I faced Bonetail once as a kid and lost. 15 years later, a few days ago I finally beat him before even reaching the Shadow Queen. I went through the Pit again and reached the bottom but I actually didn’t notice the creepy ambience. I went back up. I decided to go through the pit again for the experience points and reached the bottom. As I was texting my friend, I noticed the sounds and I actually got creeped out. It legit sounds like something breathing or snoring. It makes me wonder if there’s another room below that one that no one has access to due to it being forbidden. Something much bigger and terrifying than the Shadow Queen and Bonetail. The dragons are all siblings but, what about their father or mother. They were the Queen’s pets but she didn’t create them so something gave birth to them.
jesus i mean i can't say it doesn't fit for an area that was pretty much created as a labyrinth of torture chambers for an almighty demon to trap those who defied her in, but still
I used the Pit of 100 Trials as a means of grinding to Level 99 for the Hell of it. This room... And this Ambient Track... Holds a *_VERY_* Special place in my heart.
*Floor 256* As a big Paper Mario fan, it was one of my main goals to beat the Pit of 100 trials in Thousand Year Door. I had tried many times and failed near the end every time. Now, I had collected all of the good items and badges…there was no way I could lose this time. I jumped down the pipe, and the battle was on. I fought through countless enemies. Spunias, Bristles, Wizzerds…all of them. There were times where I thought I was done for…but I prevailed. I made it to the fight at the end with Bonetail…the ambiance beforehand was chilling. Bonetail honestly scared me more…I was worried that all the hard work would be for nothing. I fought Bonetail…and I won. As Bonetail crumbled, I felt a sense of major accomplishment. I had done it…I had beaten the game.
I wondered what I would get from beating Bonetail…I looked around the chamber…I couldn’t find anything. That was until Bonetail’s body seemingly despawned…this was an older game, so I assumed it was to save space…but there was a pipe where Bonetail disappeared…a green one, like the others. “Strange…” I thought, “This is the end, right?” I assumed that it was a Survival Endless type situation…go as far as you can, y’know? I jumped down the pipe to see what was next…I still had a few good items, so what the hell? The pit still looked normal…stone walls and floor…rusty spikes on the walls…and an enemy for me to battle. I took them on and won…oddly easily. I had only lost a couple of points of health…I continued downward.
I actually think that it's _always_ playing in the overworld zone of the Underwhere alongside the normal area music, but since the music track goes silent when Jaydes is angered, that's the only time you're likely to hear it isolated
@@lovelovemiraclesunsetgirlYou may be right since I seem to remember also hearing it while talking to Dorguy the Third right before the Underchomp battle. (It wasn't even drowned out by their repetitive bite sound effect)
I don't think people would care about this track if not for the lore of the Pit of 100 Trials and the requirements to encounter this unsettling ambience. My main motivation to get through the Pit a second time was the FP rewards, but that final, empty room... it's legendary in the most spooky way.
The Wails of those that encounted Bonetail...for countless centuries these brave fools, that have left there families in search of fame and fortune only to met a horrific end...Speaks volumes of Mario's ability to end the beast once and for all
It plays faintly in the background of the Underwhere in Chapter 7. Fittingly that world is supposed to be the Mario version of hell so it makes sense that they put this sound there.
I have never once heard this in my life. After defeating Bonetail as a kid, I got my badge and noped the hell out of there. Just recently, I was plaiyng the game again on Dolphin Emulator, defeated Bonetail again, and now I'm temped to go all the way back down just to hear this. I know there's a different song that plays when you first defeat him and his body is still there, but it's not this. I'm going back after I beat the game again.
This song makes me think of the creepy underground basement my grandparents' house had. It really got to me as a kid and I would try to avoid going down there whenever I could.

The best/worst part about this ambience is the mixing. It goes all around and both increases and decreases in volume, sometimes sounding faint and other times quite loud, in one ear or the other, if not sometimes both. It really sets you on edge and really gives off the vibe that, despite Bonetail being gone, Mario and co. are being watched by... something. TTYD really knew how to set its atmosphere and it created one that not even SPM really managed - a sinister feeling of creeping, eldritch evil.
I recently replayed paper mario and did the pit of 100 trials, only to discover ocasionally, but almost fairly rare, There were staze hazzards unique to these floors. My head canon is Bone tail knows your comming and sent them. It almost scared me, I was playing did a quake hammer, and Bam this BIG rolling Boulder just apeared from the left and went right, hitting me and the enemies, like no other stage hazard in paper mario 2. And another one was a statue of Bonetail or Bonetai;s foot smashed an enemy for some reason. It was kinda creepy and unexpected.
Thanks, had to edit Mario's footsteps out of the other video (I think I did it perfectly) but now I can listen to it without footsteps or possibly imperfect editing. :D

Lorewise, I'm sure your right, Nintendo wouldn't add this creepy sound in that room for no reason, there's something more to it perhaps.
Maybe we'll see in the remake? It's a pipe dream, but it would be cool.
Creepypasta material. Imagine if the real threat of the world lied beneath the 100th floor.
The Pit of 101 Trials

This is the song that plays when Luigi catches you reading his diary.
Worse than ghost T
You-a looked!
Likely, it also plays when Mimi catches Dimentio reading hers.
