Ohhh, that night!! I was there... 2nd row, with one of the most important person in my life who blessed me with a ticket to your unforgettable concert...1st time at the Montreux Jazz Festival! I shed a tear of gratitude right after you finished the "Piano solo" part on "Yemaya"! Knowing next to nothing about Cuba, nor cubans, I'm proud to tell you this was the best concert I ever experienced! Ever since I discovered you through your album "Tocororo", and thanks to it, I made it through a tough year in 2017, I fell in love with your playing, the same way I fell in love with that strong, polarizing, yet unmistakable identity one feels when listening to Glenn Gould! I love your love of the instrument, your sense of balance within your eclecticism: from the one and only Bach, up to 20th century atonal piano techniques all the way to traditional & Latin Jazz, and American Pop Music, and the way you revolutionize the way a pianist thinks at the piano, and I keep thinking "Alfredo Rodriguez is in my opinion one of the greatest pianists of this generation next to Yuja Wang!" You are a consummate lover of culture, a memorable artist, a messenger focused on storytelling and melody and as all greats usually, you give, love, so passionately while staying so modest!
May you not be so underrated for too long in the future! Keep the fire burning and may the best of you be yet to come! From Switzerland, thank you so much for all the work you've ever done that led you to that night, Mr. Rodriguez!

@@alfredorsmusic I discovered you through your work with Pedrito Martinez, caught a live duet with you and him at the Blue Note about a year ago (was increible, btw). I'm a pianist, have spent about four years (so far) playing salsa/latin jazz with a band in Kansas City. Of the latest generation of latin jazz pianists, I am always coming back to your playing, for its sincerity, innovation, and eclecticism. When I am feeling uninspired, you are one of the artists I turn to to get that inspiration back (transcribed your take on Fur Elise a few weeks ago). Thanks for doing what you do.
Also, I see you including those karnatic rhythms the bass player is clearly familiar with. I know Giovanni did some stuff with that, gonna be nuts if you go in the same direction.
