I had an old 870 express I made into a HD gun. I shortened the fore grip and sanded down the checkering. Then cut grooves into it to make it look like like a corncob grip. Sanded the butt stock and then stained both dark walnut. Put a Wilson Combat +2 extension on it. The barrel I cut to 18.5. Tapped and installed an oversize front bead sight. Looks old school. I really enjoyed the build.
I went with Adaptive Tactical furniture, police magnum barrel w sights, Wilson combat extension, Wilson combat side saddle and I put some clamp on fiber optic sights on my vent rib barrel with rifled choke if I want to reach out a bit further for deer or birds with a different choke. All on a wingmaster reciever that's smooth as butter.
I have a Hogue and a Magpul stock on 2 separate guns, I could go with either with a flip of a coin. Both have a pistol grip type feel to them, both 12 1/2 length of pull, Hogue is much cheaper, feels more secure to the shoulder because of the tacky material they use, I needed to add grip tape on the forward part of the Magpul stock because their material is alittle slick for my liking. But nice little build you made there.
It's quite common to cut short the forend on defensive pump guns. The benefit of having them long is that shorter people can reach them but the downside is that it covers the mag tube.
@elbuano13 And even more relevant, the shorter forend allows patrol car gun racks to lock around the middle of the gun. The forends were shortened for that reason we’ll ahead of the side saddle invention.
Nice build. The Magpul stock is top tier IMO. A great hybrid of pistol grip and traditional stock. The Magpul forends are great too but it sounded like you wanted to retain some of the wood look. I have the Magpul furniture on my 870 and my 590A1 (plus their barrel clamp and sling). My 870 was a Tactical version that came with a 6 shot tube, ghost ring, pic rail and a breeching choke (which I jokingly call a zombie basher as I don't see myself shooting off door hinges any time soon). Luckily your Express already had a milled extractor whereas mine came with a MIM version but when I had some failure to extract issues out of the box, I quickly replaced it with a Volquartsen machined extractor. Extraction problem solved. I think I have that same hi viz follower as well. Previously, I just shot it using the ghost ring but I recently updated my AR15 to a LPVO so now I have an extra Sig Romeo MSR Red Dot so maybe I'll attach it to the pic rail on my 870.
I love having the red dot, since I didn't want to drill and tap the barrel for a sight, the red dot was the only way to go. And it works great, It was just a range toy $27 on amazon but It has worked every time, very accurate and I haven't changed the battery in 3 years. If I was a mercenary and using the 870 daily in life threatening situation and with daily use and abuse... I would spend the money on a high quality optic. but right now the 870 lives under my bed stuck to a magnet 🤪. thanks for the comment and I hope you enjoy my channel
I did something very similar with mine. However, instead of trimming the forend i simply swapped it out for an older style corn cob forend And instead of sawing off the barrel I simply swapped it because I still want to use the long barrel for hunting.
Hello, I respect your work. I was interested because i got the same shotgun a month ago. Not a fan of your build for HD though : - You should be able to controle the light on/off at any moment without leaving the forend and you don't seem to be able to do that with this light. - If the saddle is very tight, wouldn't it be better to place the cartridges upward? They wouldn't fall and reloading would be faster. Your double taps are impressive!
I love pump builds. You did a nice job trimming the forend. I'm not a fan of those saddle assemblies that attach via the receiver pin holes, but if there's a model that can take it, its the 870 thanks to its machined steel receiver. Any other model I would be worried about that attachment ovaling out those holes after a few thousand recoil cycles.
No… i replaced the mag spring with a seven shot spring. Good thinking though. I did some research after i made this video and i found that the 870 express only has a 4 shot mag tube 😲 so with my two shot extension… 6 is the max. So that’s why the 7th round is such a problem. Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
shell getting hung up or not enough space? might need to trim the tube spring a bit. If its getting hung up its because some plus extensions leave a small gap on the inside when screwed on flush and it wont fit flush with the original tube. If that makes sense. Im bad at explaining. But if its one of those aluminum ones it most likely has that gap.
don’t care for magpul, went with FAB folder wit shock absorber. strike forehand stock, aim sport rail, carlson 18.5 breacher. little cheapo burris red dot at moment ( savin fer Eotech green 🍀)

Don't cut your forearm , Just put pic-rail on top and use Velcro on the side of the receiver with removable Velcro shell cards preloaded for quick change out .
There should be an alphabetical number on the barrel for example C stands for the month of April and then some secondary letter could be a single letter or a double letter for the year code. You can find online Remington code sheet

Ya I have the Houge but under hot hot weather I still get slippery. I need stippled grips

That’s an awesome job! 👏 Really like that Picatilly rail. Super cool.
Nice job

Even worse, like in my experience with Maverick 88, it puts too much pressure on the receiver when fired and squishes it
Looks sweet. Thx for the look and vid
Could the hanging 7th round be due to weak mag. spring?

well... I cut the forend 3 years ago... so theres that. and I like the side saddle setup with the pic rail that I have. thanks for the comment.
Good build… please replace the wood with plastic.
@@MRRizwan8074 Sorry, no can do. the wood stays 🤪
@makermatt you think about refinishing it dark black?
no I like the wood look@@bobg3633

Since U Have A 6rd Side Saddle, Put
Each Round Half Way In & Then Put 6 More Round's In Upside Down So That You Will Have 12rds In Ur Side Saddle...
In theory, cool idea. In practice it does not work, I've tried.
I prefer either all wood or all Magpul when it comes to furniture or Hogue. But nice build.
Cool build!! What brand is the red dot?
Feychai reflex sight … Amazon $27.00 😆. It works great.
@makermatt Awesome, thank you!
what side saddle is that?
Mossberg is better thoooo
