South Africa made a strong effort against one of Europe's powerhouse lineups. Though the score looks like a landslide the difference truly came down to a single half inning that included a grand slam. In the bottom of the 4th, down by a run, Spain put up 5 runs, four off that grand slam from C Blake Ochoa.
Oscar Angulo singled up the right side to start off Spain's offensive half of the inning. Jesus Ustariz reached on a single to left but was caught heading to second when Lesther Galvan singled down the left field line. That put a man on 1st as Angulo tied things up.
Jesus Martinez singled to left and Yancarlo Franco walked aboard to load them up before Ochoa stepped to the plate. His shot, deep and just left of center, put the Spaniards up by 4.
On the hill for Spain Riccardo Hernandez put in 8.0 innings of work giving up 5 hits and an unearned run, while striking out five and walking two with 67% of his pitches landing in the zone.
South Africa's cleanup man, Brandon Bouillon, went .500 on the day scoring the team's only run off two hits over 4 at bats. Once aboard, he remained a threat, stealing two on the day.
Off Spain's bench Blake Ochoa had the grand slam from the 8-spot, driving in 4 with two hits and a run on the day but it was Lesther Galvan, hitting in the 5-spot that had himself a day at the plate. The LF had two runs off two hits, including a homerun, and two RBIs over 4 at bats.
