They talked about how the online game they used to play was club penguin/animal jam but with plagiarized Garfields, and that the Jotaro dude was actually named Qhotaro Yuyoi, and the fucking bird was named Pio. They even sent me old screenshots and translated dialogue for my entertainment. Basically the dialogue from these screenshots of them interacting with the characters went something like this: Qhotaro: "Bah, I don't care, I'm Qhotaro Yuyoi, you may know me from this hairstyle" Qhotaro: "I'm someone, let's say, extraordinary. I'm searching for my archenemy, Pio" Pio: "Here, this is the symbol that you're a loyal follower." I shit you not when they first sent me all of this out of nowhere, I said "what the fuck is that thing" out loud. Seeing this video in my recommended was a psychic attack that was so powerful it's affecting me physically.
This was a fascinating and enlightening look into Gaturro. As someone who lives in northern europe, I had no idea who that ugly yellow fuck of a cat was before this!

Funny enough, sonic has been treated a lot better than Gaturro. For example, when one of the arms of the sonic statue broke people help to glue it back in instead of stealing it.
I used to see Gaturro merch all the time here in Brazil, mainly school supplies like notebooks and such. Never seen any of the comics so I wondered where that character even came from. I would have never guessed that was just the tip of the iceberg and that there was so much controversy over this ugly looking Garfield knockoff :P
As someone who's outside of the culture, and only know Gaturro from the statue situation. I have to give Nik props. People hates his "work" but he doesn't care, or that motivated him more. Funny enough, sonic has been treated a lot better than Gaturro. For example, when one of the arms of the sonic statue broke people help to glue it back in instead of stealing it.
I used to see Gaturro merch all the time here in Brazil, mainly school supplies like notebooks and such. Never seen any of the comics so I wondered where that character even came from.
I would have never guessed that was just the tip of the iceberg and that there was so much controversy over this ugly looking Garfield knockoff :P
As someone who's outside of the culture, and only know Gaturro from the statue situation.
I have to give Nik props. People hates his "work" but he doesn't care, or that motivated him more.
