- High idle is a Great feature for the Diesel trucks to have. I was curious why I couldn’t find a switch to set it in high idle. Did a little digging and found what I needed. Hope this helps.

Straight and to the point. Thank you
You’re welcome 👍

You’re welcome! Glad to help.
Thanks for your video. 👍👍
Great video
Thanks for sharing 👍
Now let’s have an explanation on why we should use high idle? Some people say your truck will go into high idle on its own if you’re idling for long enough
You don’t have to put the parking brake on to use high idle
Thanks.
Appreciate you
Glad it was helpful
Same on other style 2 🌞☕️🏆🇺🇸
Works on a 2008 6.7 stock
Is it something you have to do each time you start or is it set until you turn off
When it gets below 40 degrees, it’ll do it, itself. Otherwise you’ll have to do it manually
My truck is tuned and runs at high idle (sounds like jet) and I want to have a lower idle any suggestions??
There are a few variables. You’re truck sounds like a jet because you removed all the junk blocking the air in and exhaust out. Another variable is the year of your truck. There are a few year where the tachometer wasn’t showing the right rpm at idle. Also, you can see if you can have someone get into your ECM to adjust your idle from there. That’s a start.
@@85Gute lol thanks :0
Sounds like a school bus (same engine)
Can't get it to work on the 18 6spd
Yeah, I’m not too sure about the G56 trucks. If I’m not mistaken, you’ll need to have a tuner on the truck that is programmed to support high idle. You may check into the Alpha OBD program that allows you to change settings in your truck. That may work.
What is the function of high idle please and thank you.
High idle is to increase engine temperatures to ensure proper combustion of the diesel fuel, reducing “cylinder wash” and reducing oil being contaminated with diesel fuel which would cause accelerated engine wear.
its good for warming up your truck when its chilly out
I have a 2014 that high Idols at 1000 RPM after about 3 minutes of warm up it kicks into high idle by itself 1,000 RPM
Does a flash from
A dealer need to be done?
Tyler No, it came Stock on my 18. Found out that I don’t even need to have my E break on. It’s a nice feature. It will automatically go into high idle at 1k rpms at temps below 32 degrees but that’s not much so I usually put on high idle and set it to 1200.
Zia Outdoor Adventures do you know if the 2016 Cummins 2500 have it? I can’t find any dealers that can do it.
I was under the impression that it came standard on all Cummins trucks 2015 and newer. However, trucks that are set to be delivered to the SW part of the US where cold Isn’t an issue don’t get the heater plug for the engine block and the high idle. I don’t have the exact answer for you. I’m sure google will be more help.
@@L701_TB bro it does
Will this help regen?
No, you’ll need to get on the highway and go for a long drive to Regen. I wish it did.
What’s this for?
Shows how to put a 6.7L Cummins into high idle
@@85Gute sorry I meant the high idling. Is better for the engine and def system? When idling?
@@jonathanabreu8172 it’s important to get your engine to running temps before you drive it. I usually set my truck to high idle during the winter months to let the engine warm up. Also, running the exhaust break while you have your truck in high idle will help warm up the truck a bit faster, in turn, the heater and defroster will heat up quicker and warm everything up. Also, if you’re in your truck and the truck is stationary, ie sleeping in your truck and you have it running for the heater (or a similar situation) it’s best to have high idle on so your truck can burn fuel, it’s not good for your engine to sit for long periods of time, idling. There are good videos that explain it in detail here on the RUclipss.
@@85Gute excellent information. Thanks.
@@jonathanabreu8172 Basically the reason to put it in high idle is to keep the motor warm to prevent cylinder wash. Cylinder wash happens when the fuel doesn’t burn (diesel burns from heat/compression) and the unburnt fuel washes the layer of oil off the cylinder walls and damages the engine
If course it doesn't work on my 12. Why would it. 😑
The good news is, you have a pre DEF truck so in a way, you’re winning 🤷♂️
