    In this video, DIYNate shows how after looking up other quick solutions online, he was able to get his Volvo XC90 SUV out of the parked gear position and unstick his car getting it back to normal. The issue seemed to be caused by being parked on a slight incline / hill and had been in that position for a couple days. After trying to start the car and take it out of park, he was initially unable to get the car out of park (however, the emergency brake was not on at that point). Starting over and turning the car off, he put the applied the parking brake, then started the car with the brake applied. At that point, he was able to shift the gears, and after taking the parking brake off, he was able to drive off.
    Other information shows other people having success by rocking the car backwards and forwards without the parking brake on, so that is another potential option. Finally, in the event this solution (which is a pretty basic one) does not work, there is a process for using the manual gear shift override which may be needed for more serious 'stuck' situations. Hopefully, this simple troubleshooting step will help and resolve your issue or at least let some people avoid the more complicated / technical solves or save a trip to the mechanic.
    As with many DIYNate videos, this is a problem that was experienced in day-to-day life, and the goal of sharing it on RUclips is to help other people out and provide some quick relief to day to day problems. Good luck!

      @@DIYNate I also wanted to note that while the e-brake was on, I "pumped" the brake pedal, and it actually needed it.😄 They tightened up. Then, I was able to move the shifter out of park.

      This is NOT a security feature; more like a safety feature. The vehicle detects that it's parked on an inclined surface and automatically applies the parking brake.

    Thanks Nate. Found your video, tried your solution, didn't work for me, you mentioned rocking the car, I opened passenger door, then with feet on entrance sill, hands on roof rails rocked car from side to side and this worked.

    How about a video about troubleshooting a broken ice maker, or a dryer that doesn’t heat? Would make for thrilling content and I’d let you feature my broken appliances in your videos for free! 🤩

      Hey there - thanks for the comment and hope you guys are doing well! Funny enough, ice maker repair was what started my channel off and I have done a more recent troubleshooting video on that - ruclips.net/video/c1pSW4hNgkQ/видео.html). Broken dryers are on my list - I have a couple videos recorded about clearing underneath the lint screen and opening up the back but haven’t put those out as of yet, as that was new turf for me. I will keep you in mind if I need some content - sounds like you have a couple troublemaker appliances that need some work! Thanks for watching and the comment!

    How not to fix the problem, is what this should be called.. this is an electronic issue, sometimes a mechanical issue with the brakes or transmission. This is more often than not, due to a dead or dying battery, or the little solenoid in the shifter going bad so it won't unlock.

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  Год назад

      Certainly could be a symptom of a potential problem but keep in mind, even if that is the case in some situations, vs the safety feature being engaged, most people need to get their vehicle out of a stuck position even to take it to a mechanic vs. having to call a tow truck to drive it out for them. My situation was a simple solve that got me out of a stuck shifter and the Volvo ran great from then on. I’ve been careful to use the E Brake when on hills to avoid the locking situation and that has done well for me thus far. Still - your point is valid that you may want to have it checked for battery, electrical, or mechanical issues if you experience this regularly.

      Sorry it didn't work out - hopefully, you've gotten things straightened out with it. I have heard that sometimes it cna be a sign of an electrical issue / something starting to go bad, so may want to have it checked out if the easy fix didn't work and you are still having issues. Good luck!
