gloria, headlined her movie with the popular actor Vic Vargas and Da King Fernando Poe,Jr. later on.

If there's a changes make sure it's for the best not to make it worse 😠 just like a recent pageant it's so boring there's NO excitement. Imagine ALL girls hosting and judge. There's no problem with that it's just there's a difference if a Male do the hosting and choosing a winner through Man's point of view. There is excitement, humor, tension and a power announcing the winner. Just like Bob Parker, Steve Harvey and others. And it's been a traditions.

Gloria diaz is right. Miss U is a prestigious contest for "Miss" single women only with good reputation, beauty & brain. Those trans, single parents, divorced & whatever should have a different contest for each classification where they belong.

I agree 101% of what she said . Why called miss universe single woman ( not married woman or transgender ) because the new ceo of MU is transgender , yes has the right to do to his /her business . However , it feels like the essence is the beauty pageant is gone . I can see the downfall of it in the future . Don’t get me wrong ,transgenders or married women has all the rights to join any Beauty pageants in their respective categories . That’s my personal opinion . Just FYI 😂

So, a MU CEO must be a real woman.

You can be anybody to run a business , a man , woman or transgender , etc . Being a CEO of a company does not prejudice your sexuality . Just FYI

You are showing the wrong film. The film your showing in this video is by Ruffa Guitierrez (Miss World 1993 1st runner up), a remake of the film with the same title released in 1996. Gloria Diaz' version of 'Ang Pinakamagandang Hayop sa Balat ng Lupa' was released in 1974.

There should be a contest for everyone.
Flattenning the difference is not fair.
Married women should compete among themselves, so also single moms and transgenders.
The idea that they could compete together is a marketing strategy that miseses the target.
    That's the problem.
A free for all wont work. It wont expand the market for pageants nor improve its quality. It's an exercise in futility.
If gender or sexuality is not an issue, why not age and looks?
Or, to make sense, impose a quota, and don't forget the oldies, obese, short, and those on wheelchairs.

First, let us clarify the meaning of Miss, my understanding is this in in reference to a single woman born with XX. chromosomes. There is nothing wrong expressing an opinion in one's native language;in fact,
being able to speak another language is an asset, and and a show case the uniqueness of a person, and the culture of where she is from. We should be proud of being Filipinos!!

She's just stating the fact. What should they'll be angry about? Criticisms with good points must be accepted if it is true. Super sensitivity will not make you progress.
