In this video, a member of Diamond's Emergency Services Team (Lachlan) gives a true account of what it took to become trained, qualified and employed in the emergency services industry. Now currently employed with Diamond, he is enjoying the benefits of a challenging and rewarding career.
What does an Emergency Service Officer (ESO) do?
An ESO is a fully qualified emergency response and / or medical professional who works in a variety of industries including maritime, power and mining, defence, aviation, construction and other resource sectors.
The role ensures that the facility is maintained in a state of emergency response (emergency services) operational readiness and to facilitate a safe and secure environment for all staff, guests, contractors and visitors.
ESO's have expertise in industrial fire, rescue and emergency operational concepts, procedures and systems. They have exceptional communication and organisational skills. They are team players and are highly disciplined.
They usually possess Certificate II in Public Safety (Fire and Emergency Operations) or Certificate III in Public Safety (Fire Fighting / Emergency Operations) or similar.
Some of the key qualifications include: breathing apparatus, confined space entry / rescue, vertical rope rescue, advanced first aid, HAZMAT and other key fire / rescue and medical qualifications. In a majority of cases, the ESO is also qualified in security (security guard / officer / crowd controller) according to the state they are deployed.
