I've used Mesh Trails for almost a year now and Dillon is really under selling how good this add-on is. It's easy to use, flexible, has a lot of quality of life features, and is stable. I can't recommend it enough! The way I have added it to an object is duplicate and separate the edges of the object I want to add the trails to. Then convert the mesh to a curve, and add the trail to that. And because it's duplicated it's inherited all the modifiers, armatures, etc. of the parent object.
Hi do you have any idea how we can change the design of the trail to something like the lighting or fire trail shown in the trailer vid for this mesh add on?
There I was. In an alleyway. Starved from not being able to get trails in my blender scene. And then… Dillon goo walked in and then gave me a discount code

Things like these should literally be standard in animation softwares. This really shows how much improvement the current softwares need. This addon is really quite useful. I will buy the hobby version for sure :)
Holy crap, this is actually really cool Personally i have characters that focus on speed alot and while i still have far from even finished learning to model, and start learning animation in blender, That one wind function will save my LIFE. thank you so much
You can get a head start on things by duplicating the edge of the object you want to trail and converting it to curve. I’m getting ready to use this again and watched the video to refresh. I have another trail addon but for reasons I can’t remember the goo one is more reliable. Its more realized in general. The other one does have a wiggle bone type of time offset, which is handy
Thanks Goo, this is what I’ve been looking for to get the right emphasis for a Lightsword I’ve been modeling. Watching those Blender presentations and what you displayed was Magnificent and inspiring from where you started and how you evolved. I wish your team the best of luck going forward Dillon 👍🏻
The fact that my name is also Dillon throws me off all the time when he starts talking to himself like "stop tweaking it, dillon, stop tweaking it" sounded very personal
I'm very disappointed that I didn't know about this until now, and I'm grateful that such a groundbreaking add-on is available at such a low price. Damn, I should have been born an American!
Hey! I've been playing around with MT in a scene with a car, but I'm having a lot of trouble controlling the length of the trail. I've got the car moving through the scene (quite fast), and the trails end up way too long to fit into frame or look good. Is there a way to say "hey, make a trail only this long"? I've found that baking it shortens it a bit, but I'd have to crank up subframes by quite a lot to get it to actually be in frame. I should also mention as well, that the length is at 1 and they're still too long. Not to mention that having a higher length seems to give the curve a bit more "wiggle" to play with it seems like, so keeping it at 1 seems to just make things look worse. Like I love the addon and use it all the time, but if I can't get it to work in this scene I'll just have to try something else.
24:06 Something I find interesting about this animation is how you kinda made the body language more feminine. Impressive attention to detail, In my opinion.🙃
Am I the only one who is new to blender watched this and basically went. What is this black magic and how can I learn it. This applies to literally everything like even just basic animations and everything in between. My experience to blender is literally a singular school project and that’s all.
Have you done a video on your avatar yet? Idk if it's the mocap equipment or the rigging, but the movement was amazingly fluid. I want to know how you got it to be as responsive as you did
Thanks!! It's using VSeeFace and an iPhone for mocap like most everyone else :D the fluidity is in the blend shapes and mocap settings. I hope to make a video about it some day in the future.
Hey...Can we take it into Unity? I am guessing the Mesh trail shading doesn't get carried into Unity. If you could reply, it would be huge. Excellent Addon, just purchased.
Does this work on other things other than swords. For example, a traveling ball that curves? Like if a soccer player kicked a ball and it curves into the goal? Could mesh curves be used to show this path?
I've been playing with the settings for a while trying to figure this out, figured i'd ask if anybody knows why the trails always draw behind my model? I don't have the model set to show infront or anything...? any advice is appreciated

Probably my favorite tool we've made. Get Mesh Trails here! meshtrails.com or blendermarket.com/products/meshtrails
Where do I use the "discount code" to buy "Mesh Trails Professional"?
.......
thanku so much

Thank you so much for making this affordable for hobbyists
The Trail animations look so smooth too.

I’ve got a pretty long “character with sword” animation that really needs this. 😎🤓
Thanks for the work y’all do!
This rlly brought me back to the twitchstream days where streams were frequent, yall are doin some rlly cool stuff!

Thanks professor.
Looks amazingg!
Question, is there documentation or a video on how to make the other type of effects shown in the thumbnail? Like the lighting and fire effects?

Next we need impact frames addon 😂🔥
Alternatively, the free geo node setup by Cartesian caramel generates trails as well

I'm just amazed by that avatar! Is that a like vtubers or is it animated? It's very good!
How do you enable live preview in blender? I cant move my curve while timeline is playing.
Does the professional version of the mesh trails have everything that the 56.00 one has? ( Please reply )

how do you change the material of the mesh trail
If I get his course would I be able to use the abi rig on instagram products? Of course not earning money on insta just for show and stuff

hello! I recently discovered your channel and I love ur tutorials! Thank u for these and also u have a really fantastic vtuber model
can this not bake the complete path to a mesh? I was hoping for a solution for creating vfx meshes for export to game engines.

is there a mesh trail plug in for maya?
Is this compatible with the current blender version?
Can the meshes generated with this addon be used in game engines?
how did you animate the character on the side of the screen?
He used a face tracking app called Vseeface, combined with his model
@@Nomimesh Oh, thanks 😀
I was just hoping to find a tutorial on how to make trails. Dang

apparently I had to have it in the same folder as the object. Makes my linework more complicated but its worth it
Do you have trial version?
Is this compatible to Blender Game Engine?
Do i need goo engine for this?
This looks awesome man. Thx very much. Does it work in unity and other game engines as well?
It only works in Blender in realtime, but it can be exported as alembic!
Can we use this for VFX??
Will this work in cycles ?
*cries in rx 580
blender 3.0+ doesn't support amd polaris gpus :c i'm using 2.93
just to clarify something: does the trail still work if the sword is parented (via ctrl p) to something? because parenting like that makes it so its transform in the object tab doesn't change. there's also parenting via "child of" constraint
Yes it uses world space calculations regardless of it's parenting method :)
@@professorGoo thanks for the clarification! should probably upgrade my gpu soon so i can use the speed feature xd
is there a similar tool for maya?...if it than some one tell me....plz
can you use this in upbge game ?
it seems like the discount code expired...
buddy. you really need to explain us more details... i trying to put trails in weapon which is control by rigs. and its simply not moving at all.
Feel free to DM me on Twitter or email me at support@dillongoostudios.com and I'll try to help!
Have the bezier Curve parented to a bone. I have a root bone on my sword at the handle that attaches to the hand. Mine works fine that way.
there is tuto to make it procedurally on yt it's not that hard if you know a lil bit of geeo node
It’s good but 56 POUNDS? nah I’m good
How you make this green hair virtual character??
If you make atleast short video on it ,it will help a lot.
I'll try to make a tutorial about it some day, as well! It mostly uses VSeeFace and an iPhone
