Thanks for explaining what that small gasket/seal was for! I did not see it in the Delta instructions! (They did say to use a caulk for sealing, but did not say what the small gasket was for...)
Thank you for putting up this video. At 1:31, she says to discard the thin gasket, because we'll use silicone. *PLEASE* add this to the instructions!!! The 25748LF-SPPD instructions say to remove the "washer" along with other parts, but it is never pictured, and it never mentions it again or tells what to do with it. I was trying to figure out how to do the silicone seal and still use the included thin gasket/washer, too.
Amen, brother. I just spent two hours trying to figure out what to do with it. Why don't the folks who write instructions either try to install something themselves first, or pay someone like me, an imbecile, and watch while he struggles and make note of the hangups?
Same here!
Me three! My drain is leaking, and I suspect it's due to the rubber washer.
Same here! This is so frustrating.
I know others already stated thia, but, thanks for explaining what to do with the thin washer.
The only other discrepancy is that the directions say to use silicon grease on the threads. Other videos (lack mentioning the thin washer) say that the grease is necessary to help seal because there is not enough of a water tight seal between the rubber and the pipe. So, water from the overflow area can sneak down below.
Not sure if I have a Delta drain or not, but simply pulling up on it did the trick for cleaning. Thank you.
My instructions say to use silicone GREASE on the inside of the cone shaped gasket.
Love it! Very durable and well made
If you use the caulk like she suggested make sure it is 100% silicone and clear would be a good way to go. I did not use the silicone that flimsy little thing that she said to discard worked just fine on my sync your mileage may vary. Make sure the rubber gasket that is thick. Make sure it’s going the right direction when you put that on the skinny side goes up.
Thanks...very helpful
Great tutorial. Thank you!!!!
In typical ceramic Vessel Sink there is annular space between drain pipe outer wall and the ceramic sink bottom opening. If sink has Overflow, even with overflow type drain pipe openings, water can remain standing around the lower pipe threads below pipe drain opening, and so can corrode/destroy the metal pipe. How can I waterproof the metal Drain pipe threaded area so trapped, standing water does not destroy the metal drain pipe?
I have a faucet with a drain stop plunger on it, can I install this push style drain and remove that plunger? Or do I need to replace the faucet? Please and thanks!
Confusing to know the drain size hole in the sink. Tough to measure with an existing drain already in place. Mine is a cultured marble vanity top, and the Lowes PO on vanity doesn’t specify the hole size. My new not yet installed Delta Nicoli comes with a push pop. I ordered a second Delta push pop for another sink, same type. Will they fit? Who knows? Mfg of the vanity sink combo no help. Must be a better way,
Hannah in the video says to clean this just pull up on the stopper. That does not work. Any suggestions
This video shows black plastic drain pipe material and pull-out Stopper. What Delta part number is this? I cannot find in any retail source.
I'm finding that a small amount of water (~ a teaspoon) collects and sits around the open popup drain where it meets the sink. Is this a design flaw?
I just purchased a faucet. And I'm warning if you can do the drain assembly first and then the faucet or does it matter
Nice that the threads stops before you can tighten it. Why on Earth not continue the threads all the way up so it fits with all sinks. I've tightened it all the way and it's just dangling loose😡
I just love it when the instructional video supposedly for the product I purchased does not match what I purchased. I purchased the Delta 33W576 which has different components. How about having an actual instruction manual? Too easy?
I got a vanity with a marble top and a bowl. After I hand tightened it, water began to leak from where the bowl met the marble. Not sure if I didn’t wait long enough or if the marble has a round shape that is not circular. I’m going to try Teflon tape on the seals.
Yes, I had the same problem where the bowl hole is not perfectly circular and so the Delta rubber cone that is supposed to seal the drain (it assumes the hole is round) did not seat into the bowl hole enough, so it leaked -- a lot. Solution was plumbers putty (as shown by this old house). Form a "rope" of putty between hands to go around and above the rubber cone, then can put on the cone and the big nut to tighten it all up against the bowl. Excess putty fills in the out of round part of the bowl = no leak.
@@jngarr Thanks J. Plumbers putty did the trick for me. I was hesitant to go the silicone route so...
Thanks again. 🍻
The drain plug diesnt push all the way down so it doesn't stop up the drain. How do i fix this?? @deltafaucets
Any tips on how to make the stopper pop back up after you push it down. I just installed this and it gets stuck every time. You have to pull it up after you push it down to drain the sink. Is there a adjustment?
I’m fairly certain there’s an O-ring inside the drain body that shims it up enough so you can push it down far enough to disengage. Found a shredded up oring on the floor after install that matches the I.D. of the drain body and I’m having the same issue.
would be nice if you would have given the size of the drain pipe since it is not the standard 1 1/2, you will need to purchase a separate pipe to fit to size.
You can buy 11/4 to 11/2 adapter washer for less than 2 bucks
The standard for bathroom drain is 1 1/4", standard for kitchen drains is 1 1/2"
Hi Wise4Life 33
We are happy to help you.
Is this sink leaking around the bowl, or the pop-up?
Best Regards!
Frank
This is different from the instructions that came with the faucet that i just installed and it leaks like crazy. Instructions tell you to silicone the bottom gasket. The problem im having is that the water is coming from the threads. Ive true everything to stop it. Theres something wrong with this design. Ive never had a drain leak in this way
When I installed mine with rubber gasket above, it holds water in sink like a dam. I never get all the water out automatically. Also, my sink has overflow, so does it matter which way the lower side holes face? I noticed she removes it and uses silicone. This would probably allow the ring to get lower.
I think you're having the same problem as me. I tried to install this drain this weekend and the part that sits in the sink is too thick and isn't flush so water collects around the sides and doesn't drain properly.
Yep, I'm having the same issue. I think it's just a design flaw. I'm going to try creating a smooth bead of white silicon around it so that the water will go down.
Add me to the club.
There is always a ring of water around the drain.
Looks like I'll be looking for a different drain assembly.
Love the faucet though, lol.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue? I've tried using a different brand and same thing. Is this just the (very poor) norm for all push down drains, or is there a brand/style that actually works correctly?
Save your silicone and use putty. It won't fail. Doesn't dry. Isn't permanent. Then can be repaired or reused later

Hi polocash11!
We are happy to help you. Could you please provide us with some pictures of the installation so that we can see what your concern might be?
-Frank
@@deltafaucet You can't see in picture, but the metal ring does not get flush to sink. The gasket has it sticking up about 1/8" and this holds water in sink.
Hi polocash11!
We are sorry that is happening. Which gasket are you using that is causing the concern?
Best Regards!
Frank
@@deltafaucet All original. I am wondering if putty would be better.
I hope this works! I’ve been trying a million combinations and it just isn’t working. The directions are definitely not great for this one.
No plumber’s putty?
I'm guessing you could use it instead of the silicone sealant if you wanted?
Which push pop drain is this?
Thank you for your question. This is model 72173-SS (Stainless Steel). -Edward

Do didn't bother showing how to connect the drain pipe to the pipes that enter the wall... one would think this is common sense right? That they just screw together? They don't... the drain pipe has no ridges to attach to anything... it's smooth
