      Hi, Dan! I started paddling canoes on the Blackwater back in the mid-70’s. It’s a different river now than it was then, but still never ceases to awe me with its’ beauty and tranquility. Stay safe!

    Great video Clayne!
    Looks like a good place to put in the water, minus the trees in the water. Never been over that way, but grew up in South Alabama near Kinston/Ino!👍🏻 Look forward to your next video. Subscribed ✔️

      We don’t do the Blackwater as often as we used to, but I’ve never failed to enjoy it when we get down there! Stay safe!

      Hi, and thanks for watching! You should have a good trip and a lot of fun, here. The Blackwater is low, right now, but it’s always a small and fairly shallow river, anyway. Look for the small holes near cover where you can’t see the bottom, and you should find fish stacked up in there. Good luck, and Stay Safe!

    Thanks for the video I've watched it a few times taking some notes lol. I'm hoping to get over there in the future and do a night or two on the blackwater river.

      Hey, Travis! I've never caught just a ton of fish there, but I've never failed to enjoy the Blackwater. It's pretty, peaceful, and a thoroughly great place for an overnight...you've usually got your pick of sandbars on almost every bend! Stay Safe!

    I startled an large alligator in the Pea River a few weeks ago. My boat is 17 feet and the gator was well over half the length of my canoe. Its a graphite racing canoe and I was paddling upstream and I think I may have startled the alligator. The experience has pretty much ended my lower alabama /Florida river paddling future, but watching this and reading your comment below, I may give this river a shot.

      Hi, John, thanks for watching! I've seen a couple on the Pea River, but only 4 or 5 footers. I've seen sign of much larger ones, though! I'm also fairly certain I saw a good sized python on the Pea, once. I scanned over it and when it registered what I'd seen I looked back real quick, but it was already gone...maybe 6-7 feet? In over 45 years of paddling the Blackwater River, I've seen one gator there, about 7 or 8 feet...he was hanging around the carcass of a drowned hog from a recent flood, that's been almost 40 years ago, and haven't seen one there, since. I'll also say this...gators are generally fairly shy, and tend to come close enough to satisfy their curiosity, then move away. Be vigilant and smart, but you don't have to be afraid of them, with springtime being somewhat of an exception...the big ones lean towards cranky during their mating season. Stay Safe!

    On the other side of the road from where you are parked, is a much better place to launch from.

    Are there any alligators in that river?

    • @DEADorALIVEkayaking
      @DEADorALIVEkayaking  Год назад +1

      Hi, and thanks for watching! Yes, there are….sightings aren’t super common, but around here pretty much any body of water has the potential to hold gators. The only one I’ve ever seen on the Blackwater was a 7 footer about 30 years ago, and he bolted as soon as he saw me. Stay Safe!

      @@DEADorALIVEkayaking I'll be moving there from Middle Tennessee soon. I guess I won't be using my belly boat there ☹️

    • @DEADorALIVEkayaking
      @DEADorALIVEkayaking  Год назад +1

      @@Fishing4Reel I don’t know that I’d rule it out straight out of hand…people float the Blackwater all the time on inner tubes, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards. Alligators are intimidating animals, but usually prefer to keep their distance from people. That said, if you take the family dog along, that’s a different story. Dogs very much fit a gator’s definition of food! Just be aware that pretty much any water down here could have alligators in it, even backyard ponds and swimming pools, but attacks are very rare. Stay Safe!
