I remember borrowing this dvd from my friend in highschool and while all of it was great, this performance in particular blew my mind. 15 years later, I still find my heavily influenced from this one performance.

in the minute 4:05 in the solo of michel camilo almost gives me something, these people are extraordinary, I am 16 years old and I think really amazing the way of playing of these gods of music, Latin jazz gods
The pianist is Dominican, the drummer is Cuban, and the bassist is Black. They all reside in the U.S. So there would be no point in going to Cuba, and it's really difficult to get there. But I agree this is the best trio I have ever heard.
Wonderful song performed for this talent jazz pianist Michel Camilo this is one of numbers that I love it since long years ago. This music touch my heart and soul. Thank you Lucho, greetings from Lima-Perú.
As it happens so often in musical performances, sometimes a particular performaces can never repeated. Bill Evans once commented that a jazz performance is like an art form in Japan, where the artist draws on a taught skin - a cannot be altered or modified - therefore there for always. Michel, Anthony and Horacio created this performance for eternity - never to be repeated. But we can enjoy.
I've watched this video so many times ... a big fan of Camilo and admirer of Jackson. Now, tell me who's the drummer? He is stunning as well. Amazing performance from all three.
What pair of hats is using Horacio? The small one near the ride. A pair of ZHT 10"?? Alguien sabe qué mini-hihat está usando el negro al lado del ride? ZHT de 10"?
Habré visto este video como unas cien veces y sigue asombrándome igual o más que la primera que lo ví. Practicamente imposible mejorar lo que Michel Camilo y compañía consiguieron aquel día
Ashley Chenga you are so right. Music is transmitting and expressing yourself when your plane, is not just a game. I mean, jazz music it’s free but it’s not like a joke, or something to last. Music is just A serious game
Thank you so much for the opportunity to listen to this genius like Camillo. I met him in New York last summer, he’s a great person and a great piano player, let’s go Camila!!!!!
This is the single most amazing piece I have ever witnessed. The original studio version is nice. The great Dave Weckl somewhat subdued, always top notch, but didn't particularly resonate- and I am a huge Weckl fan. Then Calle 54 comes out in theaters with an all- star roster including Tito Puente who had passed by the time the movie was released, I believe. Among all the great performances, this received a standing ovation- IN THE MOVIE THEATER!! They take Calle 54 on the road- to the Beacon theater- again standing ovation! Then Camilo plays the Blue Note- same band- same tune- same result! I got to meet Camilo and personally relay this experience after the third performance I witnessed. A true phenomenon. I have never witnessed anything comparable before or since. The game changer of the performances vs the original recording is the incredible Hernandez! Are you kidding me? This is sick!! The soundtrack is apparently out of print.
This kind of stuff is simply from a different dimesnion. They are all at the top of the game and in perfect harmony. Does anyone have the tabs for the crazy bass stuff andrew does at 5:03?
You got a point there. To me, the connection is certainly in the African rhythms rooted in Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the US of A. They all understand that unwritten afro-latin-caribbean-american beat code we all love.
6 years ago and i still come back, this is on another level

i come here once every year or two.
the smile of Mr. Camilo at the very end says it all.
this is everything.
It's unreal how big of a sound this trio accomplishes.
5:03 Anthony Jackson with the bass montuno!!!!!! Just masterfull

Leeya Shaw The incomparable Anthony Jackson. Dude is credited with inventing the 6-string bass in the mid 70s.

What can you say about Michel Camilo??! Simply scary. So much brilliance and creativity and expression - altogether stunning and frightening perfect!

Wow! By the way, had anyone ever told you that you look like Nicolas Cage from the sides of your face? Love this
You got a point there. To me, the connection is certainly in the African rhythms rooted in Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the US of A. They all understand that unwritten afro-latin-caribbean-american beat code we all love.
4:20 O_O
Seriously? Obviously you know very little about music if any at all.
