You almost lost me when you called us “your dudes” but I’m glad I stayed. I’m a Missouri home baker who’s Great Grandparents were Swedish. My baking is mostly focused on authentic Christmas cookies/treats from Germany and other European countries. I’m so glad you got to spend such quality time with your Grandmother. Thank you for sharing her recipes/technique. I will certainly check out your channel.
You’re cookie cutters are adorable, as are you. I have a big collection also. My kids and grandkids love pepparkakor! It’s important to pass this down to them to remember their paternal heritage. They will make sure that my cookies don’t last for months!
Maple syrup would be good but might be too watery. Just pay attention to the amount of flour you’re putting in. Honey would also be a good substitute 😊
Try half dark corn syrup and half regular corn syrup minus 10 percent weight of both syrups and juice or water or Earl grey tea. Back in 82, working for Germans and Swiss, we used a commercial glucose 42 DE. 🎉❤
My husband's and son's favorite!!! I have yet to master these, will try your method & recipe although I will add a few more spices that are from my husband's grandmother's recipe. Can't wait to give them a try.
This is how my mom made them, and her mother. My mor mor was from Lycksele. However, theirs were definitely “clovey”. I cheat and roll it into a tube and wrap it in plastic, then when its cold I get my sharpest knife and slice them as thin as I can. Mom always rolled them out like you, but always a glass, never cookie cutters. Never festive at our house. 😆
The modern way with a dough like this, is to pour it onto a huge sheet of cling film/plastic wrap and roll it into a sausage and cut pieces of the dough sausage. Because this type of dough bends cheap spoons.
The sausage way is smart! I just released a video for a more modern pepparkakor recipe that is definitely easier than this one. This one is very old fashioned.
@@ceciliatolone I always look at the modern recipes and wonder about the texture because you're not melting the sugar etc. But I left Sweden over 20 years ago...
I don’t know if this was just my family, but we would place a pepparkaka in one hand and rap on it with a knuckle from the other hand. The goal was to get it to split into 3 and only 3 pieces. If you failed, help yourself to another one and try again. If you won, well, have another and try to win again. 😉 Like many Swedish cookies these aren’t too sweet, so having a bunch with a coffee won’t send you into a diabetic coma. Um, unless you’re diabetic, then don’t try that.
This channel is so underrated
Thank you!!
Really enjoyed watching this. Thank you from Alberta,Canada. I will be making 100's of them for the Farmers market in 2 weeks.❤
Thank you Cecilia. I love grandma’s cookies

Thank you!, beautiful explanation and truly interesting recipes are in you Chanel. Greetings from México 🇲🇽
Orange and cloves!!! Yum! Thanks for this recipe. I may try this with maple syrup- don’t have any golden syrup.

Bitter Seville oranges.

Yep! My mom had a glass cutting board too.
So crazy! I haven’t seen one since I was a kid.

Thanks a lot
You’re welcome!

These are super clovey. Love this “cheat” though! I need to remember that!
Just ate an entire packet of the dough 😈🔥

Did anyone catch at what temperature they have to be cooked?

What can we replace golden syrup? Can we use maple syrup?
Would you mind we ask what's the shelf life or how to maintain the freshness, please?
She talked through that around 14:40 (quick answer: months)
Thank you for this recipe. I love these cookies at Ikea (Canada) but the ingredients they use are nasty.
du kan inte jämföra detta med amerikansk pepparkaka
Vad menar du?
Yep! It is all true! Grand ma did it that way! Thank you dear! The problem now is to find a woman that even cook!
